  • We originally had Downeast Glass repair a ding in ourwindshield, with the hope that the ding would not expand into a crack. The cost was $55.00. Various glass companies advertise on TV that this is why you should have a ding repaired. Two weeks after the repair was done the ding expanded into a 4and quot; crack. Now we needed to replace the windshield. My wife had called Downeast 2 days after the ding was repaired, stating that she thought the repair may not have been done properly, since she could still see the ding quite clearly. (She had several past experiences where dings were repaired and the repair did not allow the ding to show anymore.) Downeast told her not to worry , since not all proper repairs cause the ding to disappear. Besides, she was told, we had a lifetime guarantee on the repair. What we thought this meant is that if the repair failed, they'd replace the windshield at no cost to us. We were wrong. What it meant, if we had read the guarantee on their web site, is that they'd credit back the $55.00 towards the cost of a new windshield. When I called to make the appointment for a new windshield, we were given the information about the cost to us and the credit. I truly don't remember the office telling me what the repair guarantee was when we made the initial appointment, and I truly don't remember the technician telling me what the repair guarantee was the day he did the repair.
The first contact I had back with Downeast was an email via Angie's List. I waited a week for a response from Downeast and did not receive one. I then contacted Brian Cundiff at Downeast directly, by email, and he called me the following morning. We had a pleasant discussion, I apologized for my misunderstanding of the guarantee, and he vowed that he wanted us to be happy and satisfied, so he would replace the windshield at no charge. He asked me to put in an insurance claim and then put me in touch with one of his office people who brought me into a conference call with my insurance company so that Downeast would have all the pertinent information. On Tuesday, May 13th, a Downeast technician came out and replaced the windshield. It now remains to be seen if I will be receiving a bill from anyone. I am under the impression, from Brian, that I will not.
