Lots of decisions in the Hardwood market... we went with a site finished, rift/ quartered White Oak. This is not an easy process, but Lady Baltimore got us thru it. They were on time and met the established schedule. The floor turned out incredible. A few minor problem were immediately corrected without any hassle. The great thing about site finished it that issues that WILL come up as you use your floor can be easily repaired.

    Renew Home Improvements
We had an absolutely horrific experience with Renew Home Improvements. Every part of the process was extremely frustrating and disappointing. The owner was friendly during our initial few meetings and was the lowest price out of multiple estimates from numerous contractors. Once the contract was signed and he was given the first check, everything started to go down hill. The owner was rude, inconsiderate, and very dishonest. The work started out very slowly with workers only working a few days out of a week and no one ever seemed to arrive until late morning, which was very frustrating. The quality of work was very disappointing as well. We got into several arguments with the owner over poor workmanship and he simply didn't care. He wouldn't even listen to what we were saying before getting argumentative and defensive. He was always quick to blame us, the client/customer, for all of his mistakes. It was the strangest thing and extremely frustrating. If you do decide to use this contractor, which we do not recommend, make sure that you have every single thing written out as a line item in the contract. I mean EVERYTHING (even the little things that are common sense). We had many conversations with the owner and made it very clear what we wanted and expected. He conveniently "forgot" entire conversations we had about things that were supposed to be a part of the contract and then told us we would have to pay extra because he didn't recall the conversation and it wasn't a "line item" in the contract. We know very well that he did it on purpose to try and get more money from us. Our home was mistreated and personal items damaged during the process as well. A door was left wide open when the workers left and then the owner didn't even apologize when we made him aware. He simply said that his subcontractor claimed they locked up. They did reimburse us for the items that were damaged, but it was still frustrating because it never should have happened in the first place. the drywall installed was sloppy, crooked, and had lots of dents/marks, etc, the paint job was sloppy, the tile work was sloppy and they installed tiles that were chipped and then tried hiding it with the grout. The only thing that was not done poorly was the installation of the carpet. We had to constantly ask for things to be corrected and the owner tried to charge us extra for their mistakes. It was absolutely ridiculous. The project wasn't finished until about 2 months after the completion date that was agreed upon in our contract. Even after we complained, they still wouldn't bother showing up until 10 a.m., sometimes later and still didn't even work 5 days out of a week. This was by far the worst experience we have ever had with a contractor. Even after it was completed, we had an issue and called him to fix it, but were completely ignored. The contract stated that he guarantees his work for 12 months, however, he has made it clear that once he got our money, we will never see him again. Bottom line, DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR.

Floor Coverings International of Howard County

At the time of the insulation, the installers moved the heavy furniture and my jukebox, removed the old indoor/outdoor carpet from the concert floor, sanded the areas that need it and proceeded to put down the wood flooring. Charles Bass was there to see that all was done right. He even found a spot that was not perfect and had them remove the piece and replace it on the spot.

    NLT Construction
There are so many things I enjoyed about Dave and NLT Construction; it's hard to know where to begin!   At our initial consultation, we walked through my multiple visions of our new kitchen depending on what I thought was possible within our budget.  Dave was enthusiastic and honest with his recommendations.  Once we narrowed down a final design, Dave was hands-on down to the little details.  He personally showed up every day and always was quick with a phone call or email about anything ? something my perfectionist husband appreciated.  Dave would always answer when we called and returned emails promptly.  We were always in great hands.  The customer service couldn?t have been better.
The craftsmanship of the work was impeccable.  My husband is an engineer and would triple check every step of the process.  If ever a tweak was needed, which was rare, Dave and his team were on it until it was beyond perfection.
One of the things I found very helpful was Dave?s iPad!  Dave keeps all the photos of all his projects and they are ready at his fingertips.  I am a visual person and can?t "see" something until I actually see it!  Dave would be talking about a particular type of cabinet, or various lighting options, or tricks to do with tight cabinet spaces.  He would say "hey, I have a picture of that" and know exactly which project to dig into and pop up the photo to explain.  His previous repertoire of projects lends itself wonderfully to generating creative ideas for difficult problems, or just illustrating a technical term I was unaware of.  It was very valuable and helpful to have all the photos at the ready ? it was also akin to a resume of his work.
The pricing is unique and something I appreciated as well.  You pay for his services and the construction he will do but then you pay for your own subcontractors directly.  For example, we paid the hardwood flooring company, the electrician, and the tile guy directly.  We bought our own kitchen appliances, countertop, and hardware.  I felt in control of our budget and if I busted it, I felt it was my own fault.  Dave didn?t give me ?allowances? for the various expenses and box me into a max price for various categories.  I also didn?t feel he was taking a sub?s price and adding a percentage to bill me.  I knew what each sub cost because I paid the bill.
My husband and I were so impressed with Dave and the crew of NLT.  I would, and have, recommended them to friends and family.  They are a company I trust and I look forward to having them do any work on my home.  I never regretted choosing Dave and NLT over any other of the many companies we interviewed.

