  • We used this kennel last year for the first time and liked it. So we went back again this year and boarded our dog there for another 9 nights stay. Upon picking him up we immediately smelled urine on him, very strongly. About 10 minutes into the ride home we found two sores on his lips both 1/2 inch in diameter., he also just wanted to sleep. Wasn't his normal excited self. Usually we can't keep him from licking us, even if we're just returning from the neighbors house. He's usually a very affectionate dog. His bed was also covered in urine. He is very well house trained and never urinates on his bedding. I called Samarkand and they were totally unaware of the sores on his lips and how they might have gotten there and had no idea that he smelled as bad as he did or that his bed had been urinated on. They told me that if he had urinated on it they would have washed it, since they do this when ever they have "dirty" bedding. His bedding took two washing in my wash machine to get it clean. It's been 4 days now since we picked up our dog and he still doesn't seem like the same dog we dropped off. He's clearly lost weight and isn't eating much, sleeps way more then what he did prior to going to the kennel and has a funny cough (wondering if he has Kennel cough???). I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow if I don't see any signs of him improving. This was nothing like our first experience with Samarkand Kennels and we will never be taking him or any other pet back to them. Nor will we be recommending them to anyone.

  • They're very good but I don't think they're outstanding. They are very personable and down to earth. They are also compassionate and take good care of the animals. They have walk in hours during the week in the mornings and afternoons. The costs are good and reasonable. They're relatively close by.

  • The daycare and boarding are amazing! They truly care about providing appropriate activities, fun, and safe play environment for my puppy while we are away at school, work, vacation. They group the dogs according to age, size, and temperament to make your dog feel most comfortable and safe. They went above and beyond to orient my puppy for her first visit to Nana's, therefore she just loves to go and play! We left her there for 10 nights while we were away on spring break and I felt very comfortable that she was being well cared for and loved! I will never take her anywhere else but Nana's!

  • Dr. Edie is a knowledgeable and thoughtful veterinarian . My dog was in pain when we came in, but had no problem with the visit because of her kind and gentle care. She examined my dog, prescribed medication which she dispensed, gave me at-home instructions plus signs to watch for, plus did his heartworm check which was due in a few weeks - thereby saving me the cost of another visit.

  • I already knew he had a heart attack and that he was most likely dying. I could hear him gurgling when he was breathing and his pupils were totally dilated and my mother who was with me and used to go to vet school said he has had a heart attack. They made him suffer way too long, even though it was clear he was dying.
I took him there in the middle of the night, because I did not want him to suffer for a prolonged period of time. They are expensive and they do unnecessary procedures. I would only go there if I had no other choice or I needed a specialist to do a procedure that can't be done elsewhere. They do have equipment that most vets do not have access, too.

  • We have been bringing our dog here since she was a puppy. The people at this facility are amazing. They are always so pleasant and friendly in greeting us. They get excited that Marley is coming in when I book a stay. There are options for play times and we like to do the one on one. I like the facility because the dogs go outside to go to the potty on grass. We used a different facility once that only had stones and I didn't like that aspect. Best friends always provides a little report card on how your dog did during their stay and they send you an email with a photo of the dog while you are away. I will never go anywhere else for boarding services, well other than my vet.

  •  Our Cat's eye was oozing so we took him into the vet.  Last fall, our cat had had a cancerous eye tumor which was removed.  The vet said, to look for oozing and irritation which  might mean that the tumor had returned.  A common occurrence with the eye. So, when is reoccurred, we phoned for an appointment we were seen that very day.  When we arrived we were greeted by a receptionist/assistant who showed us to a room.  They have a comfortable waiting room with live canaries in a cage and two cats who live there.  Very healthy cats.  The holding room was clean though well worn.  The assistant wrote down our concerns, check Fritz' weight, temperature.  About five minutes later the Dr. came in and gave Fritz a very thorough examination.  He said the eye did not look damaged but that he was concerned about a tumor so suggested we have a biopsy which entail us leaving Fritz overnight.  To perform a biopsy they need to put the cat under.   The assistant phoned the next morning to let us know that Fritz was available for pick-up.  When we went to pick-up Fritz, we had to wait as there were three customers ahead of us and the Dr. was the only person there.  He was attentive to each customer and took his time answering questions and giving instructions for home care. We've had many cats over the years.  We have always used this Veterinarian Clinic although the Doctors have come and gone.  This Doctor, while he doesn't appear to be a TV looking vet,  takes his time and is very gentle and caring with our pet.  He doesn't try to up-sale services and compared with MSU or the urgent care business on the south end of Lansing, this Vet's cost are reasonable for services provided.  He always phones after visits to the clinic, to ask after our pet and to follow-up on by answering our questions or concerns.

  • I love the vet. She is just great with animals. They are always prompt, helpful, and friendly. There have never been any concerns or issues with them. It is pretty easy to get an appointment there. They are flexible.

  • They use a food reward method of training, which was confusing to our dog to deal with all the food being handed out by everyone, including her assistant. When our dog had difficulty with this she just suggested we give her non-stop food as a distraction instead of dealing with the dog's behavior, ie why it is happening and how to help her over come it. We are now seeking another class.
