Door Installation reviews in South Portland

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Gary did amazing work. He determined what wasn't working with the new locks quickly and easily. He took extra steps to make sure the door fit better. In addition, he walked me through some steps around making another door actually stay shut. As a new home owner I was appreciative of him showing me what he was doing so I could do that on my own when it happens in the future. Gary's price was also very reasonable and he made it easy to schedule an appointment quickly.

  • Jim did everything possible to accommodate my concerns as the project progressed. The house had old leaded-class windows from the 1920s. HEoM workers worked with me to retain the old windows (which I was simultaneously restoring in the garage) by fitting energy-efficient picture windows behind them on the outside. Jim searched around for exactly the kind of porch-skirting and extra-long siding that we wanted. He coordinated work with an electrician and me as we installed pipes and wiring for a central-vacuum unit at the brief time while sheathing was exposed but before Tyvek and siding went up. We also coordinated installation of downspouts with my work on drain tiles and catch basins. And Tim and John (the first-rate siding team that Jim contracted) thoughtfully notified me of cavities behind the house's sheathing that had no insulation, giving me time to stuff some back there before all was covered up again with new vinyl siding. Andy Davis is the foreman at HEoM, and is the most gentle, unflappable, highly-skilled home contractor that I have ever met. Their usual way of insulating replacement windows had been with fiberglass. However, when I asked that they use foam insulation instead, the immediate response was, “Of course!” (My recommendation is that others do the same with any contractor, given that it results in a tighter, quieter house.) As always, HEoM workmen kept communicating with us as our wishes evolved during the course of the project. HEoM is best know for its work in seamless gutters. Prior gutter work on the house had been done in a way that at one point channeled water under roof shingles and that placed a downspout behind a porch's center columns. Jim came up with elegant solutions to these problems, and did so in a cost-effective way that did not require replacement of all our gutters--solutions that retained the original gutter style but with downspout color that matched our new siding. Such “consciousness of detail” was evident at all times during the project. For example, one of the siders suggested that a strip of PVC moulding would add to the porch's appearance. We took his advice, and could not be happier. The unknown truth about HEoM is that the company has professional skills far beyond gutters and windows. In fact, if I were to be thinking about building a house, Jim would be the first person I would speak with. Oh, yes. And they stand behind their work! A window sash and 4 screens were replaced no-questions-asked, when we noted damage. They repaired a strip of vinyl siding that had cracked after the first winter, and then over a year later Andy fixed a replacement window that was malfunctioning. Each time their response was immediate!

I purchased this deal for my daughter...
she told me he was punctual, professional, personable, and very efficient (and also good at communicating):
    My daughter set up work-times for her days off; Matthew let her know he was running a few minutes late (and she said it was only minutes);
he worked with a partner - they were both personable, and very careful - kept the work area clean; worked efficiently - each had a specific role, and were done quickly.
She couldn't be more pleased with the work - and so, so am I!

  • -Removed sagging 6? x 17? enclosed porch and disposed of all
debris. Everything except the porch floor was removed on day #1.
-Concrete work: installed four 10? diameter sauna tubes and
shored up the bulkhead walls using poured concrete and structured steel.
-Built 6?x 17? addition. Installed 1 exterior door with a
deadbolt lock, 1 very solid storm door, and 6 Low -E vinyl insulated windows
(made in Maine). Exterior siding matches the house, the addition is fully
insulated, sheetrocked, trimmed, and completely finished. Painting was not
included. They installed a combination of tile and bamboo flooring.
We purchased the tile and bamboo.
-On the addition: they ran wiring and installed 3 lighting
fixtures: 2 interior and 1 exterior. We purchased the lights. They installed 3
outlets, and one double switch. They built entryway steps on the addition,
built entryway steps on the front of the house. They built a solid wood
covering over the bulkhead with siding to match the house, doors over the
entryway, and a bolt that latches inside the bulkhead doors. They repaired the
door into the basement. They also installed an exterior light on the front of
the house.  We purchased the light. They
installed flashing on the roof of the main part of the house to minimize ice
dams that form in that spot.
At no point in time were we concerned about the quality of
the work. Several times, Dennis said,? if anything goes wrong, let us know,
we?ll fix it?. We would hire A&D again in a heartbeat.

  • We called Bill and spoke with him about our need to replace exterior entry doors on our garage.  He explained he was very booked up but still managed a way to work us in.  He picked up our doors on his way to our house and arrived on time. He then discovered we had rotted sills and part of a lower door frame was rotted also.  He gladly replaced them with brand new wood.  He pays excellent attention to details like this one that could have been overlooked and turned into a bigger problem in the future.  He also looks at the big picture when it comes to keeping water out of Maine homes and common problems with local homes.  Took the time to talk to us about other problems we needed addressed around the house.  I am VERY excited with my new doors!  They look great and we are very happy and very pleased with his work.
We were more than satisfied with everything, Bill was polite and extremely helpful and showed us his insurance right away.  He is a great, trustworthy person and we look forward to having him back in the spring to do our front door as well, and will continue to call him in the future for anything we need done.
    Sincerely,
    Mike and Jane

  • We were given a date of delivery of products. All came on that date. We were given a starting date and approximate finish, but, they started and finished right on dates. The men were respectful of all our property. The finished product was beautiful and the price was the price. We had already used them once before on another home seven years ago.

  • Devin of Marshall Home Pros did exactly what I asked him to do.    He replaced the door and took the old one away for me.

He responded to my email right away and the work was done within a week.

  • This past winter was my first in a 60-year-old small ranch house. The vinyl windows formed heavy condensation and allowed in lots of cold air. The french doors opening onto a deck dripped condensation with the bottom glass icing over. I had towels at the door all winter to collect the water.
A friend at work referred me to Hour Glass which had provided a solution for her three season porch windows. I stopped into their store and they promptly scheduled a home visit. Dan Libby came by a day or two later and explained that the glass in my windows was clear glass and poorly sealed. We discussed replacement windows. He offered three different solutions for the french door. He was very knowledgeable and easy to work with and I appreciated his offering a lower cost solution. His measurements were ultimately spot on.
Rather than replacing all of the windows which were, for the most part, in good shape, I chose to replace just the glass with low E glass and new sealant. I hadn't known until then that that glass replacement was even an option. The work was completed 10 days later in a little over two hours by two pleasant and very efficient gentleman. They also repaired the mechanics on two of the windows and replaced the locks on one.
I am thrilled with the outcome. There is no condensation at the 5 windows and my house is definitely warmer. The french door window replacement is perfect. Although it's early in the winter heating season, I am very optimistic that this was a great solution that will save on heating costs and worry this year.
    I absolutely recommend Hour Glass!

  • Bruce Timberlake is very skilled, takes pride in his work and picks up after himself. He's in demand but he is worth the wait. He is very knowledgeable and always come up with simple and affordable solutions. If he sees something that needs attention, he lets you know. His pricing is very reasonable.

  • During the first two weeks when Bob had his crew everything was quality work done quickly. After his crew walked out on him, everything went down hill. Because of the amount I had invested in the project, I kept quiet for the most part because I didn't want him walking out on me, which he appears to have done anyway. This was to be a 3 week project that has lasted 4 months. His indoor work was far less than acceptable. Never trust a portfolio - call and get references!
