Iron Work reviews in Rockville

  • A professional experience, throughout. Lifetime Stones provided design consultation, planning, licensing, construction, landscaping, and cleanup for a concrete path and staircase at 15% grade to facilitate egress for a family member with limited mobility. Acting on my requirements, they suggested a solution that stayed within my budget and they completed the work within three weeks! I was looking for a no-nonsense partner for this project and Lifetime Stones came through. Notable about the performance of this job, Lifetime Stones handled all of the formalities regarding licensing within Montgomery County, MD, including the necessary MissUtility prerequisites. My point of contact kept me informed with respect to schedule, informing me each day contractors would be on site. The staff were polite throughout and by all accounts were a happy bunch of people. During the construction process, I had an abundance of questions and they engaged my concerns throughout, patiently explaining how the project would proceed. I’ll call on them again anytime the scope of my landscaping project exceeds my capabilities in terms of skill, schedule, or logistics.

  • The team found bricks that matched the shape of the current ones, constructed the railing so it was identical to the original design (required by my HOA) and painted it with three layers of primer/paint to fend off future rust. Project included sanding and repainting an iron gate as well. I am totally pleased with the finished product and will be soon using the 5th Gen Group for another brick project.

  • I was looking for a reputable painting firm to spruce up the outside of my home and ended up choosing Hömm. From start to finish, this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with any contractor as a homeowner. I instantly knew from my initial meeting with Andres that I’d be in good hands. He returned my call within the day and was at my house the next morning to do a walk-around, during which we discussed various options for the exterior painting work, including cleaning the aluminum siding. He was very thoughtful, making suggestions as appropriate and never pushing any sort of up-sell. I had a proposal in my hands just a day or two later, with everything clearly laid-out. They use an E-sign service, making the whole acceptance process quite easy, and I was on the calendar for their next available slot. Everything went very, very well during the painting itself, with the team doing an excellent job. They were particularly careful with the trim work, taping surfaces to leave a neat appearance when they were done. The railings on my front steps look better than they ever have due to their attention to sanding down as needed and smoothing out the surfaces. I also had to have some woodwork replaced with new PVC board, and I very much appreciated that the team put the joints between boards in inconspicuous places, below the level of my deck so they can’t be seen. These little touches are the true mark of people who take pride in their work. Finally, I really appreciate how careful the guys were at the end of the job, tidying up and leaving everything just right. We did a final walk-through once the work was completed, and my house looks spectacular! I’ve already recommended Hömm to several of my neighbors, who happened to be around when the work was being done. They were also quite impressed by the team’s care and attention to detail, along with their courtesy. All in all, a great experience - and I’ll be calling you again soon for some interior work, Andres!

  • Affordable Railings was the only vendor to respond to my request. We began with an email discussion in which they requested photos and approximate measurements. I then spoke with them via phone to discuss options, after which they sent a written estimate. I decided to go in a different direction and cancelled the project, and their response was again very professional. If nothing else, I must say I appreciated their time and effort.

  • T (that is the name he goes by) was great to deal with. He was very pleasant and easy to talk to. His estimate was about $2000 less than a competitor. I had to reach out to him a second time which is the only reason why I rated him a 4 on the responsiveness question. An added bonus was T helped pick up my dad when he fell in the house on the installation day. He was also very patient with all my dad's questions prior to the work being started. I highly recommend this company.

  • We ended up going with a different vendor, only because they were able to provide horizontal balusters (which we were ideally looking for) for our stairway, and Naula's only does vertical balusters. That said, I wanted to take a moment to comment on Naula's professionalism. They were very responsive and setup a time to come by and provide an estimate very quickly. We received an estimate in a timely manner, and their price was competitive.

  • :Working with Lifetime Stones was one of the easiest experiences we've had with a contractor. When we were looking to give our house some curb appeal before putting it on the market for sale, we got estimates from several companies to repair and/or cover our crumbling concrete steps and walkway. Eddie Lovius from Lifetime Stones blew the competition away in all regards. He responded to our inquiry and came out for an estimate immediately, had good, solid  ideas that fit within our budget, and was willing and able to promptly prepare multiple estimates for three different options. Once we decided to cover the whole area in flagstone, the work was completed quickly and professionally. When we had a concern about one of the stones and its alignment with the steps, its was fixed the next day without any difficulty or extra charge. We were so pleased with their work, that we hired them again for work on our new house.
At the new house, Eddie again did a quick estimate for multiple options ranging in scale and price. Resetting the flagstone was a lot of work, but again the work was done quickly. The team even noticed that some of the wood between the flagstone was rotted, and they decided to replace it for us at no additional cost.
We initially only contracted for part of the retaining wall to be replaced, but upon demo it became clear the entire wall needed replacement. Eddie was good about keeping us updated on this change of plans, and his skilled mason figured out a way to use some of the existing brick to offset some of the cost of the increase in estimate.
A few days after we'd made our final payment, we noticed a slight chip in one of the flagstones. Eddie sent his team out to replace it without hesitation.
We now regularly recommend Lifetime Stones and their project manager, Eddie Lovius, to friends and neighbors.

  • The designer was our contact man throughout the project and was very personable and eager to please. The crew, too, were very friendly and pleasantly put up with a lot of questions and requests from us as the work progressed. They even paid attention when, a time or two, I came up with a way to solve a problem they were having or asked for a change in the way they were doing something to make the outcome more to our liking.

The work went relatively smoothly considering the complexities that crop up in that kind of project. The bulk of the job was completed in less than two weeks, but tying up the loose ends took several weeks longer, though we were happily using the new kitchen well before the last items were wrapped up.

During the planning and design phase, we forgot about the kitchen's only HVAC vent. It was in the wall, virtually hidden just above the old high cabinets, which did not extend to the ceiling as our new ones do. The VKB guys had to open up the wall and ceiling and do some sheet-metal work to extend the duct and relocate the vent in the ceiling, but because there was a ceiling joist exactly in line with the wall vent, they also had to make a jog in the new ductwork to install the new vent in the center of the ceiling.

When the new cabinet shipment arrived, the cabinet that was to go over the refrigerator was missing and would not be available for about three weeks?part of the reason why it took so long to finish the project. A few other items, such as the new ceiling fixture, the soap dispenser for the new sink, and matching wall plates, switches, and receptacles, also got strung out until nearly the end. All of these, however, were minor details, and we never doubted that they would be done correctly and soon, as they were.

After we signed the contract and everything was agreed on, we requested installation of an additional four-receptacle outlet in the area of the new countertop space created by the new custom cabinet. As with the HVAC problem, this was a change they threw in without a peep of protest.

We would eagerly seek out VKB for any similar work in the future and would wholeheartedly recommend them to family, friends, and neighbors. They are the top.

  • I know that Long Fence provides many different services and that the original companies had been divided into different companies.  I can only speak to the services I received.  The gentleman who came to give me an estimate was very pleasant and easy to deal with. This was about 6 weeks before Thanksgiving, and I asked if the job could be completed before Thanksgiving as one of my guests had difficulty climbing stairs and the hand railing would help.  The job was completed before Thanksgiving.  I did not get estimates from anyone else except Long Fence, so I don't have a price comparison.

  • I had 3 different appointments for the provider to see my property to perform the work.  The first time it was a no show, and no one was picking up the main number.  The second time after they were 30  minutes late and I called, they had me speak to Johnny directly; he said he was stuck in too much traffic and could come the following week.  That week was also a no show, so I'm lucky I did not give them any money because it would probably be impossible to hear from them.  Unfortunately they just wasted lots of my time.