I initially contacted Floor Gem around August 2015 and he has been working with us since then to ensure that we were able to get all issues resolved.
Ken is an absolute professional! From our initial contact for consultation, he has been very responsive. He provided advice on how to submit a claim with our home insurance company was was very patient and helpful when we encountered issues with our insurance company, although they were no fault of his own.
I am very satisfied with the responsiveness. I was offered various methods of communication; text messages, email, phone, etc. He was very punctual and was courteous enough to call 30 minutes before arrival.
After the repair, our floor looks absolutely amazing. Our floor looks even better than I expected. He was also gracious enough to answer any questions that I may have, after the repair. I'm very glad that I chose Floor Gem. Their work was thorough and clean. I will definitely consider Ken again without hesitation and stand behind my review 100%. I will recommend him without hesitation and will be contacting Floor Gem for any future repairs that I may have.

    Interior Images
We settled on Interior Images after getting recommendations from our contractor, who remodeled our master bath two years ago. At Interior Images, we dealt with owner Al Cleaver.  We found him to be quite knowledgeable and helpful.  He asked us what we wanted, then he showed us what he offered in his showroom that fit our requirements.  We were trying to decide between engineered hardwoods and real hardwoods.  After further discussion, my wife and I picked out several options from Shaw Floors.  We took home samples to see how the floor would look in our home.  Throughout the whole process, Al was prompt with answering any questions we had.  We settled on Shaw's Westwood Russet hardwood floors.  Al highly recommended that we go with a wider plank, so the Shaw we selected is 4" wide.  We were in no rush to get the work done, so we gave Al plenty of time to schedule us.  Everything went smoothly with the scheduling and his floor installer, Mike Miller, arrived on time on the day we selected to start the project.  Mike Miller had two apprentices with him.  When they arrived, they surveyed the rooms where the hardwoods would be installed. Once they decided in which order they would do the work, they started with pulling up the carpeting and removing the existing hardwood in the foyer.  Prior to the start of the project, we emptied out the bookcases, office desk, china cabinet/breakfront, buffet, entertainment cabinet, and moved all the small breakables and small tables.  Mike Miller and his team moved the rest of the furniture around, as they removed the carpeting and installing the hardwood.  Mike does excellent work.  He was meticulous and careful in how he installed the hardwoods.  Mike and his team were very respectful and did their very best to keep things clean and not damage anything.  In our family room around the marble floor in front of the fireplace, Mike created a simple, but very nice border with the hardwoods.  Mike and his team completed the project in 3 days.  On the 4th day, he came for a little touch-up and to install one tread on the staircase that Al had to order because it was overlooked. Al had the piece overnight delivered, so Mike was able to install it.  Since Mike was finished on the 3rd day, he put in a temporary tread in two pieces until he received the one long piece.  When Mike installed the hardwoods in the powder room, Mike removed the toilet and the sink, but Al brought in his plumber, Greg Fryfogle, to re-install the toilet and sink.  When removing the sink, the old caulking removed some of the new paint and drywall, but Greg took care of it, except for the paint, which I handled easily.  Greg offered, but I preferred to take care of it myself.  In the hallway upstairs, the carpet in each bedroom needed to be tucked in, so Al had his carpet guy, Ken, handle the job.  We found the whole process to be terrific.  It was really good to work with Al and Mike.  We found our bath remodeler on Angie's List, but it was his recommendation that led us to Interior Images, which had some entries on Angie's List already.

