ABrunette Home ImprovementJohn Brunette came to the house to give us our estimate. He was very thorough and asked lots of questions about what we wanted for our porch. He was very professional. He got us the estimate about a week later with a very detailed plan for the new porch. He had to come back a few times with revisions to the plans as we continued to refine the plan with finishing touches. John was great throughout the process calling with updates and notifying us when there would be delays. The workers arrived every day at 7:30 am and worked very hard. They got the roof done in two days and were very careful about cleaning up my shrub bed to get all the nails and old shingles. They removed the refuse regularly. My new screened porch looks terrific and I'm very happy. I would definitely call on them again for other home upgrades.- Kathy K.

AJack Duncan Palmer BuilderIt went very well. Despite some weather delays, not in Jack’s control, he and his team designed and built our dream home. Jack and his team are very professional, courteous, detailed, and strive for customer satisfaction. We have lived in our new home for a month now and couldn’t be happier. We would highly recommend Jack Duncan Palmer builders to perform home renovations or new construction to the greater Lansing area.- Dave B.

ATeachout Builders Inc & Teachout Roofing IncI could not have been more satisfied with the quality of the work and with the service provided by the contractor, Taylor Teachout, and all his subcontractors. Everyone was not only highly skilled but pleasant to have around my home and accommodating of my schedule and the needs of my elderly mother. Everyone was also flexible and resourceful when we inevitably hit an occasional bump in the road. Taylor has an excellent eye for design and gave very helpful suggestions when I was unsure about choosing materials or colors. He brought not only competence to the job but genuine enthusiasm, a desire to please and a good nature that made the whole experience pleasant when it could have been stressful. I am looking forward to being able to do another substantial project with TBI and would recommend them without reservation.- Barbara L.

ATeachout Builders Inc & Teachout Roofing IncIt went well, to say the least. Jeff Teachout and I laugh about the fact that he is not the fastest, but I believe he is one of the best. I can trust Jeff to do what he said he is going to do. And if there is ever any problem, he will get it corrected. He is creative in solving problems, but does not cut corners to do so. Probably the biggest reason I bring TBI back tme after time is that I know I can trust them in my home at any time. If Jeff Teachout trusts his employee or sub-contracor, I know I can trust them. And by trust I mean I trust them to be moral, honest and top of the line in their craft. As I stated before, Teachout Builders, Inc. has done approximately $50,000 worth of work for me since the middle of 2007. I wouldn't have them back if was unhappy with the results.- Terry E.
-
ATeachout Builders Inc & Teachout Roofing IncEverything to like and nothing of which to complain. TBI has done work for me over the past twenty years. The list includes kitchen remodel, remodel two bathrooms, sunroom addition, covered deck, basement remodel after a flood (no power...no sump), replacement windows and a new roof. It looks like I'm done with the house. But, if I need anything else, TBI will get the business. They do good work at a fair price and I can trust any one of their employees to be in my house at any time. I wouldn't go anywhere else.- Terry E.

AAfter receiving three bids, we decided to work with Brad and Lauri of Carpentry Plus and we are so glad we did. The remodel was comprised of about 2/3 of our downstairs space including the kitchen, dining room, laundry room, 1/2 bath and the adjoining hallway, plus the flooring in our foyer and sunporch. We were extremely happy with the quality of their work, the consistent professionalism and thoughtful care and advice as we worked through a complex project. The work included removal of walls, reworking air runs, lots of wood working including matching colors, installing new cabinets and countertops, new flooring, paint, electrical, plumbing and new windows. Carpentry Plus provided many great ideas, was flexible, which was necessary as the project took place during the COVID-19 shut-down and treated our project as if it was their own home. We have already signed up for some additional projects with them and expect that Carpentry Plus to be our go-to contractor in the future.

DDisappointed for a second time with a small fence installation. The first time it was installed the boards warped in a matter of weeks. They offered to redo the fence and I opted to pay more for a higher quality wood. These things happen, so no worries up to this point. The second install appeared rush, as you can see from the pictures, the top of the boards are not level across, as if no level line was used. The middle support on the back is very slanted. The board on the front with the latch was also installed crooked. Why? All these things I was willing to overlook just to be done with it. But now, a few months later, all the staples they used to install the fence are bleeding down onto the wood and it is quite an eyesore. So it appears the wrong staples were used for the application. A quick google search taught me that for cedar fences, use stainless steel, aluminum or polymer-coated fasteners. Don’t use galvanized steel – the zinc in the fasteners may react with the acids in the cedar and create corrosion streaks. So what now? I guess I have to spend hundreds more and buy the tools and materials to do it again myself next year. Very upsetting...

AThere wasn’t one thing that we didn’t enjoy and appreciate about hiring Halm & Perkins to do a complete renovation of our East Lansing condo. Joe and Lisa and their entire team were very professional and thoughtful and went above and beyond to help us with every detail. Originally, we were anxious about being able to find people that we could trust to create a design and suggest ideas that would work best for us and the space. From the first interview meeting Joe & Lisa our fears were assuaged and we liked them immediately. They made the entire process from start to finish easy. Both Joe and Lisa even got my husband’s quirky sense of humor and ran with it, keeping us all laughing. We did not expect to have so much fun with a renovation! We appreciated how well they listened to our ideas and questions and they never let us feel that anything we thought or asked was silly or stupid, communicating often with us via text, calls or emails and directing us to websites for ideas or clarification as needed. Joe and Lisa are a great team and often when we were stuck on a decision one of them would come through with photos or thoughts that helped what the other was suggesting so that we could understand. They both did a fantastic job guiding us through the myriad of decisions that were needed, or choosing something for us when we asked them to do so. They came up with ideas we would not have thought of like bricking some of the walls and we are so pleased with how that, and other ideas we trusted them with, turned out. We asked for more storage space and they made sure we had that in every room with ways we could not have thought up ourselves. We wanted more light in the combined kitchen-living area and they exceeded our expectations in providing that in new ways. We had some dreams we weren’t sure were feasible, like making room for a two person jacuzzi tub and they made it happen, thanks to Joe’s expertise and Lisa’s design ideas. When they didn’t know the answers they had experts to consult. I often felt like we were on an episode of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” with Chip & Joanna Gaines. We now walk into our condo and have happy sighs that we get to live here. Thanks, Joe & Lisa and the whole Halm & Perkins team!

AI contacted Eddie and his company to help save a six month project that was 90% completed. I did not know Eddie, but he did get good reviews here. We kept having contractors not showing up to complete the project with several deficiencies. Eddie and his team stepped in and saved the entire project, correcting errors and demonstrating outstanding attention to detail. We asked him to help, step in and make our shower remodel functional and he did just that in just one day! His recommendations helped to save potential pitfalls down the road. We were blown away at his attention to detail and passion for his job. You want someone to give you a fresh and quality product, contact Eddie. His responsiveness was second to none as well. We could have had this entire project done in one week, if we had hired him from the start! (Face Palm)

APalmer has worked all over our neighborhood and provided examples of their work .. neighbors were pleased to discuss and were uniformly enthusiastic. So we hired them. On time, in budget. Foreman checked in often on the job. Tradesmen were able, friendly, informative, and cleaned up the site when they left (except for sawdust that was under the snow!) I'm already getting myself on their schedule for more work.
