  • We rented storage lockers at this facility for several years and were fairly happy with their service.  Last April however, when I was in one of our lockers I noticed that our rolled up rugs had moths on them.  I went and reported it right away and I left the key with them so that they could go in and look at it.  A few days later I received a call from the manager stating that they were fairly sure the moths originated from our locker and that they wanted us to move out of both our units.  He said "I know it's kind of like someone telling you your kid has lice."  He was trying to be nice and very apologetic but he rambled on for a very long time.  We would've preferred something like "I'm sorry, you have to leave.  Our policy is to dismiss anyone found to have pests in their locker, but we'd like to help you set up a new locker at another facility."  They didn't give us very long to find another storage place, but they did pay for movers to come and they did pay the first month of storage at the new place.  (The new place actually turned out to be much nicer, was closer to us, and cheaper overall so we were actually thrilled about this--plus it offered 24/7 access to belongings--something Access did not offer).  Anyway, we were disappointed that they didn't work with us considering that we'd been good customers for years there. We offered to remove the rugs and not store them, and to remove any linens or clothing items as well but they weren't interested.
My husband and I don't believe that the moths originated with us.  Our rugs were in there for years and if they'd had moth eggs in there originally they would've shown up before April of 2012.  Also, we had a few more rugs at our house that had been stored just as long (both upstairs and downstairs) and we checked those and there were no moths on those.  We've never had moths on any of our items at home.  Also, the pattern of moth presence on the rugs seemed to indicate that they'd originated outside because they were eaten around the edges and near the outer rolled up layers.
They mentioned to us that they'd had moths before, and we'd smelled mothball type materials there in the past.  The manager was very apologetic and said maybe that somehow we could do business in the future, but obviously we won't go back there.  We didn't shop around enough prior to signing up at Access, but I think if we did we would've chosen our new storage facility over this one, so my advice is to shop around and see what else is out there.  We were also left having to pay for the rug cleaning, which was disappointing.  My husband and I think that, perhaps, if other people complain about moths that they can tell them they originated from us and that they evicted us, so that it sounds like they've been pro-active in taking care of the problem.  I obviously can't say for sure that the moths didn't originate from us, but again, we've never had moths and all of the linens and other items I've stored at home are free and clear of moths, so only the items that were in storage were affected.
