  • The kind of good service I get from Lex Connection makes me feel like I'm back in the 1950's. These people are friendly, helpful, professional and most important honest. They take good care of me and my Toyotas. Thank you Kevin.

  • The job went well...hit a few snags and took a little longer then they and us thought it wold...but they kept us in the loop on everything going on, and to be fair a couple of the snags were weather related due to 2 nor'easter back to back so understandable that they closed for the days, and one was a faulty part, but that happens in the mechanic world...but overall the price was more then fair, the customer service was great, they stayed withing the quote they gave me so it would be fair to say I would definitely go through them again and highly recommend them if you want good work at a reasonable price

  •  Very professional and helpful. You end up confident car is well taken care of. Good explanation of what they are going to do and the reasons behind it. Does take a long time to get an appointment but will try and fit you in for not so difficult problems.

  • They failed me. They told me I needed a lot of work done. I asked them to write it up for me and I would go to a local guy and they said that they had to put a failed inspection sticker. They were prompt in trying to let me off. They could have been honest. Their price was very high. I wanted a sticker not a $1500 bill. The person acted professionally but was unethical. They are right beside my place but though they would give me a 10% discount I would not go there.

  • I bought my regular tires from there. I called up and got an appointment. I said I wanted to wait while the tire was being installed. It turned out to be 40 minutes. They were responsive. I bought my tires from them.

  • They only had one review (which was extraordinarily negative) at the Angie's List site. I did some other searching and found out that they had the best overall price. I bought it at a location different from the one that had a negative review and we didn't have any problems and they were fine. I bought it primarily because of the price and we didn't have any bad experience and the tires have been fine. They had little gimmicks and I know it makes some money but their overall products were pretty good. They were a little bit pushy about alignments and I don't like anybody trying to push me to do something. I came in to buy tires and not to do tire alignments.

  • I made an appointment in person on a Monday, but they could not fit me in until 4 days later. After leaving my car there at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, I phoned them at 2 p.m. and was told it was and quot;on the liftand quot; and they'd get back to me. When I phoned again 2 hours later, I was instructed to and quot;call back tomorrow and ask for Ryan.and quot; Around 9:30 a.m. on Friday I phoned and spoke with Ryan, who asked, and quot;what exactly is wrongand quot; with the car. My response was that it was no longer shifting smoothly into and out of and quot;Driveand quot;, and that I wanted to have the car checked out before the problem got worse. (I had explained this when I set up the appointment, so Ryan's emphasis here was on the word, and quot;exactly.and quot; Evidently he couldn't find much wrong.) I phoned back 5 hours later to see if they were done with the car (and if I would have it to use over the weekend). Yes, it was done. They had looked the transmission over, and taken the car out for a couple of test drives. Yet they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I was told, and quot; The transmission seems to be performing as one would expect from a car with 140,000 miles on it.and quot; My response was, and quot;Well, it seems that you've spent quite a while working on my car; what do I owe you?and quot; The answer, and quot;Nothing. Just come by any time and pick it up.and quot; Their checking my transmission was for free!
Regarding my scores above: My low and quot;responsivenessand quot; score is because New England Transmission NEVER phoned me about my car. Each phone call was from me to them (even when they said they would call). On the other hand, honesty goes a long way with me, and I would rather have an unresponsive honest mechanic than a responsive dishonest one. (Although they did not, they could easily have charged me for the hours they spent checking over my car.) My advice: If you have work done at New England Transmission in South Portland, Maine, be prepared to initiate all follow-up phone calls yourself. It is too early to know if I should rank them as competent. For example, if my transmission and quot;gave outand quot; tomorrow, I might conclude that they should have seen this coming. For this reason, I suspend judgment on the quality of their work (although I'll revise this review accordingly if my transmission's symptoms worsen soon). For now (other than regarding their lack of responsiveness), I only have positive things to say about New England Transmission.

  • When I first moved to the area a few years ago, I was apprehensive about finding a new mechanic. Auto repair professionals have a reputation (sometimes warranted) as being dishonest and shady, overcharging for needless services and rushing through work. I can confidently say this is not the case with Cumberland Ave Garage.
Whether I have dealt with Salem, the efficient and knowledgeable front desk/office admin or with Nick, the owner, I've always been provided with exemplary customer service. The staff has always taken the time to talk me through my options and set expectations as far as costs associated with service. Additionally, they often work to find me less expensive solves, letting me know if a specific issue is critical or if service can be put off or addressed in phases. The old adage and quot;you get what you pay forand quot; applies - labor cost is close to if not equal to what one would pay at a dealership. That said, I always feel that I've gotten an exceptional value at Cumberland Ave Garage as their focus on the customer is second to none.

  • They wanted too much $$$ to install the rims, my preferred shop would do it for less.
But VIP had the better price on the rims themselves, so I purchased them here. I bought four, got them to the other auto shop and realized that 1 of the 4 rims from VIP was the wrong one, 6 lugs instead of 5.
I spoke to them on the phone - I went back to the shop to swap them out - the manager wouldn't swap them without my receipt !!
-This was all in the course of a day, mind you. The salesman recognized me from the day before. It was their mistake, not mine, and the guy made me buy a 5th tire and go home and search for the receipt from the original 4.
Jerk is the only word for this place.

  • Went in on a Saturday and had exceptional service from everyone. They took the time to explain what I needed and a few different options. I had asked about what the service would be at 80,000 miles - they didn't have that on hand but sent me a letter with the info by the next Tuesday. I'll be coming back to buy snow tires from them.
