Fence Company reviews in South Portland

    Fence Tech LLC
My wife and I had a need for a privacy fence installed around the backyard of our house (surrounding the back half of our lot).  We were looking for noise and visual isolation (privacy) for us and our two dogs. We wanted the fence to stand up to the elements, look good, and last a long time- all with as little upkeep as possible.  Oh, it also had to stay within our very tight budget.  A lot to ask for, for sure.
Note: I do a lot of research before beginning a project, especially one that costs as much as a fence does. Before getting to the point of asking for quotes, I had already determined that we were most likely to go with vinyl (unless the price was too high), the best vinyl products available in my area, as well as all the reputable fence installers near me.  Due to circumstances around our particular backyard (ledge, serious slope), I knew that we'd not be able to do the fence installation ourselves.
For all the fence companies from whom I got estimates, I asked the necessary questions and tried to discuss fences in general with their on-site representatives.  I did this to gauge their overall knowledge about vinyl fencing.  Vinyl isn't as popular where I live. Partly because of that, it's amazing how different products are represented, as well as the differing techniques for vinyl post installation (concrete for 6 inches, concrete for 3 inches, no concrete, only use specific type of concrete, wood reinforcement in gate posts, etc). Essentially, what's best is really based on the needs of your specific situation (type of soil, size and weight of gate, etc etc). One-solution-fits-all doesn't work with fencing.
I called to the better-known local fence installers in my town, and got three quotes. One local outfit sold the best product (the one I had identified), but gave a price for the product and installation I knew was way too high.  Another sold a different product, and in the end, was not very knowledgeable about vinyl fence products or installations in general. (They were the cheapest quote.) The third quote was from a big box store.  Their product was not as good, installation was the highest of the three, and I didn't feel too great about their installation approach.
I realized I needed to cast a wider net.  Just because we have fence installers that are based out of my town, or the town next-over, doesn't mean I need to go with them... I got two more quotes, and one was from FenceTech.
Mike from FenceTech came out promptly to do a walk-around for our quote.  He walked me and my wife through our options, and what his team would do. He had a friendly manner, and answered my questions with patience and professionalism. We both had a good feeling about him, but had decided he'd come in too high in price. The product he was offering was the middle-tier in the line of vinyl fencing I liked. It was utilitarian- quality, but not flashy.  Even so, we were surprised when the quote came in as low as it did.  I called him, discussed it, and made sure we were all on the same page.
One thing I will note at this time, is that every single fence installer I called said my town did not require permits for fence installation.  They do.  Always ask your town's planning or code enforcement departments if you need a permit for work you'll be doing.
    Ordering & Installation-
Because of the delay of the permitting process, and other factors, we had to wait about a month before moving forward with the quote.  During this time, I had multiple opportunities to speak with Mike and the other co-owner of FenceTech, Corey.  At all times, they were friendly and professional.  Finally, we were able to move forward.  I placed the order, and scheduled a time about 1.5 weeks later for them to begin installation.
Everything went smoothly.  Mike's team was prepared to deal with the property-specific issues we had. They did quality work, did not leave a mess behind (a couple spots of vinyl shavings from where cuts in the fencing were made, but it was obvious there was even an attempt to clean the majority of that up).
Mike called me a couple days after they were done to follow-up and make sure I didn't have any questions.  He told me that if a problem arose, to just call him, and he'd take care of it. When the invoice came, it matched the estimate from the initial consult.
The fence looks great, and we feel secure in it being here, (and continuing to look great), for many years to come.  FenceTech does not seem to be out to make a quick buck. They seem to be a company that wants customers for life.  If this level of service keeps up, they've got it.

    Hired Hands
Mike cam as promised and finished on time.  He had to do more on the plumbing than originally expected, but he kept us informed of the progress (since the water had to be turned off) and finished the job as quickly as possible.  Very good work from a nice gentleman.

    Hired Hands
Great job and a very fair price for all the labor involved digging post holes, etc.  The job required a couple of days and Mike was always came as promised and performed to his excellent service reputation.  The best part is Mike made some suggestions that saved me money and made lots of sense.

We had Anchor come to the house in 2014 and received an approximate estimate at the site visit. We anticipated that one would arrive via email but it didn't arrive - at that time we decided to put off the fence anyway. We called in April 2015 to see if we could have them come back and provide a formal estimate. It took a few weeks to have the site visit due to the busy season. Site visit occured in mid-May and we put down roughly 1/2 of the estimate. We were told it would take 4-6 weeks and I did call at the 5 week mark to see where we were with scheduling. They scheduled us for 6/25 and arrived promptly with Matt who gave the crew directions of what the job entailed. Both workers were professional and took any removed soil/ debris to an area we designated using a wheelbarrow they brought to the site. We were on hand during the install in case questions came up. It looks amazing and we couldn't be happier. Our property line "zigs" a little and they were all over it. Highly recommend!

Burns fencing put up a new white cedar stockade fence for my backyard.  They were prompt, professional and the cost was competitive.  They removed the old fencing quickly and cleaned up afterward.  The fence is beautiful and the use of metal postings will work great as my backyard tends to be wet.  I would highly recommend Burns Fencing.

    Horizon Fence
The fence is sturdy and beautiful.  Horizon Fence Company made this fence which I chose for aesthetic value as well as ability for it to last without much, if any, maintenance.   The owner was responsive throughout and courteous, made an appointment to measure and show pictures of offered styles.  Horizon was competitve in pricing (obtained more than one quote), and up front about expected timing before the fence would be installed.  The company wanted a deposit (approximately 1/3 of cost), but did not require the balance of payment until the job was complete, as the owner communicated he wanted the customer to be happy.  Horizon also directed me to make sure there were no underground obstacles with the proper utilities.  The price was not inexpensive, but the cost was in line with what is paid for the material and quality of work - appreciated the personalized touches such as an estate rail option.  When placing the fence, they inquired how I wanted it to look when placement complete.  It is a beautiful fence, all who have seen it agree.  Right away friends and neighbors commented how great it looks.  I am very pleased with it and it adds to the property.

Burns' Fencing Inc's job was great. They did the job perfectly and we were pleased with them. They were professional, on time and did quality work. They do little extras if you ask them, such as removing dead branches or stones near the fence they're working on. They left everything looking nice and clean. Their price was reasonable considering the quality of the material and work. You can see by the way they work that they know what they were doing. When they ran into some issue, such as fitting new fence with older one, they just took care of it in no time. They did the work in 2 days, 5 guys with who worked well together; it's a family business. It was all worth it. When I made inquiry by phone, they gave me a better impression that other providers.

They came by and gave me a quote for my fence, on time and super nice. It was a little bit outside of my budget so I did not end up getting the fence but I would consider using them in the future!

I called and he made an appt with me, about 4 days later he came by to measure the yard and we talked fences, he talked about the space and what would work well. I received quotes from a couple of other places. They weren't the least expensive but the customer service was great. The fence should be installed in about 2 weeks.

Jack of All Trades Home Services
He has been amazing. He is hard to come by because he is busy but he is worth it. His prices are good. He is thorough and reliable. He seems like a general good guy. I would highly recommend him and I would definitely use him again.
