    Prime Construction Corp
I hired Prime Construction to build a screened in porch for me, and they did such a good job that i asked them to fix a poorly done kitchen install job that I had hired someone for the previous year. One recommendation: A kitchen install requires highly skilled labor. if it is poorly done, the skilled labor will generally not want to deal with fixing someone else's mistakes which is actually more work, and fixing it is too small a job to interest them. I had been trying to find someone good for over a year. Augustin accepted to work with me as long as I fit within his schedule, and his guys did an amazing job of fixing the issues I had. They had to take out many cabinets and reinstall, re-secure cabinets, adjust doors, level and lower a pantry cabinet (cut bottom off), straighten sides of a warped cabinet, put in crown molding, fix crooked toe-kick, install thresholds, straighten warped panels as much as possible. The price was reasonable. Work took a day and a half of 2 skilled individuals. They were flexible to accommodate additional items requested, and were very clean (dust from cutting, dealing with trash, etc..). I cannot insist enough on the quality of the labor provided because this was not an easy job. Thank you so much!

    Kargmans Inc
How did it go?  Wonderful!  I bought 40 hours of handyman labor, plus 2 hours of project management consult.   They spread the work out over three days, one person on the first day and two people the next two days, and I got more than I bargained for.  In addition, Kargmans was willing to reschedule the last two days when the weather was against doing the exterior work.  These guys are focused on giving the customer value.  The workers sent were focused on giving me service, and pointed out on the first day that if I ran and got the paint they could also fully paint a basement room that was in need of a fresh coat within the hours that I bought above and beyond what I originally wanted done.  So all the work I originally planned to have done got done, plus a full room painting with trim!  I absolutely received my money's worth.
On each day, the workers arrived, pulled into my driveway, and within a few minutes were at work.  They pulled the rotting columns from my porch and replaced them with the new columns I had picked up.  Primed and painted them, and then repainted all the trim around my front door including removing flaking paint and sanding where needed.  And repainted the front door as well.  Inside, the ceiling stains were primed with an oil based primer to prevent bleed through, repainted, and the damaged area repaired.  They helped me clear the basement room and then prepped, repaired, and painted the ceiling, walls, and trim.  These guys never stopped moving the whole time they were in my home.  They pulled my shutters off the house, primed them, repainted them and then put them back up.  Oh, and they made it a point to clean up.
In 40 hours, a lot of work was done.  I did ask Kargmans if they wanted to pick up supplies during the consult (another company insisted on doing this so I thought I would ask), and they explained to me that although they could do that, if I could get the supplies then I was not wasting their workers talent running to Home Depot or Lowes.  This is a credit to the company, they are more interested in giving their customer value for the dollar than anything else.  I am planning to use this company in the future.

    Potts Brothers LLC

We have used Potts in the past for painting, and I would recommend them for painting. Since they do other services, I asked them to give an estimate for replacement of rotten wood on our screened in porch.  I got the estimate and paid the deposit.  The workers arrived, took a small piece of wood, and went shopping for replacement wood.  They never returned that day and later told me that they could not find the wood to match the original.  They said they would talk to a specialty lumber company.  Eventually they told me that the wood would not match the original.  I asked if they could send a picture or drop off a sample but they never did either.  I called several times and was always told that they were waiting for something or that the person I needed to talk to wasn't there.  After at least 6-8 weeks, someone in the office called to say they couldn't do the job and that they were refunding my deposit.  I did not appreciate the delays.

I eventually got a local carpenter to give me an estimate.  He glanced at the wood and immediately knew what to purchase.  He had no problem locating it.  There are very slight variations in the depth of the grooves; however, these are visible only on close scrutiny.

    Renaissance Restoration Inc.

Rene Lopez, the owner, was very prompt and efficient in evaluating the work to be done and giving us estimates for a couple different approaches to our repair problem.  He was very knowledgeable. The workmanship was excellent, the workers were extremely competent and polite.  Everything was always left neat and clean at the end of the day.  The job was completed within 10 days of the time we made initial contact with Mr. Lopez.  They wanted us to be completely satisfied and were more than willing to go the "extra mile" if necessary.  This is a company I would be happy to recommend and would not hesitate to do business with them again.

    Willis Builders Inc
We purchased 40 hours of work from the company through Angie's List. The company called immediately and set up a date to review the work. Luis from the company called immediately and set up a date to review the work. Luis from the company came over on time, reviewed the list of work, and set up a time to do the work. They arrived on time, worked diligently, completed all the work in the 40 hours we had paid for, and left the house clean. Luis returned on the last day to correct a few issues we had found with the initial work by his crew.

    Orbe Construction
Although our house is only 20 yrs old, it had rotting wood trim, aluminum siding which was faded, damaged and dirty, and windows which let cold air through. We had seen Orbe Construction trucks in the neighborhood and had seen the quality work they had done. We saw the positive reviews on Angie's List and were pleased to discover that they were an Olney, MD company which is where we live. Their estimate was thorough, complete and extremely reasonable price-wise. The salesman, Gian, brought the sample windows, siding and trim choices for us to review and select, and brought by written proposals. Unlike some of the other window installers we interviewed, Orbe did not resort to a "hard sell" or other uncomfortable sales tactic. Work started on time. The workers showed up at about 8:00 a.m. each day and worked a full day. They only came inside when installing the windows. I was concerned that they might scratch our new hardwood floors. Without me saying anything, the workers took their shoes off every time they entered the house and used tarps to protect the floors while installing the windows. They cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day, including vacuuming and sweeping inside when necessary. Gian communicated with us regularly as to what the schedule was and how they were progressing. The job was done timely and completely. This company obviously takes pride in its work. They seemed to want our house to be the best looking house in the neighborhood - and now it is. It looks like a model home. We are very pleased with the job done and strongly recommend Orbe for any home construction/remodeling job you have.

    Lofft Construction Inc
A long painful ordeal. More than a year from contract to job resolution. I am too tired to dredge up the whole issue again, so this will just document the finish. Filed a "D" report in early 2010, used Angie's List dispute resolution. Would give a variety of grades in various categories (some F, some D, some C, no A or B) but following the resolution process my understanding is that Angie's List expects me to rate with B minimum (prior report was removed). Post-resolution notes: - The day I sent in the final payment, Alex (project manager) said he was sending me a copy of the deck drawings. I have not received them (it has been over a month) - Today I learned that Evergrain rails require supporting "crush blocks" 25 inches on center uner the rails to provide support. Lofft did not install these anywhere. Based on prior hassles with the builder, I will repair the rails myself.

Excellent. The pattern for the floors demanded much expertise and they completed the work perfectly.
