    Plumbers were late I called apparent mix up in client schedule. Upon arrival two men used a motorized snake on sewer line in the basement but didn't find a problem, then used snake from sewer line exit to the road. Said they think there may be a problem 45' away from house and they wished me luck with sewer district. When I received bill I noticed charge for rental of the snake for $85. I called the office and asked why the rental fee. They said it is their snake but they charge a rental fee per use. Seemed odd to me but I learned my lesson that even with good Angie's list reviews always shop around for best prices, or just go to a rental outfit and rent a snake and do it yourself!

    Ralph's Handyman Services
    Overcharged for parts that we were told was only 10 bucks but he charged 30 and then tried to charge for an extra hours labor. When he left and I checked the slip it showed 3 hrs labor when he was only there for two. Called him and made him come back to return the over charged amount and he copped to overcharging. Wonder how many people he's "accidentally" overcharged that just didn't check their slip

    Everything they touch the furnace something breaks or malfunctions.  Not sure why but repeat trips are covered except parts which is good.  At the end the furnace always runs great but expect multiple trips.

    The service people and people on the phone are always friendly, but I always feel like I am the last person of any importance to them.  When I had a problem with the toe kick heater in my kitchen, the service person said he didn't have the part he needed to fix it and would get one and call me.  A month later I had to call them to see what was up.  They came out again.. again without the part.  Then more time went by.  They never did anything unless I called them.  After a year or so of this very slow back and forth, they finally asked if they could forget about the job and I gave up.  They have done my yearly furnace maintenance for several years, and I've never had any reason to fault their work, but then I know nothing about furnace, so who knows.  If you enjoy nagging businesses and keeping them on their toes, you might get good results from them, but I will not be calling them again.

    The Chore Store Inc
    Tom was polite, prompt and worked around my very busy schedule. When the initial, temporary patch failed to seal the leak, he immediately had his crew return and complete the entire job even though I was not the next customer on his schedule. They were courteous and cleaned the bathroom area after working each day, something other construction crews often leave to the owner. My house is a three story Victorian and the roof is difficult to reach! Tom and his crew brought the correct ladders and tools the very first time they arrived, thus enabling them to begin work immediately.

    The Breathable Home
    Initially, it took a lot of time to get everything set up. A lot of back-and-forth emails and voicemails. I was probably as much at fault as the contractor on that one. I was taking advantage of the Efficiently Maine grant that was available at the time. After having the initial energy audit done, I sat down with Bo Jespersen to discuss what work my house needed and what the anticipated energy savings would be from each one. There was a lot of pressure to install a new hot water tank to replace the on-demand system I had in place. This was supposed to amount to significant energy savings. After looking at all of the options, I agreed to the new hot water tank and the final weatherization contract had anticipated energy savings of close to 40%. Now, I am not naive and did not expect to realize a 40% saving, but I did expect the savings to be noticeable. After 2.5 years, the savings are minimal to nonexistent. What little savings I do see can probably be attributed to the programmable thermostats. On the plus side, the crew working on my house were always on time and pleasant. At the end of the work day, they were excellent about cleaning up their materials and supplies. At the completion of the job however, there was some caulking that had gotten on the floors and walls that I needed to clean up. The work in the attic also led a small crack in the ceiling in one of the closets. The clothes in that closet were covered in plaster and quot;dust.and quot;

    Houle's Plumbing, Heaitng & Air Conditioning
    The service desk informed me that it would cost $75/hour for them to come and LOOK at the problem. This rate would be charged starting when they "left the door" of their place and drove over to my place. They wanted me to pay $75 up front on the phone before they even provided an ESTIMATE! That's crazy. Needless to say, I did not use their service.

    The two plumbers who performed the work were accomplished and hardworking. All work and estimates were accurate timely and done according to my wishes. I will hire them again in a heartbeat and feel fortunate to have found a good plumber in my new hometown.
