5 Tips to Get the Best Tree Service

Tree Service reviews in Ann Arbor

    McFarland Tree Service Inc
McFarland Tree Service was the best tree service I have ever hired and I have been having tree work done for about 40 years. Shane came out, spent plenty of time with me walking around and looking at what was needed and made several really good suggestions about things I hadn't even thought of. Additionally, he gave me several options with each project...including do nothing (how refreshing not to be pressured) with the costs of each and the consequences of each. The crew did a beautiful job. Came when they said they would and cleaned up so that I couldn't tell they had been here. I was so impressed, I am having them do another job this week.

One neighbor was deeply upset about the fact that the fence was moving toward his house, but that's where the surveyed property line lay. He actually threatened to shoot me if we proceeded with the clearing and fence install. I informed Brian and his crew so they would be forewarned, but they said not to worry and that they would "win them over with kindness." Had the neighbor asked, Spears would have done some free tree trimming for them to complete the job. As it was, they did not, and Spears was sufficiently congenial that the people staying at the neighbor's slum cooperated and allowed them access to the driveway to make the tree removal easier. This is the second job I've had Spears bid on, and they've always been reasonably priced and professional. I expect to use them in the future on any small jobs, and on large ones if their bids remain reasonable. I've been thoroughly satisfied with their work.

J's Tree Trimming & Removal, Inc.
Two of our trees and one of neighbor's were interfering with the line from the pole to their house. We hired J's to trim all three and lighten up the largest and remove dead wood. Workers came and did a fabulous job, with one exception: they didn't trim the neighbor's tree at all, even the estimate explicitly stated that it was the neighbor's tree. Still, readyy enough mistake, so I called the next day and spoke with the receptionist and told her about the mistake. She said that J would be out to look at it that day. Never showed up. Called again and this time spoke with J and was assured it would be taken care of. Still nothing. Called again on the next Monday and was told it would be scheduled for this week. Called again at 3:50 PM on Friday and got no answer. Over two weeks from when the work was scheduled to be done and the tree is still untouched. The work that WAS done was great, but I paid for three trees and one two were done.

    The Davey Tree Expert Company
Contacted the Davey's over their web site contact form at the same time as the other 3 A-listed by Angie's. Davey's were the first to respond 2 days later and scheduled the free estimate. Chad came over right on time (maybe even 5 minutes earlier). Unfortunately he had just returned from his vacation and was out of the routine and did not have his laptop with him and could not give the estimate right away. However, he had followed up with an email in the afternoon. Unfortunately the quote was at $8300 - way over the other 2 companies. Overall the communication was good. Chad was very polite and upbeat. He apologized for forgetting his laptop. I am sure the company would have done a great job if I hired them, but the other 2 companies came in at $6000 and $5800 correspondingly, with the rest being equal, so I chose not to hire Davey's for the job.

    Guardian Tree Experts
Our experience was very good working with Garrett who is a certified arborist. Our 35' blue spruce toppled over during a storm, along with a lot of other folks in the area. They were quick to cut up and remove the downed tree laying across the driveway, then left to help others with their downed trees. They came back a week later and removed the stump and ground it down. Meanwhile, Garrett came out and we discussed a replacement tree, deciding on a 6'-7' concolor fir. The tree was planted shortly after but did not survive the summer thus they replaced the tree and this it is thriving.

    Guardian Tree Experts
Guardian Tree Experts has provided us with top notch service. They were amazingly responsive with cutting up and removing a post storm fallen tree laying across our driveway. Garrett is responsive in returning calls and has been by a few times. He helped us pick a tree replacement since Blue Spruce are no longer recommended for planting in MI and then made sure we were satisfied and discussed care after its planting. He gave us options for the fungus affecting our crab apple trees and we opted for trimming and spraying, bringing them back to health. The replacement tree is a beautiful concolor fir but sadly died. Garrett took care of replacement per their 1 year warranty without issue and it's doing very well. We will definitely use them again when the need arises.

    united outdoor service
Ed & his crew at United Outdoor Service did an outstanding job for my wife & I at our home between Ann Arbor and Dexter. Many of our mature hedges died over the spring & we needed them all (~90 linear ft) of them removed & replaced. Ed helped us with every step - suggesting good species candidates, sourcing the replacement plants, removing the old shrubs, bringing in topsoil, hauling off waste, and removing another flower bed in preparation for another project. Ed's prices were a very good value for the size of the task. Ed and his crew were punctual & polite. In our communications with Ed before & during the job he was always punctual and professional. We have used Ed & United Outdoor Services for several other jobs in the past and will continue to do so. Top notch - would recommend.

    Chamberlain Tree Corp
Bob and his team are fantastic! Bob is professional, friendly and does great work at a reasonable price. We hired him to cut down three large trees overhanging our house and could not be happier with the work that they did.

Prices are very reasonable. We've used them over the past few years for various jobs (including refurbishing an old playset). Work was always done well and done in a timely fashion. Will continue to use them.

Natural Way Lawn Tree & Pest Service
Our experience with Natural Way has been very good. We started a few years back having them treat just our front yard for a growing weed problem. We noticed a definite difference by the end of the season so we added the back yard for our 2nd season. Into the fall we had our 7 blue spruce a couple of other conifers given root treatments and a winter protectant after a brutal winter the previous year. The blue spruce got a little better but ultimately could not get past a fungus that has attacked all of them in this area of the country. We stopped treating all but one of the blue spruce (a much younger one not yet sick). The remainder of our trees are looking very healthy. The company is very responsive to inquiries and has a wonderful automated system that emails me when our treatment is a day or two out, signs are left in the yard and they reuse them when I leave them on our porch ahead of time.
