    Grennan Construction
We used Angies list to pick a few highly rated firms to redo the entire outside of our home. They all offered the high quality products we wanted, and two of indicated that they would have a somewhat similar cost. We chose Grennan in part because Fred was not a high pressure sales person, he seemed business-like, quietly confident, and trustworthy. He also worked with us to develop a contract that clearly stated what would and would not be done, and in our case where we wanted three different treatments in different areas of the house, also clearly stated what would be done where. Of course it was impossible to know what was under the current siding so he set up a clear and fair rate for repair work should it be needed. We had a small section of our home done in stone and Grennen subcontracted that to a mason named Eric who did very good work. It is more of an artistic product than one might imagine to do the rounded rock we chose, and the gentlemen did a fine job on both the structural and the artistic aspects. We then had Chriss crew do the bulk of the siding work and they were great. They arrived promptly, worked steadily and did high quality work for us. Despite every effort being made to have a clear and complete contract there are always small choices that must be made in any moderately complex house design. Chris was always happy to explain and discuss and would do the extra work to make it look great, rather than take the easy way. All three members of the crew were unfailingly polite and friendly. I do not know if you can specifically request Chris, or Eric but you might want to try. Adam was our projects manager and he was also unfailingly polite and always sought to be sure we were well taken care of. The gutters were also subcontracted and the team from downriver did a fast and very good job. Our home is especially difficult because we have rain barrels in the summer and underground drains in the winter, but these folks were unphased by this challenge and got the job done well and on schedule. We also had two small crews come out to do shutters after the siding was up. They were nice people and did their jobs well and quickly. When it was all over the house looked spectacular and we have had many compliments. All the details like remounting lights and drier vents and the like were done well. We were totally happy. One bit of advice. You should not be surprised that doing good work for a fair price, Grennan is in demand. There is a backlog of work at least in the spring and summer, so unless you are having your work done in a slow season be sure to leave a couple months for your project to reach the top of the list and for all the materials to come in. If you plan ahead this is not an inconvenience, if you do not plan ahead you might be frustrated by having to wait.

    Chimney Cricket
Beware of this company. We had an appointment for them to come out to give us an estimate for a new front porch. They never showed and didnt call. Three days later the owner returned my husbands call and apologized for the mistake. We got an estimate and he gave us 10% off because of the inconvenience. We financed through them and waited for our work date. My husband took off of work because we were told they needed someone home. At 11:30 the day of the install, when nobody had called or shown up my husband called and they said, sorry nobody can come today. They gave us another date 3 weeks later saying that it was no problem doing the work even though it was half way into November. That day came and we came home at lunch time to see the progress to find nobody here. When my husband called, they said that someone had been out to start the work and were then called to another job. We were told they would be back the next day. It was a lie. Nothing had been started and from that day on we couldnt even get them to return our phone call. A month later, my husband had to cancel the financing because it was clear they were never going to provide the service they promised. DO NOT use this company. We have a cracked and falling apart porch that were stuck with now until spring when we can try to hire another company. Were hoping that not getting it fixed will not cause more problems with leaks, etc.

Work went great - they were prompt, courteous, arrived on time... knocked out the work efficiently and had tools on hand to do it properly. Went over all aspects of the chimney as I had no idea what the history was on it..and the pointed out the work that they recommended and gave prices on the spot. They said additional work would be scheduled/performed at a later date and were completely honest with the more 'critical' areas and such.... not pushing sales and additional work. I appreciated that, and had them come back out to do the items they mentioned. I probably did a bit OVER the top of what I needed at that moment, but they knocked this laundry list of things in 4 hours and Steven did excellent work, went over everything, took pictures of things up on the roof, cleaned up...super polite...even my kids said he was very nice. That sort of thing goes a long way to making it great experience and I'll be definitely calling them back for maintenance down the road. As a side note, I see quite a bit of critical reviews...not quite sure what the story is on that...I'm really surprised, as I've had a number of contractors out recently...and they seemed very honest and followed up in all areas appropriately. Came in, and knocked out the work... Scheduling was simple, and they called me to follow-up, too. For someone starting from ground zero on maintenance, they took care of this area for me and now I can at least get one area of the house checked off the list and enjoy it in the fall!

