They made me feel comfortable and took really good care of me. They gave me some medication to calm me down and the surgery took about 20 minutes. They were pretty fast and it worked for me. The procedure is less invasive than what was done in the past.

The office was built to be modern, vast, and nice, but it is not all utilized (like the snack bar that was built but is always vacant). I like that there is an on-site optical shop (it is pricey though). The staff are robotic in many ways in terms of bedside manner, yet they tend to run almost on time and give you lots of their attention and time once you are in an exam room. I have never felt rushed there. They have started a new thing of finding out if your insurance will cover new glasses, etc. before you actually go into the exam rooms. This might sound like they are  trying to sell you something you don't need, but it is helpful to know ahead of time what will and won't be covered. I have never felt pressured by any of their doctors to get a new script if mine is close, and the staff at the optical shop will print out a copy of your script for you to take elsewhere if needed. I have liked some of the doctors very much over the years, but they have had some doctor turnover due to personal reasons (doctors needing to relocate to be close to family, etc.) and some of the new doctors seem even more robotic than the staff. I am confident in their abilities, however. The major complaint about this practice is billing and administration. This practice practically will wrestle you to get your copay while you check out, even if you have secondary or supplemental insurance that covers copays. They want to take it now and have you ask for it back later when they get paid by your secondary. They also tend to not communicate well about how they are billing office visits versus rechecks for eye injuries, etc. so there is always a "copay surprise" at checkout. Their optical shop does not take some forms of Medicaid used by other shops around here. Note that they are quick to use bill collectors and high late fees on disputed copays even if you have notified them that they should bill a secondary insurance for copays. This is extremely distasteful and lowers their overall rating.   Overall, medical quality is good; billing is poor.

    Vision Care Of Maine I. I. C.
After the first surgery, I had only distance vision, which would have required the use of glasses for intermediate and near vision. When I complained, an 'enhancement' operation was provided to correct the situation. My vision was okay until I developed cataracts and had them removed in 2010. After this, I returned for another Lasik procedure to restore the level of vision I had prior to the cataract surgery. Remembering the mistake made in the first Lasik surgery, I asked the doctor to please make sure the right prescription was put in my eyes. Sure enough, the same mistake was repeated. So again, an 'enhancement' operation was provided to correct the situation. During this procedure, I experienced a sharp searing pain in my left eye just as the surgeon was finishing up. In the weeks to follow, I became aware during a post-op check that my surgeon was developing tremors. When I mentioned this to one of the exam doctors, I was told that BOTH of the surgeons at Vision Care were having similar problems - and they were searching for another surgeon to come in to perform Lasik at the facility! Well, they found one. He flies up from Texas periodically to do the surgeries at Vision Care. As soon as he took over, my health insurance company-who does not cover Lasik - began receiving bills from the facility.I was made aware that this doctor was attempting to falsify my eye condition and the cause for it in order to hide the post-Lasik mess and garner payment to boot!!
