    SUNTAR'S KENNELS
My husband and I adopted a dog last week.  We have been attempting to keep this highly energetic bundle of joy's stress level to a minimum but he needed a bath desperately.  We thought it over and decided that we needed to get him acclimated to new places and understand that we will be back to get him.  It was also decided that to attempt to give this 55 pound baby a bath in our home might be as stressful on us as it would be for him.  Let's use professionals.
I checked the websites of many groomers and wasn't overly enthused.  We had just had our first veterinary visit the day before and we did not feel any "warm and fuzzes" from the vet.  I don't like that.  If you are working with animals, you need to show that you love them. We will not be using the vet again and I wanted to ensure that the groomer was going to be a positive experience for one of us, anyhow.
I basically interviewed the groomers over the phone.  Lucky for me, I reached Nadia, the owner of Suntar's Kennels.  Oh my gosh... I felt how positive this place is and her passion for animals over the phone.  We spoke for quite a long time about dog adoptions and she made a great statement about dog adoptions.  (She also has an adopted family member).  I told her about our experience at the dog shelter and how we never intended to go to the shelter on the day that we did.  We were going for a car wash!  Seriously!  We ended up at the Kennebunk Animal Shelter instead - but that is another long story.
So we found our "Max" at the shelter and I explained how the dog reacted to us.  Nadia said that she believed our animals should come to us.  Our fellow came into our lives at the time he was meant to.  Our dogs (and cats, etc) will come into our lives and not the other way around.  Perhaps I am not explaining this as well as she, but she certainly has a spiritual connection.  I felt her passion and knew instantly that I hit on the right place.
She made me feel at ease on the phone and I was able to bring Max in the next morning.  Nadia was on her day off but we got to meet the staff.  My husband was even more stressed out than the dog!!  By the time we drove off, he knew that we had made the right choice.
The staff met us with smiles and showed immediate interest in our energetic 55 lb. boy.  They were curious as to his breed (who knows what that is!) and they are very familiar with shelter dogs personalities.  Basically, they showed immediate interest in Max and made him feel at home, too.
A couple of hours later, Angela, the groomer called me.  (Sorry if I got your name wrong but the entire staff is fantastic!)  She informed me that Max did great and he was ready.  Angela met me when i arrived and told me about Max's skin condition (dry skin) and offered solutions that might help.  She spent time with me and explained the differences of foods, etc.  We think his condition has been caused by a lot of stress as he was from Georgia and Paws Across America had transported him here to Maine.  Poor baby!
Angela was very kind and suggested that we wait before changing his diet as he has been through so much within the last month or so. So we will wait and probably begin him on the diet she suggested.  We think a raw diet might just be the answer to get his coat back to normal but we can't rush it.
I can guarantee that Max will be returning to Suntar's Kennels for his baths, and whatever else he might need in the future.  There is a great mix of staff there and you just feel their love for animals from the first time you meet them.

    YORK COUNTY VETERINARY HOSPITAL
Although I arrived late, the office staff were gracious.  Since there wasn't an available exam room, two veterinary technicians took my dog, Max, into the lab area to gave him his routine shots.  They reported he barely reacted to the shots.  Since Max loves attention from anyone, especially if they have treats, I did not doubt it was an easy experience for him.
By then an exam room was available, and Dr. Temm, the veterinarian began the physical.  He treated Max as carefully as if he were his own.  He won Max's trust in no time at all.  He even warned me to step back when Max began to growl while his ears were examined.  Then he proceeded with Max's cooperation, (I was impressed!)
He found Max had an ear infection, Dr. Temm showed me the inside of Max's ear, pointing out trouble spots and prescribed an antifungal medication and an antiseptic.  Armed with new knowledge, I gradually became more proficient and Max more relaxed when his eared were cleaned at home :o)

    PAW-ZN-AROUND
When we picked up Max, he had exactly the cut we had asked for.  With shorter hair we could see his face and body language, and his curls had become little ringlets.  The best compliment of their work was made by our eleven year old neighbor, Kyle, when he saw Max, He declared, "Hey, Max has a great new haircut!"
There are strong opinions in the dog grooming world, Max has reappeared as an imitation poodle on more than one occasion.  We really appreciated that the Paw-Zn-Around groomers followed our instruction to a "T" and it suits him perfectly.

    ANIMAL HOSPITAL-SOUTH GORHAM
I have never had a bad experience with either of the vets at this clinic although I have had very sick pets that they have helped me to care for. This experience was no different.  Dr Neidermeyer very patiently answered all of my questions and helped me to care for my dog.  He gave her a very thorough examination and I am extremely pleased with the service that I received.

    Biddeford Animal Hospital
$400 for a sugery that didn't happen- total rip off.  I had pre-paid for half the cost of the surgery and on the morning of the surgery, Dr determined that my dog did not actually need the surgery.  Instead of calling me to allow me to determine next steps, they sedated my dog for xrays so they could keep a majority of my pre-payment.  I was willing to pay something, but I did not find this fair or reasonable- I spoke with the Dr and the business manager to no avail.  I wish I had not pre-paid with cash.  I asked for my dog's records- we will find a new vet.

Everyone in the clinic is very nice and professional. They go out of their way to explain exactly what is going on with your pet and I have had very weird issues to deal with. They have always made me comfortable (and my pet) and took the time to make sure that I was satisfied with my pet's condition and always follow up including calling my home to make sure my pet is still ok. They are further from my home than other vets but they are worth going out of the way for.