    A Plus Carpet & Flooring
The entire process from picking out carpet that was in my price point to getting it scheduled and installed went very well. We were very happy with the install with the exception of one very visible seam in the middle of the hallway. I called about this initially and spoke with Scott and was told that seams were part of getting a carpet installed but I just felt this one was way more visible than the others. I called back a couple weeks later and spoke with Scott again as I couldn't let it go. I sent a picture and email of the seam and someone called me back the next day to have someone come out and fix it. They came out today and fixed this seam. It looks great! Thank you so much!

    Interior Images

We worked with Ken Dorsey at Interior Images and he was very prompt and responsive with helping us pick out the flooring, coming to the house and taking measurements, and providing a quote. Interior Images subs out all their work and his subcontractors did very good work. We had Alterna tile installed in the kitchen and prefinished hardwood through out the rest of the main level. Ultimately we were happy with the work and the final product, but a couple things occurred that will have me at least consider alternative places to take my business in the future:

    1. Ken came to our house on a Saturday to take measurements. He told me that he was leaving the next day for a 1 week cruise, but he would get me a quote the very next day before he left. I told him not to worry about it and just get me the quote when he came back from vacation, but he insisted he would get me the quote, which he did. We agreed on the price and all of the details were included in the quote, as we discussed. A few weeks later when we were scheduling the work to be done, Ken mentioned that he had messed up and although we agreed the foyer would be included in the work, he forgot to include the quantity in his quote. He then went on to make a big deal about how it was a $1,600 mistake, but he would honor the price, etc. The whole conversation bothered me a bit and struck me as unprofessional as I felt he was expecting me to offer to compensate him for his mistake.

    2. His hardwood contractor did the work over a 2 day period. After they installed the portion on the first day me and my wife noted that at least two of the new boards had gouges (not scratched, but gouges) in them. When he showed up at the house the next day I pointed them out and he apologized and was actually upset at himself for not seeing them himself. He replaced those boards without a problem and apparently then looked over the rest of the work as well. Later in the day I got a text from Ken which basically told me that we had to be careful and that his guy had to swap out 14 boards. I immediately called Ken to talk to him and again he told me that they had found 14 boards that were muffed and accused us of causing the damage. I informed him we had in fact moved no furniture and had not even spent time in the rooms where the work was done that night. When it came time to make the final payment he made a big deal to me about how his guy charged him an extra $350 because of having to swap the boards out and how I needed to help him absorb that cost because between that, and the estimating mistake, he was not going to make any money on this job. I again told him that I was not prepared to give him any additional compensation as the work was not done to our satisfaction initially and had to be made right. He grumbled some more about it and then that was the end of it. Again, this whole exchange really bothered me.

At the end of the day, as I said, the work was done well, and on time, and the price was good (apparently part of that is because he had misquoted me, in my favor.) The somewhat unprofessional exchanges noted above though leave me very hesitant to use Interior Images for any future flooring work.

We had a great experience working with Eugene and his team.
They truly did a great job. They were very professional, punctual and
responsive. Eugene always got back to us within the same day if we had any
questions. Eugene?s team always cleaned up before the end of the day and made
sure everything was done to our liking. All of Eugene?s people are very hard
working and they went above and beyond to meet and exceed our expectations. The
price was reasonable and the quality of work was excellent. We love our new
kitchen and will use Eugene?s services again.

    Unique Refinishing
From the very start, Felix was very proactive in discussing with us what we wanted and the options for staining. He and his team were extremely professional and the results showed that, we are extremely happy with the results as neighbors who visited immediately noticed the improvements. Once we save enough dollars for upstairs, will gladly contact Felix and his team again to put hardwood down.
