    Baumann's Lawn & Landscape
I hired Baumann's Lawn and Landscape to fix my front lawn. The soil was mostly clay and sand and covered in weeds. They killed and removed all the vegetation, tilled the soil, brought in new topsoil, conditioned/fertilized, and then laid sod. The crew was fast, efficient, polite, and did an amazing job (hopefully this site allows me to upload photos after writing this). The work was done in 3 separate days and took less than 2 weeks from the initial phone call to the finished installation. The price is what you would expect for this level of work and that much sod (sod is not cheap). They're not over-priced but it's not Bob's discount landscaping either. You'll get your money's worth for your project. Baumann's will be my #1 choice for future landscape projects.

    The Outdoor Advantage LLC
The work is was done on time and as scheduled. We needed the job completed quickly since we are in process of selling our house. Dave fit us in and the workers did a very professional job prepping the area and then placing the sod. Job well done!

    Eds Tree Service Inc
Alice came out to do an estimate, which was left in my door. I was quite surprised that the estimate was three times the price of two other estimates received for the same service. I received one estimate for $1400 and a second one for $1700. Alice's estimate was for $4300, less a 10% discount for a total of $3870. I didn't reach back out to them to discus's the price as I was quite put off by the large amount. It definitely pays to get several estimates!

    M & R Cleaning Services
We purchased 8 hours of labor for $229 through Angie's List. The owner was very difficult to communicate with and schedule. It took over a month to get the work scheduled and completed. Once the owner did show up as scheduled, we walked the yard to show the work that needed to be done. After he saw the work, he stated that the weeding was too extensive and would not qualify for the established price. Admittedly, the weeds were very thick and overgrown in the beds, but partially because it took a month to get the work scheduled. He stated that he wouldn't do the work for less than $600. I felt a bit ambushed, and needed the work done ASAP. We negotiated a price between the two amounts. He left two members of his work crew to complete the job. They did an adequate job - no complaints about the actual work. However, the work was done in just over two hours by his two employees - a total of about four labor hours (half the time that we paid for through Angie's List, and at a higher price). Needless to say, despite the work being adequate, I won't be using this company again and will not be recommending them.

    South River Landscapes
I hired South River Landscapes to do a pretty major project on the backyard of our single family home in Laurel. The scope of work included erosion control, drainage via French drains/piping, and landscaping to bring everything together. Leo promised 5-10 days to completion, with another 5 days built in in case of rain (which was fortunate, since we did end up having six days of rain in a row shortly after the project began). I have pictures, emails, and text messages to back up everything I am about to write. The project started off really good- Leo was on-time for the estimate and the first day of work involved having a huge earth mover in my backyard tearing through tree roots. After that though, things started going downhill. Over the course of the next SIX WEEKS the work was either performed incorrectly or performed indeterminately. At least twice Leo texted me to promise that his "guys" were coming over this weekend and the work would be done. Both weekends the weather was great and nothing occurred. On a third weekend a "guy" came over for about an hour. Also, Leo sub-contracted out the retaining wall that was part of my erosion control, so instead of working during the day we and the neighbors were not home, the sub-contractors did not start arriving until 6pm and hastily worked until dark. For reference, the retaining wall had to be built/re-built/changed three times. When my husband was forced to dig up part of the fill dirt in order to put a barrier up between our new, higher-level yard and the fence so that any run-off would not seep into our neighbor's yard (yes we had to think of this- Leo did not think of this and the last thing we wanted was neighbors yelling at us) we discovered that instead of cleaning up/throwing away things before installing the fill dirt, Leo and his crew simply BURIED MY ROSEBUSH along with a metal tomato pole and some wood remnants (see pictures). Lastly, upon completion of the project Leo and his team left a mess in my backyard. There are concrete rocks in my new sod, broken PVC piping in my mulch, spare gloves just thrown around, and get this- his yard guys actually SEEDED a large rock of clay mud and guess what? It is growing grass! Wow, now I have a large rock of clay growing grass in my yard. :( I say he "completed" the project because technically he did meet all of the criteria set forth in the scope of work. However, he did a pretty shoddy job of it (ex: see the picture of what the ground looked like when we pulled back the sod a few days ago- does that look like drainage to you? nope- it looks like resting water under sod). Not to mention I found out five weeks into the project that he is not even licensed and certified to do ANY landscape design work in the state of Maryland! No wonder it is a total mess and my husband and I are estimating we will have to spend $500-1000 to fix what Leo either hastily did or did not do to our satisfaction. Save yourself a lot of stress, and do not hire Leo. While his crew may be pretty decent at installing basic landscaping, it is just really not worth the hassle and headache of putting up with a 19 year old who does not have a foreman at the job site, does not often come to the job site himself, and will often push your project aside in favor of mowing someone's grass.

    Petria Inc
I've used Petria before for gutter cleaning. The gutter cleaning went just fine as did the power wash. The lawn clean up was poor, with large branches still on my lawn when the job was finished. I called and had them come out to finish the job. They did, but then charged me for the lawn work a second time. After I complained, they said I could ignore the new invoice. Other work that I'd asked them to do: mulching, weeding, lawn reseeding, and dryer vent cleaning -- which they'd said they were going to give me a price on, they never did price out, despite repeated requests.

    Budget Landscaping & Construction
It was hard to initially get set up with an appointment, but once we did, Nelson (the owner) and his crew did an excellent job of doing all the tasks we'd paid for. We will likely hire him again to redo our walkway from the house to the garage and to repave our patio.

The Top Team Lawn Care LLC
The spring clean up went great. However, when it came time for the regular service to start, the team showed up unannounced at the end of April - we had not agreed on a start date or a regular recurring date for service. My security cameras captured the team walking around my property and the only service rendered was that they blew leaves off my front porch. My grass was weedy and long and I texted the owner, Carlos what had happened. He did not seemed concerned or offer to fix it at all. He said that in the first two months, the grass 'doesn't grow much' so they don't cut it. Ummm what??? The services agreed upon biweekly were mowing, trimming, edging and blowing. I ended up having to pay some other guy who does my neighbor's lawn to cut mine. Then Carlos texts me a week later saying he will be in the neighborhood and can they come today? First off, it was biweekly service, not weekly and I told him I had someone else mow the other day since his team did not mow when they came. He then insisted that his team would not come and 'only blow leaves off a porch'. I told him again that I had security cameras and that's how I knew what they did. He asked to see the footage and said in disbelief that he didn't think his team would lie to him, implying that I was being dishonest. I told him we did not need his services any longer. The price is good, but for this much trouble and follow up, absolutely not worth it to save a few bucks.
