    A co-worker highly recommended Doug from WF who I called for a quote to replace my oil fired warm air furnace with the goal of using natural gas where it is going to be available to me this heating season. Doug was prompt in replying, setting up a visit, providing professional answers to all my questions as well as a very prompt quote. After dealing with multiple vendors and changing the scope of the project Doug updated his quote a few times so that I was able to make an intelligent choice between vendors. Although Winthrop Fuel was not the least expensive it was obvious to me that they were the most responsive and willing to provide a propane furnace KNOWING I was going to change to natural gas in the near future. Others fought me and tried to sway me to use propane more aggressively than I appreciated. Doug did suggest I stay with propane but I know his experience told him my mind was set. I really respect all of his opinions. The crew, Matt and Justin, did a great job. They guys answered my questions along the way and it was a complete pleasure having them working on my project. A few other Winthrop Fuel employees stopped in with deliveries and they were all polite and professional. Winthrop Fuel will have my service work each year for sure!

    We have used Thompson's Fuel as our normal fuel service as well as having them install heating in a major remodeling project, and, most recently, in replacing our old boiler with a more efficient propane boiler.  In both cases the Thompsons team consisted of Hank, Nick, and Rob.  You couldn't ask for better people.  They were prompt, knowledgeable, courteous, and very aware of the disruption this remodeling and replacement were putting us through.  You are in good hands with Thompson's and that sterling crew

    The quality of work done was very poor.  They drilled holes in the generator to mount the regulator and the door could not be opened.  When I called about that they said "everyone makes mistakes". And they did lower the regulator which had scratched the generator case.  The piping job looks terrible and the flexible piping provided by the generator company was not installed (code issue) . i contacted the state inspector and the code issues have just been resolved. My neighbor  had the same work done by another company for half of what I was charged (the service line was 10' shorter than mine) Also, just prior to the installation a rep from Pen Bay Oil appeared unannounced, and said he was here to inspect my oil tank.   I said I did not want it inspected but he said it was part of the program.  I was busy so I said okay.  The next day I got an invoice for $85.   I refused to pay it and they have dropped that charge.

    From the get go our contractor had trouble getting answers regarding pre install work that he needed to done in preparation for the system.  The install was started back around June 23 and was just completed last week October 1.  Our contract with Fabian stated it would take about 2 weeks.   During the installation we arrived at the house the end of August to find duct work running across stairways, running below the tops of windows, across a doorway and set to run where it would inhibit a door from opening.  Immediately we spoke to install crew,  our contractor and contacted rep at Fabian. We meet and explained that this was not acceptable to which they replyed by bringing duct consultant back in and moving duct work that was across stairway, doorway and entryway compromise was made to leave duct that was set below window top.  It was about a week and a half before we saw another workman on site. Other issues we encountered: having to remove drywall because propane fireplace lines were not run, burning new siding and a/c pad while hooking up outside a/c unit and leaving duct work not completely closed.  This is only what I can remember off the top of my head The job was finally completed almost 3 months after being started the first week of October the installer came picked up whatever material he could fit in his truck and left everything else in the cellar.  We came to close down and winterize the house and received a bill from our contractor for cleaning up what Fabian had left behind. Then to top it off we received a bill in the mail for about $4000.00 more then our contracted price for the job.  Paid what we owed according to our contract and are ready to take our case to court if they press.  I don't know if the fact that we are not from the area contributed to our problems but I would hope not since we went out of our way to use all local contractors to help the local economy.

    Horrible customer service. Called week in advance to get fuel delivery as we were getting low. said they would be out on specific date that week. we called every day to make sure they were coming out as fuel was real low. kept saying yes they would be out. Came home late one night about 11 pm with kids same day fuel was to be delivered. Saw that no fuel had been delivered and it was a cold winter night and we needed to take showers. Called the company same night, lady who answered (owners wife) was very very rude. She questioned our parenting because we were bringing our kids home late at night (we were at a hockey game in another city and they were high schoolers) told us we were out of luck and would have to wait till next business day (it was either a Friday or Saturday night). Husband was very angry with the lady's rudeness and told her she better send someone out right then and there to deliver fuel. She proceeded to tell him she wasn't going to and husband told her to check her info and she would see we had been calling every day to make sure they were delivering and was assured they would. She had spent the entire time arguing with my husband without even looking up our account information. Finally she got off her butt and went down and looked at account info and saw that we had been calling all week but they had us scheduled for the following week. The sales lady we had been dealing with all week failed to record the info. So after all the rudeness and her finally realizing we were right and she was wrong they sent someone out. We told her for her screw up and her rudeness she should reduce the bill or eat the cost since they only delivered a certain amount and said wed get the rest on scheduled date.  We were hesitant to use the company in the first place because we had heard negative stuff but since we had moved here from a mother state we gave them the benefit of the doubt as sometimes customers get angry and say bad stuff when it is the customers fault. Guess the old customers were right. I have never been questioned about my parenting and cannot believe this woman did so. Just rude !!!!

    AFC - Augusta Fuel Co.
    That was a miserable service from AFC - Augusta Fuel Co. They came and my furnace went down and they took week to get it done. I called them at 9AM in the morning and they arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon and I have a three year old and it was 9 degrees outside and the emission went down below. The technicians that they have are very nice and that is not their fault. It is just that the direction is a lack of people of knowledge and working with people is not their fore thing. They came in three times to fix pretty well the similar problem and then the technician mentioned the other one for that dummy, it is over priced I would say for the service. I cannot say that the service from the technician was bad; they were very polite and professional.
