Gas Fireplace Repair reviews in Ann Arbor

FSmokestack Sweep LLCWe booked this company because we did not know what was wrong with our fireplace. A "gas log tune up" was the closest option from the available choices, which included "free estimates". I made it clear upon confirmation of the appointment that we were unsure of what was wrong. They advertise "free estimates". Be warned, they do not honor "free estimates"; instead when they come to see the job, they charge an $89 - $99 "assessment fee" as a "service call" (later claiming that "free estimates" do not apply). Eventually, they completed the job to my satisfaction. However, they do not honor schedules, nor answer/return phone calls to update where in the process their services stand. Moreover, they will "flag" your account for calling. Overall, terrible customer service. Mr. Scheller (the owner) did not treat my wife with respect, leaving her frustrated and in tears from the way he spoke to her. Moreover, he made nothing but excuses for the way he treated her.- Justin E.

AGas Fireplace Service & RepairGreat - I called Robin and left a message and he called back in 20 minutes. He was able to come out from Waterford the next day to Ann Arbor - on Saturday(!) when I was home. He called ahead, was on time and had all the parts need to make all the repairs to both brands and ages of fireplaces with him in his truck. One of the fireplaces had a recall on the pilot light that he was able to fix. Both fireplaces he adjusted all of the burners, the pilot lights, remote and sensors. Robin also adjusted the "wood" and added embers for a better fire burn look. He even ploughed the drive on his way out(!) He called me to give me after the appointment with part numbers if we needed warranty support and pricing on the older system. Robin was well informed on all of the brands, knew what to do, was careful to clean up the insert so it the dust on the insert would not cause smells and cleaned the glass properly so no residue remained.- Fred B.

ADoctor Flue, inc.It went really well and we were extremely happy. The old insert was a monster to move--large and very heavy. Mike and his assistant carried it through all the doorsills with millimeters of clearance and with no damage to our interiors. Throughout the afternoon, they were meticulously clean and there was no soot or debris left behind. The gas lines and flue liners were put in place and the insert positioned within the fireplace opening. Although they had not installed this Jotul model before, they had clearly planned ahead of time and were very conversant with the specifics of the set up and the two men worked together as a great team. They were both courteous and helpful and as soon as they left (although it was a late summer afternoon), we fired up our new insert and enjoyed getting familiar ourselves with this great new product.- Dennis M.

DDetroit City Sweep LLCThey sent someone out. He was on time and was able to diagnose the problem. He said that he couldn't do the tune up we paid for until the fireplace was fixed and called his mentor who suggested a part we needed to replace. They gave me a bid, which I approved. Then...nothing. I've tried contacting them several times and have never heard back from them. It has been months, and they still have not performed the service that they were hired for.- Jeremy B.

ADoctor Flue, inc.I initially contacted Doctor Flue through their website about having the chimney cap replaced along with an inspection. They got back to me with a email about their inspection and proposal quote process, along with options to receive a free inspection provided I send them detailed photos. Being a new house, we decided a detailed inspection was our best bet. The inspection cost is waived if repairs end up being over a certain amount, which we new the degraded chimney cap would be. I was able to schedule an appointment within two weeks of calling.
They called a few days before the inspection and gave us a time when they would arrive. They were running ahead that day and gave me a call which worked for the better. Jacob and Jason did our inspection. Jacob was the point man and walked me through what we were looking at and answered my questions, leaving Jason the job of scaling up our two story house in the cold and possibly ending up on the receiving end of rodents flying out of the chimney into his face (luckily none were found).
They did a great job of protecting our new wood floors coming in and out and working around the fireplace. Everything was explained in a straightforward manner while they were running the camera up the chimney. It was pretty obvious from the videos that the flue was messed up and not safe for fire, and this answered a lot of questions about why the previous owner installed a crappy ventless gas system. Jacob did a quick inspection of the ventless system, cleaned it out, and fired it up so it's usable. Knowing nothing about vented and ventless systems, he explained the difference and made a strong recommendation for vented without trying to push it on me. I did some research after the fact, and all the info I was given was backed up by others as accepted standard practice stuff.
In the end I was presented three proposals: One for the structural work, one for a new flue that would allow for a vented gas system or wood, and a third that included all of the work and a new vented gas system. All of the proposals were done on-site and Jacob talked me through them after they were put together. Additionally, the proposals were emailed to me along with the inspection report that included color photos. We decided to just fix the chimney cap for now and had to schedule for next spring due to the concrete work needed. If we ever decide to have a functioning chimney or level-up to a vented system, it's nice to have these documents on file.

ADoctor Flue, inc.Mike and Cavin arrived on time and were very professional. Cleaned and inspected both fireplaces, showed video
of chimneys which did not need to be sweep. Certainly will use this company for next inspection.

ADoctor Flue, inc.The technicians called before arrival and were actually early. They introduced themselves by name right away, wore booties over their shoes, and set to work to diagnose the problem with the electric start for my gas fireplace. They had the equipment necessary to fix the problem, gave me the price, and were able to accomplish everything in one trip.
Not only were they professional and efficient, they went the extra mile to educate me about how my fireplace works and how I can enhance the operation.
I highly recommend them.

ADr Sweep
The repairman showed up promptly and performed the maintenance service very professionally. It took about 20 minutes. Based on the gas log model that we had, we didn't need near as much replacement or refreshing material as was listed in the deal. I guess I was pretty satisfied with the service but felt that it was overpriced for the amount of time and maintenance needed.

AAllstate Home LeisureAllstate home leisure supplied and installed a natural gas log fireplace insert in my existing fireplace. The installers that they used, Rasa Construction were extremely knowledgeable, professional, and neat. They did the install in about four hours, and cleaned up after themselves before they left.- Paul E.

ADoctor Flue, inc.2 personable young men cleaned and adjusted a vented gas log fireplace and an enclosed gas log, climbed the roof, photographed outside and inside chimney. No mess! This was a good deal. Offered a lifetime contract on leak proof chimney cover- probably a good deal for younger owners.- Bernard W. A.
