    Foundation Systems of Michigan
Exceptional service. Workers were on-time, communicated at every step, cleaned up as much as possible, were organized, thorough, and efficient. It has rained (hard) several times since the drainage system was put in and there hasn't been one leak. FSM also worked with the permits, city inspectors, and subcontractors to insure everything was taken care of.

    Olson Cement Work & Construction
When Olson was finished with our new drive, our garage door and house siding was full of cement that we couldn't remove.  We didn't see this until we could walk on the new drive.  I called Olsons and asked them how to get the cement off and they had no answer.  They broke the corner of our garage corner post, smashed 2 of our downspouts.  And when they finished, they cleaned all of their tools on our lawn.  When they were done, we had a pile of cement on our lawn that we had to dig up and plant new grass. They put our gate back up (actually stood it up) as when we went to use the gate, it fell down.  I called them and they lost the bolt that held it together.   t Iold him my husband was up North and I couldn't do it myself..  One guy came back out with a bolt and hooked it back up.  Things went downhill from there.

The cement slab in front of our side door and part of the adjacent slab was cracked from when the snow started until I noticed it when the snow melted in March 2015.  I called Olson's and they said to call them back when the snow was completely melted.  I did and they came out and said it was a fracture and nothing to worry about. The complete drive has spots all over it.  I have never seen this on any drive and I'm sure Olsons would not like their drive to look like mine.  I called the Dearborn City Inspector and he came out   He said he worked in cement before and it was not just a fracture and that the spots were stones showing through.  I called Olsons back several times and to date they have never returned my calls or came out.  Someone was supposed to come out on Monday,, August 24, 2015 at 10:30 am but no one showed up.  I called the office and was told that someone had come out on Saturday, August 22 in while we were away.

So without any results, in the Fall of 2015, I called WDIV Channel 4 Ruth to the Rescue and they called Olsons several times and always were told, "We will call her"., but they never did.  Today, May 20, 2016, I went to see Dearborn's State Representative George Darany for their Senior Help program, "What's On Your Mind"..  He suggested that I write a review on Angies List..  I also left a message with our Mayor O'Reilly.  Mr. Darany also said they had another person who came to him today about Olson's.

Besides the look of our new drive with all the spots, we are concerned about our basement leaking due to heavy rains.  Water finds a way to come in even with the smallest crack.

JOE & SON'S CEMENT CO INC

Once completed, found slab not level off by 2.5 inches to one corner. He agreed his guys screwed up. I needed more concrete work to connect the new garage to the old driveway. Joe & I shook Hands on a deal. I said I would pay for materials if he would perform the labor to have a complete driveway to the garage. He promised me he would have it done in the fall. no word from him. Called him in Florida said he would do it in the spring. He never did it. He does not keep his word. Do not trust him. Very untrustworthy.

SAY NO TO JOE & SONS!

    Olson Cement Work & Construction

in the beginning, the "sales person" seemed honest and willing to answer our questions. They arrived to pour the concrete, it was approximately 6pm and the crew seemed rushed. We noticed they poured about 3/4 of the driveway and the walkway from one truck. Then finished the remaining driveway in front of the house from a different truck. We didn't think anything of it at first. Once the crew was completed and cleaning up we noticed they had washed and poured the containers they used to transport the concrete to the back of house on our front lawn. Which if you can guess, was a mix of water and concrete. We requested to speak with the supervisor, we were told he was busy and would find us before they leave. We never heard from him. When all of trucks departed, we noticed they also dumped their concrete wash on in the street directly in front of our house.  As a result of them using two different trucks for the driveway, the concrete is two different shades. Not really a big deal, but 3/4 of the driveway is about 5 shades darker than the rest of the driveway. Though they didn't charge us extra for a two-tone driveway. The next day another crew arrived to remove the forms. They removed the forms and proceeded to dig a hole in backyard about 2' x 2' big. At first we were a bit puzzled. We approached the guy who seemed to be the supervisor. We expressed concerns about the hole dug in our lawn, the difference in color of the driveway, how they dumped the concrete wash onto our lawn and street and will they be cleaning all of rubber and felt expansion joints they cemented over. He must have had a bad morning, because he responded with angry and spoke to us as if we were idiots. He basically told us the color of driveway would even out and the concrete wash would eventually wash away over time so what's the problem. Well it's been almost 2 months and the driveway is still two-tone and the concrete wash is still visible in the street. We tended to our lawn before it caused any damage. We never did get an explanation about the hole they left in our yard or the expansion joints. Though we had some bad experiences we still stopped in the office to pay our balance, but not without pointing out our experiences. The girls in the office seemed concerned and said they would schedule the sales person/supervisor to stop in and evaluate our claims.

