FThey claim they don't really rent wrecks, but good used cars. I did not find this to be true. The first car they gave me sounded so awful I took it back and they gave me another vehicle that had the pungent smell of animal urine and badly stained seats. The car had 148,000 miles on it and I noticed the check engine light was on after a few days of driving it. The transmission didn't shift properly, it had an extreme hesitation that made driving a challenge. When I asked about the check engine light, they didn't even want to check the car out, they just told me to keep driving it. When I told them the transmission was hesitating, they said they had just replaced it and it was ok. I was intending to rent the vehicle for an entire month, which they claim is $495.00. It is actually only 28 days, not an entire month. And it turns out they actually charge a lot more with their processing and other fees. Your signature on their rental agreement makes you liable for anything that can go wrong, like accidently hitting a chuck hole. For a high mileage, poor driving vehicle, the liability is all on the renter! I ended up returning the vehicle after one week of renting it because it was too hard to drive and I could get a way better deal from Hertz for a way better car. I brought the car back and they told me the person doing the inspection would not be able to inspect it for another 30 minutes so I should just leave and they would process my refund. This didn't provide me the opportunity to dispute anything they decided to charge me for, so I would not recommend leaving until they inspect the vehicle with you present. They actually charged me $10.00 to wash the car because it wasn't clean when I returned it. If I had known, I would have made sure to wash it off. It doesn't cost $10.00 to wash a car, even in most drive through places you can do it for $4. They ended up charging me $190 for a one week rental. To make matters worse, I still have not received the credit on my credit card account and they tell me it can take up to seven business days. This has been very inconvenient for me because I can't use my credit card due to keeping a low limit on it. I have never had this happen in the many years of having this card. I am currently renting a Hertz vehicle for 4 weeks at $440.07 total. That's Total price. So if you think you are not getting the best price on a car rental, think again, don't Rent-a-Wreck.
