  • I called up Haslam's, as they are the only Lamoine-based septic service, and was not disappointed! I was able to schedule a next day pumping as long as the cover was dug up. When Bob Merchant arrived, he also took a look at our outlet baffle and said "no problem." Within 30 minutes, the tank was pumped, a new outlet baffle was installed and we were good to go. I was very happy because I thought this would require an additional service visit. The cost for the repair was minimal and I will certainly call Bob again if I had any septic issues in the future. He explained to me that he does septic year round, and has an excavator for those necessary mid-winter septic pumps.

  • Came up to Maine to open up 3 camps, one had a leak in the underneath plumbing, it was the feed to the toilet.  This was the weekend of Memorial Day.  I have used ABM in the past but couldn't get an appointment until a week later, I needed it done sooner.  Using Angie's List, Tim's Plumbing was 3rd company I called, they were able to accommodate my short notice request.   I was told they'll send someone out Wednesday around 9 to 9:30AM. Two [younger than me] guys showed up right at 9AM, I give them an A for punctuality.  I showed them the area of leak loaning my mirror and LED flashlight so they could see the area of leak.  I would have fixit it myself (I've done plenty....) but chickened out on account of how tight the access was.  It required special effort (and time) only because the camp has settled over the years leaving ZERO crawlspace for access.  With my luck and Murphy's law governing my repairing career, It would not have gone well.  I have learn to recognize a snafu when I see it.  Fortunately the leak was close to foundation edge.  After moving stones, bricks and what dirt they could, it afforded just enough room to cut and replace the section with 'Pex (he had to use a shorty tubing cutter).  Pex is all I ever use for repairs since I discovered it, no more soldering or burst copper pipes!   The first attempt was unsuccessful, it was only then I $aw the first sign "we might have to cut the floor for access".  I was not present for the repair procedures. Another 20 or so minutes later, they  had it fixed, (no floor cutting).  They also replaced the feed petcock.  If two of them had a little trouble, one of me would have had a lot of it....  The actual repair was simple, getting to it was not.  The fix was worth $240 to me (the bill goes to the owner).

My ONLY complaint, and it is a minor one, they accidentally took my flashlight.  I'm sure it was unintentional.  He'll realize it at some point and feel bad about it.  But I would never expect him to drive back here for a $5 flashlight.

I will use Tim's plumbing again when I need.  I was impressed that they were able to accommodate on short notice immediately after a long holiday weekend) and they showed up when they said they would, that means a lot to me, especially in 'laid-back' Maine.

      2 thumbs up.

  • Since I was a new customer they required a credit card to charge 1 hour labor.  I saw this charge and no more bills or copy of work order until 11/13/14 when I got a bill for $377.94.  I didn't expect it to be that much, it appeared to be a simple fix to me.  $69 for a tub spout when I had priced them at Home Depot for under $20.  After showing the bill to a couple of people I guess it wasn't out of line but it sure was a shock.  I wasn't home when the plumber did the job, but he fixed the problems and left no sign of being there.  Other than price I'm very satisfied.  I'm just used to having someone that can do handyman jobs and hiring professionals can be shocking!

  • They were pretty good.  I had a couple problems with them but if you don’t stay on top of new construction people, you’re the one that’s going to suffer for it.  They finished the job when they said they would.  They worked with us in terms of the system we wanted to use and manipulated it so we could use both oil and wood-burning boilers.  They’re available off-hours which sometimes is convenient.  They are reliable.  I can’t say if they were reasonable because I only used them.