    Specialty Handyman
Imagine you are in the middle of painting your house and the painter refuses to repair the chimney because it was so bad. I fortunately contacted Specialty. I was given 3 weeks to review by other companies but Nosh not only came that evening, he left to look to match 50+year old bricks AND he was by my house at 7:30 the following morning AND tore down and replaced my entire chimney in less than 48 hours and did a skillful masterful job, (we are not related, I am just super happy to have contracted Specialty

    Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements
It went well except we chose a color that turned out to be outlandish:(. We called the company after the main color was 3/4 finished. They told us about a design consultant that was available so we arranged to meet with Courtney. She came out and helped us choose the best design for us. It was wonderful. We are very pleased with the results. We have had many compliments from neighbors. One person even said he thought it upgraded the neighborhood. The only regret is that we did not consult with the design consultant, Courtney, in the beginning. The painting team lead by James was friendly and professional. He even returned when all was finished to fix a few problems that we spotted after all was done. The gentleman who came to hang the shutters, Kenny did a great job. They look better than the original shutters. We are extremely happy with our new look!

    Brickworks Property Restoration LLC
Brandon did the appraisal and the crew leader. Corey and Jeff were two of the four workmen who came to the house. All were excellent. They were timely, courteous, professional, and, after they left, you would not have known that they were there except that all of the brickwork had been repaired. I also felt they were fairly priced. They had to remove and rebuild the top 10 layers of the chimney, tuck-pointing and brick replacement around the bottom corner of the garage and tuck-point and repair one end of the front porch. They were there before 9 am and were done by 2:45 pm. I cannot praise them enough. Great job everyone! Thank you.

    Easy Home Improvement
Bought the $79 for $200 deal. Easy Home Improvement provided a cost estimate cost to do the job of $950 -- with coupon, the net cost was $829. I thought it was high, so I sought another estimate from a highly rated Angie's List provider. The latter estimate come it at $500 for the same work. I went with that provider (obtained refund from Angie's List on Easy Home Improvement coupon) and was highly satisfied. Easy Home Improvement was very nice and professional when providing the estimate -- was easy to talk to and spent time explaining what they would do and why, but the cost disparity was too great. Based on my conversations with both providers, my take on masonry pricing is that its seems that masonry providers -- coupons or no coupons -- charge $1500 a day or approximately $750 for a half-day job if they can string two half-day jobs together. In my case, the job wasn't even a half-day (only took them a couple of hours), but my small job fit into the limitations of early spring season weather, so my take is that one provider gave me reduced pricing, but Easy Home Improvement did not.

    Pisani Contracting
Very well. Pisani was the lower (40% lower) of two estimates I received from well-rated Angie List providers (the lower pricing may have been a special case because I had a small job which perhaps fit into the early spring weather which may limit the types of jobs masons can commit to). Gregg was easy to talk to and took the time to explain what was needed to do the job right. I was pleased that they schedule the job even earlier than I thought they could when we had temporary break in the rainy colder weather. His people came on time and were very professional and efficient in doing the job. I was very satisfied with the results. Gregg came at the end of the job to make sure I was satisfied and everything had been done right and in accordance with what we had agreed. Would have no hesitation considering to use them in future masonry work.

    Pisani Contracting
Got a prompt call back to my inquiry. Mr. Pisani came out a couple of days later, personally checked out what we wanted done, and gave us some options. Despite a very rainy September, he and his crew had all the work completed within 2 1/2 weeks of my initial call. They did a beautiful job, and were tidy and polite. Mr. Pisani kept us updated daily with the status of the work when heavy rains delayed completion by almost a week. We could not be more pleased with their work, and would recommend them to anyone.
