    Royal River Heat Pumps
Service was exceptional. Scott, the owner, explained the process in detail and answered every question I had regarding heat pumps in general. The crew that did the installation was extremely organized and worked very well together and with me. They made very little mess and cleaned up what they did make. At the end of the install, they also carefully explained how to use the remotes and went over the manual. Additionally, Scott came over a couple of days later to make sure I was happy, understood the remote and answer more questions. I had never heard of heat pumps until a few months ago. Now I see them being installed everywhere. So far, I love mine as they are quiet and efficient.

He had to rip out all of the old system and put in the new. It was not a 2 day deal. It was a very big process. He did a great job. I would with enthusiasm endorse him. He was very prompt. When he said he would show up at a certain time, he showed up so I liked that. He gave me a quote within 24 hours of his first inspection. He did the job right at the quote, there was no cost overrun. He said he would start on a certain date and finish on a certain date and he did exactly that. He started and finished on time. He is very knowledgeable. He explained everything to me, what was going on and what I was getting and why. He was very patient and explained everything. He helped me decide which was the best system for my house, because he doesn't represent just one manufacturer. He can install pretty much anything. He is not bias towards one brand or another on heating systems. He advised what was best for our house and we looked at all the numbers and came up with the best one. On top of all that, he is a really good guy. He is very neat. When you are doing things like that you are going to make a mess, there is no way around it, but he did a really good job of cleaning things up, he did a very nice job. Anytime I had a question, he called me right back.

Service person arrived when our nanny was at the house and she told him to call us once the issue was identified.  Instead, he left an illegible write-up and never called us explain what the problem was. Came home to the heat still not working and called their after-hours number. The technician said they did not have the parts to fix it, so it was not worth coming out. Only option was to go without heat for 4 days until the part arrived.  They apparently do not stock parts for the boilers that they install (in this case an ignitor). This is the second time they have left us without heat in the winter.  The first time, when we signed up to use them for propane delivery, they dropped off the tanks but did not hook them up, leaving us without heat for 24 hours. They are horrible to work with, would not recommend them to anyone.

That was all good. He was professional, knew immediately what the problem was, and made a temporary fix so it didn't leak. He told us that we needed a new humidifier unit, and gave us an estimate that seemed fair.

At the end of the visit, we were told that they would not be able to come to replace the unit for 3 weeks. Seemed a little long, but not that big a deal; the furnace works and other customers may not have heat... But we were then told that this company had it's own propane delivery service, and generally didn't do service calls unless we changed to their service. He told us that their rates were comparable to other companies, but that they put their propane customers first and looked to establish a fee service to yearly inspect the furnace and gas lines. All this didn't seem unreasonable to me, in fact it was probably a good idea for safety, but it did leave me feeling like I just wasted a lot of time, to find out that unless I signed up for service, I couldn't get the real problem solved in a timely manner.

I asked the technician if they would fix our problem, even if we decided not to switch propane providers, he said they would when they could, but that they would not be able to do any more work for us in the future unless we became a propane customer.

I like to develop a relationship with companies who will, over the years, get to know us and our home as we need things taken care of. I would have liked to be told of their policies when I made the appointment, and I probably would have chosen a different heating repair company.

I checked out their website briefly, and didn't see any mention of this policy they have. They do way on the Angie's site description : 24 HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICE TO ESTABLISHED CUSTOMERS, but now I assume that this refers to propane delivery customers, not just service customers.

I don't complain at all about the service, I just don't really care for the policies they have.

    Eastern Shore Home Improvement
We contacted several contractors to get estimates on having vinyl siding installed on our house. Scott from Eastern Shore was the most professional, and the only one who followed up with us after giving us the estimate to see if we had questions. Choosing Eastern Shore over the others was an easy decision.
My husband works in retail and was home during much of the time when the work was being done. Joe, who actually did the installation, spoke with him often, and whenever a question came up, Joe contacted Scott, who responded promptly.
This job improved the appearance of our home 100% and we are very pleased with the quality of the work. We would not hesitate to recommend Eastern Shore Home Improvement to anyone.

I have about a 5000 square ft house with more than half of the house using radiant heat. There are 3 manifolds just for the radiant and 7 thermostats for it. The two largest areas have never seemed to work correctly and the installer and another master plumber traded out some parts, but the system never seemed very responsive in a definitive way to the repairs (still noisy - you could hear the water coming on in the middle of the night and never good temperature regulation). These two areas were part of our walkout basement and so are not in constant use. This lower level was completed with the radiant system installed maybe six years ago.
It only became a real problem the past couple months where it became really hot in what is normally a cool basement. The thermostat read almost 90 degrees day after day and thereby heating my upstairs in the month of August! Thank goodness I found a radiant expert that diagnosed the problem as a bad thermostat. Too bad the system doesn't just shut the heat off as a default when there's a problem instead of wasting money on heat!

We decided to use them because we had gone with them for a number of years when we lived in another home. They are good but the price is not as good as some other companies. Their service was good; they were responsive and came when they said they would. They were professional.

I have used him before and didn't have any problems. But, this last time I hired him his personality was very erratic. He was very  pleasant at  times and very rude at other times. He would tell us he could do it, and then he could not.  I would  recommend him but with some reservations.

They showed up on time with a full crew.  They cut away the piping from the old boiler, removed and disposed of the heavy unit. They installed new piping, insulation, valves, etc. to tie into as much of the existing plumbing as possible.

They used a crew of four initially to remove the old furnace boiler, cart it away and install the new boiler. Once the heavy work was done a crew of two set about the installation, plumbing and electrical. They added new insulation, brought the plumbing up to current code and worked well in a somewhat confined area. It was a treat to watch them work.

They did an excellent job, even explaining their work as I tried to stay out of their way..

All the work was completed as planned in a timely manner.  They explained their work as I watched, kind of like watching a surgical procedure that took a full day to complete. Once completed, they reviewed with me the work they had done.   They were knowledgeable, timely, well-staffed and equipped, courteous and flexible in working around my schedule.  They returned the next day to inspect their work after it had run, delivering both heat and hot water for drinking and washing.

I would use them again in a heart beat for major plumbing and heating needs.  I continue to recommend them to neighbors.

Really well! There was a slight problem with one of the components which was a fault out of the box (factory defect), but the technicians and owner were extremely responsive to the problem, even staying late to make sure everything was working. I have had follow-up calls as well to make sure things were satisfactory. Courteous, good bidding process, clean work. Highly recommend!!
