  • He said he could do it in 3 months but it took over 6. He quit without finishing the job. He did very poor workmanship, uneven floors, badly finished drywall. He said window & door casements weren't included in his contract so I paid for the millwork & then paid him to install it, which was about $10,000 above the contract price. I should have fired him then & hired a different contractor for that but he still owed me other work at that time. Most casements weren't mitered well, several weren't nailed on well & a couple fell right off. He was supposed to install a handicapped stair lift, that was the first thing in the contract. I had the stair lift before he started the job & he measured it before he built the stairs, then quit & left without installing the lift. Before he started the job, I told him I also required a garage. After he put in the stairs, my car would not fit in the garage. I had the same car, 2008 Subaru Legacy sedan, when he started the job and parked in front of the job site while I lived with my daughter during the job. He tore out part of the basement wall & installed a wider garage door & then my small car would fit if I parked at an angle in the garage, an extremely tight fit. I texted him asking when he was going to do the stair lift & he texted back that the job was done. I hired Androscoggin Lift Co. & Reggie Ford installed the lift with a friend he said he'd been working with for many years. They had the lift installed in one day for a very reasonable price. Dave Brown did some remodeling work on the house I owned before I moved in with my daughter. That work seemed fine. I asked him if he wanted the job building the addition to my daughter's home. He wanted the job & said he could do it in 3 months. I believe he got in over his head and ran out of money. I had an inspection on my home done by a qualified home inspector & there are many faults. It is substandard construction.

  • Our project started in april and of course got a major rain delay,  But Jim was very detailed with the explaning what was going on and the progress as it went through.  The Foundation was the first thing poured and right away Jim saw that the floor was not perfect from the Sub contractor and immediately had it redone at no additional cost to us... once that process was completed then it was off to the framing and all of Jim Workers in the framing part were extremely clean, detailed and polite during that phase.  then we went to the electrical and plumbing side was the longest part,  it was a waiting game for the electrical guy to come back to complete,  the plumbing guy did a great job, extremely polite and clean about his job.  then it came to the wall boarding guys,, they were polite professional the only issue that we had with them was they tracked through the house the particals from the wall board,  lots of dust and debris tracked throug the home.  Then the detail side of it was wating for the Windows (special ordered windows) did not come out on time and it was an additional week delay.the siding on the outside of the house went extremely well, jim and his crew did  a great job finishing up with the match 100%. then the garage doors could not match the other doors so we were working with the builder to special order new doors or all three bays.,  however the doors came in the they look beautiful and complete..  we are extremely happy with the project and would definately recomend Jim Rice Custom Builders for any home project as he is a man that stands behind his work,

  • It was very smooth, from start to finish.  Carl's desire is to make others happy with what he does. He takes a personal interest in understanding what you want, and then delivering it.
