AJW Home ImprovementJosh came to provide an appraisal and he quickly understood what needed to be done and provided a solution. Jose came out quickly and widened the opening so we could get our furnace serviced and our heat turned on. Jose returned and within 4 hours had the electrical outlet moved, new framing complete and painted, floor tile replaced, and new doors installed. I am very impressed with the service provided by JW and will contact them again for any needed repairs.- Debbie W.

The estimate had to be revised because the trim on my 40 year-old house couldn't be replicated in terms of color. I received a prompt re-estimate, accepted the very reasonable price, and the work was completed quickly. I couldn't be happier with the work product. RM Banning is just a fine organization to work with. Three years prior, RM Banning replaced my entire roof, and did quality work then. Poor communication between crew, general contractor and scheduling office resulted in 2 no-show events on the part of the general contractor, despite direct reassurance & agreement with client. 1 week later still pending adjusted bill.

DTerrible Service!! Do not use this company!!! The initial price was too high but I accepted it because it was hard to get any help in my area. When they arrived they were ill-prepared and charged me another exorbitant price to do the job. I felt forced to pay it because I needed the job done. Then I was told they needed to purchase materials to do the job, which I will pay. I paid that extra couple hundred dollars too. Then I noticed I had purchase tools they needed, and expected to keep. I requested the money back for the cost of the tools. I was told I'd receive a receipt for everything online. I was not there when the installation was finished. When I saw my Pergola in my front yard I found the built in bar table was very crooked by a few inches, and it had a long larg gap toward the middle. I also found the bench seats had been reinstalled twice. They left several large holes on the middle of each side of my main post where we will sit. They attempted to cover up the holes with something that looks like cheap wood puddy. It was much lighter than the actual wood posts and now it's staining and running down the posts because of the rain. They also damaged the main slotted joist. A large strip of the wood was torn off of the end that is easiest to see. Of course they never bothered to advise me of the damage they made and/or covered up! Although they were paid in full before performing the job, a few days after I received a invoice for the materials I paid for in cash. At that point I sent the owner a nasty gram. He then had the nerve to send me a message back and commented on (my attitude). This mental midget must believe he is beyond reproach. He should be paying me for damaging my Pergola and running it! I still may do something legally to recoup the damages...

DI would not recommend using this company. I will explain the experience we had as a warning to others. I'll try to condense this down since it's a long history and unfortunately is not over yet (roof not installed properly and still waiting for repairs). We received a quote from Jack at Shiner, which was competitive with other bids we received. We went with Shiner because they guaranteed a quicker timeline from contract execution to installation. We signed the contract and waited. No one contacted us for over a week and we had to reach out to Jack to get an update. This is a common theme (i.e. no show and no update until you proactively call the office to check-in). When we did get in-touch with the office they gave us an installation date that was over 3 weeks longer than we'd initially been promised by Jack. Now to the actual installation of the roof. We received multiple installation dates that were subsequently delayed due to weather. This is totally understandable but we only learned of these delays when we would call the office the day of to find out when the crew was arriving. The eventual crew seemed competent and did the full roof replacement over a period of 3 days. No major complaints other than all the old nails that were scattered over our yard and street (one of our cars subsequently had a flat tire from a nail that I'm sure was from the roof). Once the crew left we found out that they had installed the wrong material on a flat portion of our roof. This part gets a little technical, but during the bidding process, Jack told us that the only material Shiner felt comfortable using on the flat roof was something called TPO as opposed to other companies that quoted a material called EPDM and Shiner would only install TPO (which also happens to be more expensive). As it turned out, Shiner installed EPDM. They gave us the option of reinstalling with TPO or refunding us the difference, which was fine . However, note that if we had not discovered this on our own, it would never have been flagged independently by the company. The installers and inspectors clearly don't talk to the sales team preparing the bids. The roof was installed in December 2020. It is now February 2021 and we've had two different leaks in our attic. An inspector from Shiner came to take a look and told us the shingles in those areas were nailed incorrectly. We were given a repair date a week later. The day before the repair the office called to tell us the crew would be out "first thing in the morning." By 10:30am the next day I called the office to get an update since no one had arrived. I was then told that the roofing material had not been delivered and the crew would not be out for another 3-4 days. Again, not only is this aggravating but it's completely unprofessional -- (1) why schedule work to be done before you have the material; and (2) why did I need to call to get the update that the crew wouldn't be coming out instead of someone from Shiner calling me first. When I spoke to Christine the office manager she told me it wasn't her fault that the material wasn't delivered and had no explanation for why Shiner was unable to call me in advance about the scheduling delay. We never write these kind of reviews, but honestly it has been the worst experience both from a customer service and quality of work perspective. The company has pretty positive reviews otherwise, so hopefully we are just an unfortunate outlier, but I thought it was important that prospective customers be aware of our experience.

AMelvin and his crew are outstanding! I was amazed by his skills, professionalism, honesty and care. I reached out to him desperately on a Sunday, after the first person I hired did not come with the proper equipment to paint the interior of my home. Melvin came out to do the job THE SAME DAY. I gave him more to do when I realized he had a broader skill set. He wrapped up the entire project: painting, lighting, cabinetry AND custom shelves in two days. I will definitely hire him again as I map out other home improvements projects I’ve got left to do.

BThe gentleman came for an estimate, showed me a brochure with the type of door they offered (preferred), explained what needed to be done, etc. I wanted grids between the glass, but didn't have a brochure on hand to show that particular style. Retrieved from his car some Home magazine where the doors were advertised. After showing the magazine, offered to take off $100 advertised. Got the impression he was more interested in selling the door without the grids.

AI don't think it gets any better than this. The job was in a condo with a lot of rules that Chesapeake Kitchens scrupulously followed. The workmanship was excellent, and the quality of the materials used was very high. I was a first-time remodeler, and I needed lots of guidance about what would work and what wouldn't. The only mistake they made was in occasionally assuming I knew something I didn't know, but the results were always beautiful, and within budget.
