Eye Care reviews in Old Town

  • Met with Dr. Gilmore - very easy to talk with.  The session was very informative, concise, and efficient.  There were a couple of procedures that we discussed and put off (dilation, etc.) until I find a new primary care physician (I had just moved to the area).
I would definitely meet with her again when the need arises.
The only negative from the experience was that they don't accept the credit card that my company uses.

  • I have a challenging prescription - Dr. Hersey was very thorough and effective, wanting to "tweak" the prescription as close as possible. I would highly recommend his eye care practice. Dr. Hersey's practice is also known as Bangor Mall Eye Associates in Bangor. My treatment was at the Bangor Mall location.

  • I wanted a full eye exam performed, as I am eligible with my insurance to have one every two years. I made my appt at a satellite office, the week after I called. At the appt, the doctor joked around incessantly, which made me feel comfortable. However, he failed to explain anything that he was doing to my eyes. It was my first time visiting him so I wanted to make sure that everything got done as I wouldn't be able to go again for two years. I explained this to him in the beginning of the appt, along with my need to receive both my glasses and contacts prescriptions. I left that day with neither, as he 'didn't have the equipment to do the glasses prescription in that office' and would 'need my old contact boxes' to write a new prescription. He told me I'd have to come to his main office the next morning. He said he'd bill me from there as well (which I really didn't understand). Well, believe it or not but I had made this appt because I have a schedule that includes other things besides doctor's visits. I couldn't make it to his main office until the next week. When I got there he didn't even speak with me, just had his "girls" do some tests on my eyes with an auto-machine. He gave me sample contacts in my 'new' prescription before they had even tested my eyes with the machine, and then didn't test my eyes with the lenses in. On the way out he asked if I liked the contacts, to which I replied I did not, as they were a new material (very very soft and shapeless) which I did not like and the left obviously did not fit my eye as I was very conscious of a slight edge on the periphery of my vision. I compared the rx to my old one at home and saw that the axis, cylinder, base curve, and diameter measurements were all different for one of my eyes. I thought this may have contributed to the irregular fit. I thought about going back to discuss it, but thought it should have been addressed when I initially felt that the lenses did not fit well. I returned my prescriptions and told them I would like to null and void my visits, as I was not satisfied with the service. Additionally, the pupillary distance he gave without measuring, and they gave that only after I persistently requested it for a full eye glass prescription. They also did not test for glaucoma or the other tests such as color-blindness that are part of a comprehensive eye exam.
