Cosmetic Surgery reviews in Upper Marlboro

    Michael Olding, MD
At my first appointment, I was not bothered by Dr. Olding's brisk attitude, though I wasn't thrilled by it.  I also didn't appreciate his condescending attitude when I told him I would like to schedule the recission soon because I was going to Florida the following month, and wanted the stitches to be out by then.  He quickly cut in, saying I wasn't allowed to be out in the sun anymore.  As though, since I now have melanoma, I must avoid going outdoors for the rest of my life.
I was very nervous about the recission because my first and only experience with stitches prior to this was just a few weeks prior when my dermatologist removed the growth from the crease of my knee.  The 10 days I had those first four stitches in was not pleasant, and I was very worried about repeating the experience.  After arriving for the recission appointment exactly on time, I was taken to a room where I sat alone for nearly 45 minutes.  That gave me plenty of time to think about what was happening and get myself pretty upset.  When Dr. Olding finally came in, he was clearly irritated that I had been crying, and asked if I was always so high strung.  Two weeks later I returned to have the stitches removed, where I again waited in an exam room for more than 30 minutes.  Karen removed most of the 12 stitches, but said  that a few looked like they might need to stay a little longer.  She had the doctor come in to look, and  he asked me how long they had been in and where exactly along the incision line the mole had been, both questions that I felt he should have known the answer to if he had taken five seconds to look at my chart.  He left two stitches in place and told me to come back in a week.  My last appointment to have the final two stitches removed was fine.   Karen removed the stitches, and I never saw the doctor at all.
I understand that Dr. Olding is a well regarded plastic surgeon in the city.  I appreciate that he has a lot of skill and experience.  His achievements don't excuse the way he treats patients though.  If the melanoma returns in the future and I need the services of a plastic surgeon, I will have my dermatologist refer me to someone else.
