John Chase(Owner) and Bill Noone (President) met with us to discuss building our new home. Let's just say it was the very definition of (Over Promise Under Deliver). John and Bill are smooth salesman. They said and promised all the right things. My favorites are "Here is my cell phone number, call me anytime, Day or Night"(John and Bill) and "I am going to work on it all weekend, I will have something for you first thing Monday morning" (Bill). The second one happened 4 times!!!!! I provided Bill with plans to our house. They provided us with a spec sheet. Unfortunately that was the "bait". The "switch" part came as we tried to get a contract. After 4 weeks of "I am going to work on it all weekend..., and numerous phone calls (too many to count) not returned the final numbers came in $25K over budget and $30K worth of downgrades on the house. For example, our Trex deck was now treated lumber, our future basement bathroom was not stubbed in, our windows package was downgraded from trapezoidal windows to rectangle.... to name a few. We wasted 4.5 weeks with these guys. If they didn't want to build the house why not just say so. Why delay and under communicate for 4 weeks, just to submit us a contract that they knew we would never accept. Bill Noone should be selling used cars!!!! He would fit right in! Bottom Line- The only way Chase is building you a house is if they can take you to the cleaners. As soon as they saw that wasn't going to happen they lost interest in this project in a hurry. And then they didn't have the guts to say so!! Instead they strung us along for an entire month. I cannot put into words, how strongly I believe that you should avoid the "Chase Used Car Lot"!!

Not well. Chase's program is set up that they buy the land, and design and build the home. We had paid a significant deposit and the house plans were almost finalized. We (and our realtor) had told our Chase representative repeatedly to buy the land, as we were worried we would lose it. Our first offer was refused by the seller. When Chase finally put in our full-price offer, we were told that the lot had sold that morning. On the positive side, when we said we would no longer work with them, our deposit was quickly refunded.

The workmen were wearing heavy-duty face masks to protect their lungs. I was expected to walk through the hall where all the dust was. I have been coughing since I left because I had to walk through TWICE. The first time I asked them to turn the sanders off while I walked through. They complied but I still had to breathe in all the dust that was in the air. When I was leaving, I tried to signal them to stop sanding and they tried to ignore me. The foreman saw me and he had them shut them off. When I complained to him about the dust loose in the air and blowing into the faces of patrons, he told me to "Grow up!" I am 68 years old and normally have no breathing problems. When I called this company to complain, I was told that the sanding shouldn't take much more than 2 hours and they wanted to do it during the day so they could put the sealant on at night. A tenant in the building told me that she had been told the sanding would be done at night. If the sanding was to take less than 3 hours, both could have been done at night. The public should not be exposed to this kind of dust/pollution! I am also reporting them to Maine Air Quality Control. I was referred by Maine D.E.P. I would not use or recommend a company who has such little concern for the health of others.

After looking at several excavation contractors, I finally settled on Shaw as the best option. I had seen the work they did for a neighbor and was able to coincide their work with mine. I had staked out the area to be excavated, explained this to Brian, the owner and went to work. When I returned, they had performed the service exactly as I had asked and, in fact, it was better than I had expected. Everything was even where it needed to be, and the different levels were spaced perfectly and expertly. I have more excavation needs in the future and will definitely work with these guys again.

Home was built but quality very poor. Currently in 2012 I am paying to replace rotten siding and rim joist due to poor construction. Other item in the home were also done very poorly. I would never recommend this contractor.

This building project went very well.  Communication with JP was wonderful and the quality of work was phenomenal.  The home was built in 3 months start to finish.  We only have good things to say about JP construction and highly recommend them to anyone looking to build a home.

    Brilliantly.
I won't even consider hiring a different contractor, unless Ken specifically recommends a specialist.
Ken is a true professional and a gentleman. I'm 100% comfortable with him and his crew working at my house anytime.
The market is flooded with people claiming expertise as carpenters, or painters, or roofers. Ken has been in the business for decades. He's trustworthy, fair, and above all, extremely competent. He's gone above and beyond on every job we've hired him for.
I'm not an Angie's List junkie. I signed up here solely to give Ken Hawkes a presence on the List. I have no affiliated with Ken or his business. Just looking for a way to say "Thanks" for the amazing work, and to give him my highest recommendation for anyone considering a home improvement project in the future.

Joe was hired by as customer to do some construction work on a home in Yarmouth.  I am a paint contractor who has cultivated a 3+ year working relationship with this same customer.

The customer had her heart set on purchasing a specific home.  I had been told many times over the years that I would be awarded the painting work on this property if/when she bought it.  As the sale was pending the customer called me to tell me the exciting news of the home purchase she had been anticipating for several years.  She said she was working with a general contractor (Joe Solmos)  but she was going to have my company do the painting work.

I met with Joe and had a very pleasent conversation in regard to the job.  I had not heard anything in about 6 weeks (said he would call me back)  so decided to call the customer to find out the status of the job.  She has informed me that Joe has totally ignored my previous agreement and relationship with the customer and weaseled "his painter" in to do this work I have been planning on completing.

This is a principal issue...His lack of follow up and actions lack honesty and integrity.  He did not have the decency to call me and left me hanging.
