  • We contracted for 8 hours, or thought we did but since they never provided us with a contract so who knows.  After about 5 hours I got a phone call from a sales person telling me they had to wrap it up but he gave me no reason for that even though the person in charge of the move told me the crew was supposed to be there for the full day.  At any rate, they left after 6 hours of work.  While we were far more disorganized than anticipated which was totally our fault, had they worked the full 8 hours all would have been fine. And every time I spoke with the movers they assured me that they had seen worse. The pricing exceeded our expectations and quote by over $300, but I considered that okay given the additional work they kept insisting we had asked them to do.  However, in looking over the list of items we sent them, and the list they said they received but I never received a copy of in spite of my requests, they should not have been surprised at all.  As part of the original moving agreement we asked them to put some items in our barn with the plan to move them back to the house when the floors in our old house were done.  They put the wrong items in the barn in spite of telling them over and over exactly which items went to the barn.  They forgot so many boxes and pieces of furniture in the house that we had to make multiple trips to retrieve them.  Again, had they stayed for the full 8 hours this problem wouldn't have existed.
    When I made the initial booking we discussed their moving things from the barn to the house after the floors were done so that the house could be staged.  It was clear that the date of July 27th may have to be changed depending on how the refinishing proceeded and they stated that this was fine and confirmed this lack of certainty on July 20th. On July 24th I called to change the date as the floors would not be dry until the 29th.  I was told by someone I had never spoken to  that because I didn't give 7 days notice I would have to forfeit my deposit.  I tried to explain that this job was rolled into the previous one and there was no deposit on it but he insisted that without 7 days notice my deposit would be forfeited.  This was at least the 4th time Local Muscle Movers had changed the information they originally gave me so in my frustration I cancelled any further work with them.
    I would not recommend them at all. Ever.  For anything.

  • We've moved five times in the past five years an usually we do it all ourselves. The last time we hired a moving company, we felt like we paid a huge sum of money for a service that wasn't all that good. I wish we'd called Local Muscle and we will certainly do so for any future moves. Local Muscle provided a quote for us based on the online form we filled out and a phone conversation. They decided that sending 3 crew members would be the most efficient and cost effective way to go.



    I have never seen a moving crew work so quickly! After doing a walkthrough of the house, they began loading things into the truck and were finished in less than an hour. The crew checked (and double checked) with us to be sure they had loaded everything we wanted them to. They unloaded at the new house very quickly. They managed to get our 190 pound mattress upstairs and through a tiny bedroom door. They were careful with our furniture & boxed items. They finished the move under time and under budget.



    One note: Yarmouth/Freeport is outside of their area, so they charged $25 per crew member. They were clear about that from our first phone conversation and even with that fee their rates are quite reasonable. I highly recommend Local Muscle!!

  • The initial visit by the company representative for an estimate was excellent. He was very professional and the quote was the best we received. The packing and loading was done well, but we were a bit rushed at the end and we did not receive a copy of the final paperwork. There was a miscommunication about the delivery date that caused a big problem for us on the receiving end. We had about a week that we were forced to wait for all our belongings. When we tried to resolve this issue, no one took responsibility or made an effort to contact the driver to come up with a solution. As it turns out, this could have been accomplished as he was in the area for a number of days prior to our delivery. The most unacceptable part of the experience was our interaction with the driver. When he arrived at our home, he was angry with us because our new home is in an area that is not accessible with a large truck. He was convinced that he was not going to be able to get up our road with the smaller shuttle truck and lashed out at us, saying that it was our responsibility to inform him and that it should have been a "common sense" understanding on our part to know the size of the company shuttle truck and that it could not negotiate the road. Even though this is a national company and he had been in touch with the local representatives (and had one of the local staff with him to help with the unloading), he kept arguing with us and repeating that it was our responsibility to know what size truck he should have used as a shuttle. The local staffer intervened and ultimately helped him get the truck up the road. Again, this is a national company so we assumed that staff from the Maine office would have talked to staff from the local office and received information about our neighborhood so that they would know in advance what kind of shuttle was required. As they did not, we had an unexpected charge for a shuttle and had to deal with the extremely unprofessional behavior of their driver. When we called to complain about the unprofessional and abusive behavior of the driver, the staff from Noyes were sympathetic but ultimately did nothing about it. We spent a lot of money on this move and I think that the prolonged wait and the driver's behavior that we experienced deserved some sort of formal response from the company. If they were not willing to compensate us in some way, a formal letter from the company with an action plan to resolve issues like these would have been appreciated. Based on their inability or unwillingness to address either the delivery date issue or the extreme rudeness of the driver, we would not use their services again.
