  • Interacted very well with both cat and owner. Good communication. Discussed treatment options.  Answered all questions. Cat had previously been found to be allergic to med that would combat symptoms of hyperthyroidism.(the last vet did not even diagnose this condition. these vets found it immediately upon exam.)  Formulated a new treatment plan which was to offer food more often to accommodate the increased metabolism rate, try a high blood pressure med for a wk and report results.

A positive response would be that the cat would exhibit increased activity and appetite, and decreased heart rate. And, of course, to call if there were any problems.

The appt had been made that a.m. for the last slot of the day-5:30pm. And yet, the vet gave ample time for an unrushed and attentive visit. We have had several cats and tried several veterinary clinics over the years. We are most pleased with Falmouth. They go beyond expectations!

  • We have been very pleased with the Gray-New Gloucester Animal Hospital.  They have been there for us when our cat was suddenly ill and when we just needed to get him in for a checkup.  They have been willing to contact our previous veterinarian to get records and ask questions to help with treatment.

  • She is very reasonable on pricing but I don't know what other vets charge. She is very knowledgeable about proper animal care for large dog care. She has a good office group. They seem to understand animals and they are very good with my dog. I will absolutely continue to use her.

  • Dr. Rita is amazing. When Spook developed walking, circling problems, we had a different vet basically tell us to come back when we were ready to put Spook to sleep. But she still seemed like a very happy cat, so we couldn't give up on her. About a day later, Spook stopped peeing. We were sure we were going to lose her. We called countless vets trying to get someone to come to our house for a second opinion, rather than put a very nervous cat through another futile trip to see a vet. (and there was no way we were bringing her back to that vet.) Then we found Dr. Rita at Tender Touch. She drove 40 minutes out to see us. (We were more than happy to pay the house visit charge.) She reviewed the lousy quality xrays from the other vet in the light of our kitchen, and was able to identify things the other vet hadn't been able to. She put Spook over the sink and expressed her bladder - what a huge relief! She said she wouldn't write this kitty off just yet. So she gave us advice on how to keep Spook calm for a vet visit - which no vet we had ever been to had bothered to suggest and which worked perfectly! Dr. Rita sent us to a specialist for an ultrasound to rule out a couple of things including pyometra. They came back as ruled out, but based on other clues, Dr. Rita was still concerned about pyo. She very hesitantly suggested doing another xray in her office (since we had just done one at the other vet), and WOW are digital xrays different. You can really see things clearly, zoom in, forward them instantly to specialists. So cool. Sure enough, she found pyo, as well as a back problem likely causing the neurological symptoms - things that didn't show up on the crummy film xray. Since then Spook has successfully undergone surgery for pyometra, has her chronic ear problems under control via prescription ear drops (the other vet didn't even clean them), and is back to peeing on her own (2 drugs)! She has also gone blind from a sudden spike in blood pressure which she gets another drug for. And she is still a happy cat that purrs like crazy, bosses us around, and yells to be picked up. Dr. Rita is not only very knowledgeable, she is compassionate (both to owners and pets) and gentle. Although we are lucky enough to be able to afford all of the care Spook has needed, Dr Rita was very clear about costs and was obviously willing to work with us to try and make Spook comfortable even if we couldn't afford some of the things we tried. She is not going to be judgemental if someone just can't afford something. We were allowed into the back often, without notice, and can say that all the staff is incredibly caring to all the pets in their care. We never witnessed anybody becoming impatient with an uncooperative or noisy animal. I can also say we've met some really nice pet owners there too. And all of the ones we've talked to are kind of in awe of Dr. Rita. We've mostly seen dogs and cats there, but also birds, and once even a hamster. I am so thankful we found Dr. Rita and Tender Touch. So far, we have gained 6 more quality months with our cat that we didn't expect to get. We happily drive the 40 minutes to see her, and will not consider any other vet.
