    Maryland Contracting & Design
My brother and I recently bought a house together. It is very old and outdated. We searched for a contracted that we felt comfortable with to remodel our bathrooms to start with before we moved on to other items in the house. Maryland Contracting & Design went over and above what we had imagined for our bathrooms. We can't wait to begin the next remodeling project of the kitchen. Very professional company not to mention they kept the project clean at all times.

    JES Foundation Repair
On the morning of the scheduled appt., which was set at 1 pm, I noticed I missed a call from JES at approx 10 am. I called JES to ask them if they were calling to confirm the 1 pm appt, which they replied yes and confirmed 1 pm. As soon as I hung up, I found a voice mail. It was JES stating that their inspector is sick and would not be able to make it. I called JES back, expained what just happened and asked if they were coming or not. Also, the 3 hr. notice put several people involved in a bind. The receptionist who had confirmed the 1 pm appt was unaware of the voicemail conceling the appt. I was routed to someone else who after some prodding, agreed to send someone else. When this person arrived, he found every excuse possible NOT to inspect the crawlspace, and at one point stated I need to pay an engineer $750 first, before he could give me an estimate. We subsequently gave this $10,000 job to another company.

    Aquaguard Waterproofing
We had our issues. The problem was that the water had nothing to do with the basement, it just ended up in the basement. I actually had roof flashing that had a crack in it,  and if the rain hit it at the right time, it went through the roof, into the wall, and down to the basement. Their investigation did not come up with that, and because of that, I signed up for a very expensive renovation of my basement, that is going to cost me about 18000 Dollars when it is done. I had a leak for 10 years, and I would have fixed that leak for a fraction of the cost. They work like a machine, they came in, and had my whole basement with the drain done in 6 hours, they had people doing outside the walls, and they fixed the one leak that we knew where it was and we didn't know where the other one was. One day after they finished, the water poured into the basement again, because the 2nd leak was not occurring in the wall. We just finally resolved everything today, because the contractor told us they would find the leak, which was on the roof. They told me they would reimburse the cost for having someone come and repair the roof, where the leak was. It took a month to get all that resolved, and where I actually got the money. What they do is excellent, and I can't say anything about the work they do. They are clean and neat, but they didn't do enough to inspect to see where the water was coming in from. I just signed up for this expensive remodel of my basement, but I don't think I needed that much done. If it rained two days before the job was done, then we would have found out that the leak was not on the wall. If you have a finished basement, then it is more difficult to see where the leak is, while if you have an unfinished basement, you can see the stains on the wall and see where the water is coming from. They were really professional, and very good. There were some mistakes made on the initial inspection. What they do, they do good.  I wish there was more poking around by the inspector to make sure that both the leaks were what we thought they were.  It was a lot of money to pay for the time they were here. I wouldn't have a problem using them again, I am a lot more smarter now and would not jump into anything without finding out more about what was involved.

    QUALITY LANDSCAPING
The overall job seems to have been done well. We've had no problems with the system other than the ground settling where they dug the trenches. About two weeks after the completetion of the lob a large area of the yard collapsed (near the septic tank where they tied into the existing line). The ground sank about a foot and half. I called the owner and he sent his crew out to make repairs and re-seed the area - all OK. Then about 3 months after completetion we got a lot of rain from a storm (Sandy) and two areas in the woods (at the ends of the new drinefields) collapsed. These areas are about 2 feet wide, 10 feet long and about a foot and a half deep. I called the owner and he told me he would not address the problem unless he happened to be working near my address. He told me that his current job was in another county and he didn't have any work planned near our house. Besides, he said, it's normal for the ground to settle and he doesn't normally redress these problems  after month or so. At this writing I haven't heard from him and the sunken areas have not been filled. I plan to use a neighbor's tractor and fill in the holes myself.

    Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing
They first send out an evaluator who gives a VERY hard sell and tells you what you need to fix everything.  They give a high price which is lowered on subsequent visits and discussions over the phone. the second evaluator (re-evaluator) said they could do things a little differently and then lowered the price to $9000 from the original $15000.   After the hard sell, they send out a team who does the work.  The guys were very hard working and polite.  They did a great job with the work and clean up.  It was completed and cleaned up in two days. During the job, the head worker (foreman) came to me and said there was cracking and weak area in the foundation under the crawlspace and it needed to be reinforced with rebar and repaired. This would cost another  $4000.  Almost up to the original !5.  The guy pushed the importance of this work which may or may not have been that necessary...Do it now...Pressure...OK if it needs done, I guess it is needed, so I say go ahead. I then waited for my basement to be dried out completely dry .  I still ran a dehumidifier daily for over a year, thinking it just took a long time to dry out completely. Nope, still wet, just not as wet. I then contacted them to have them come back and check out why it was still wet in my basement. The evaluator said they needed to redo the crawlspace because it was still wet under the plastic(he actually was able to make a "clump" of dirt it was  so moist still.) The guys came back and redid the work.  I had another drying out period and contacted them again, and they came out again,  The guy said my pumps are not even used by the company any longer because they have a more efficient pump now. I don't remember what was done then.
The moisture is still in my basement, I still run the dehumidifier constantly.(I am on the 4th one since my basement was completed by MAWP) I have had them to my house several times and the issue has not been resolved, I have to take off work and have them come again, as it covered for life but it is a hassle to have them come and not have the issue resolved, so I put it off longer. They could contact me and fix the problem and I would change this review. But as things stand right now, I would not advise others to use this company.