The day he arrived he was concerned at first. I showed him the whole they dug first. He stated he didn't why they did that. He guessed it may have to do with drainage, but he couldn't be sure because they left an empty dirt hole in the yard. So he proceeded to take pictures with his phone and said he would have to consult with the job supervisor to get an answer for us. While he was evaluating the driveway I commented that we were disappointed in the lack of communication from the working crews. We asked why didn't they explain why they were digging a large dirt hole in our yard. We asked to speak to someone and were either ignored or responded with unprofessional and rude response. I said, would you want to be treated in that manner for asking questions or expressing concerns if you were paying thousands of dollars for job. At that moment he stopped writing and in a loud rude voice told me they dig these holes all of the time and I am the only customer that has ever complained about it. A minute ago he told us he didn't know why they did this, now they do it all of the time. I asked him, do you take me for idiot? You just told us you didn't know why the crew dug such a large hole in the yard. At that moment, he told me I was being disrespectful and he was not going to finish our conversation. He turned around, walked to his truck and drove away. We never heard from them again.

I contacted our local city inspector and they informed us the contractor should have cleaned up properly and cleaned the expansion joints if they got cemented over. Well we were left to fill the hole, clean the yard and wire brush clean the rubber and felt expansion joints.

I would recommend you stay away from Olson Cement. They are unprofessional and one of the cheaper contractors, well you get what you pay for.

    Romana Construction
I am totally impressed with the quality and workmanship I received from Romana.  I contacted them in March to get a quote for a garage and Mike came by a few days later.  I gave him my ideas and he showed me some pictures of recent garages they had built and explained how they would be pouring the concrete since the garage is about 180ft off the road.  After helping me select siding, roof colors, roof pitch and door placement he took some measurements and gave me an exact quote in about 30 minutes.  I was expecting to wait several days for it so I was very pleased.  It took a couple weeks for permits to be approved and they began the concrete work soon after.  A week after it had cured a different crew came in and put up the garage in just 4 days.  These guys worked like they have been doing it for many years..... which they had.  Everyone was friendly and would take a few minutes to explain what they were doing.  Also, everyday they would clean the driveway of any nails and construction material so I could still park in the driveway overnight.  When they were finished the electric crew came in and trenched and wired the garage.  Also, the garage door and opener was installed at the same time.  Overall the whole project took 4 weeks but most of that was due to waiting for the concrete to cure and scheduling the crews.  Kudos to Romana for their excellent work.  They've been in business for almost 60 years so they know what they're doing.  Their price is fair.  They are professional and courteous.  And I always had a good feeling that this project would turn out well.  It sure did!

JOE & SON'S CEMENT CO INC

Signed contract for new patio June 24, 2014. Changed mind and wanted mud jacking. Joe would not give refund. Said he already paid for permit. Joe called numerous times to schedule project, but I kept postponing. Finally, in late August, came home one Sunday and Joe had spray painted our patio with orange paint. Called him. He said ours was the next job. I had never agreed to a date at that point. Joe said paint would wash off. It did not. Called back a few days later and scheduled job for following week thinking we had paint on the patio and he paid for the permit. Later found out permit was only $45. Prior to start of work, I told Joe I would not pay him until I could see the job fixed our problem. During installation, Joe's foreman was in front of our home berating and swearing at one of the workers so loudly that my neighbor contacted me to ask what was going on. Patio completed September 5 and Joe asked for payment. Told Joe I wanted to see how it went in the rain. Joe was not happy. We had concerns about the job so we read the permit application and found we should have a base and 4 inches of concrete. We knew Joe did not put in a base and concrete appeared less than 4 inches. After several inspections city said we have to pay Joe because they cannot tell whether there is a base and how deep the concrete is. We finally cut two holes and found the patio is 2 and 3 inches. Still asking the city for another inspection. We are in litigation with Joe.

Tried on several occasions to have him stop by my place for a quote, but I continuously am unable to get this to happen. Left messages. I even have detailed drawings to make the job quote easier. Gave up. Just too hard to make contact with.

    BENNETT CONSTRUCTION
Shannon Bennett and his family did a great job on this somewhat compllicated project. The work involved removing existing driveway, widening the parking area and repairing existing retaining wall. Shannon was easy to work with to get the layout right which required some back and forth with the city. The quote was competitive and the extra work that was needed was very fairly handled. I look forward to working with Bennett construction on future projects!

Joe and his crew were great. The fact that I had such a small job to do, to 7'x7' sections of my driveway that the City of Dearborn said I had to replace, it was tough to find anyone who was interested. Joe did the job, and did it quickly. There was also one section of my walkway he also replaced for next to nothing. He did it because he thought the City might site me for it eventually, and since they were going to be here, might as well take care of it.
Since Joe has done work in Dearborn for 30+ years, I took his word and did it, living in Dearborn for more than 10 years now I know how picky they can be.
I would not hesitate to recommend Joe and his team to anyone looking to get concrete work done. They were fast, they cleaned up, and the price was more than fair.

From start to finish, everything about the job went smoothly.  The concrete driveway had begun to crack in multiple places and the front section of the garage floor not only developed a wide crack from one side of the garage to the other, but there also was a difference in elevation between the two sides.  Romana gave me a detailed quote and, on the day of the scheduled day for the work, showed up with a crew of about 7 men.  They worked together very efficiently, broke up and removed all of the old concrete, poured new gravel for the base and poured and finished all of the new concrete in one afternoon.  They returned the next day to make expansion cuts.  I am happy with the job.
