  • Estimate was very prompt and in person (unlike other two companies contacted). Crew came within a couple of days well-equipped, at time promised, despite threatening weather (rain). Work was professional and courteous. On the whole I was quite impressed. My only quibble is that in several spots surface appears rough due to larger pieces of asphalt with larger gaps between them (see picture). I took this up by phone with the company, who suggested that a coat of sealer might help (at extra cost), but only after current job settles and it is warmer outside, earliest in mid spring.

  • The whole process from start to finish was fantastic. Rich came to give an estimate right on time. He was patient, friendly, and answered all of our questions. His price was a little more than half of what three waterproofing companies wanted to charge just for putting in drains or sump pumps (and not including the cost of repairing the asphalt they would have to tear up). His assessment of why water was flooding our garage and how to fix it made the most sense of all the contractors we called for estimates. Rich kept in contact through the winter's bad weather to give updates on when the work could be done. He was always easily accessible and responded to emails very quickly. On the day of the work, he was present and asked if we had any questions. The crew was professional, worked hard, and left little debris (just a couple small tree roots). Rich followed up a few days later after a rainfall to make sure the drain was working properly--I don't think I've ever had a contractor follow up like that on a job. I appreciated being able to pay my bill online via credit card.

  • Vendor arrived on the date above. Informed me that they had an oil-based product which would not be appropriate to apply to the driveway as the driveway had been previously coated with a water-based product. No harm, no foul. Thanks.

  • After a few weeks of waiting they finally contacted us and said someone had looked at the drive and that we needed the cracks filling at extra cost (over $100 if I recall correctly). We accepted the upsell and waited another week or two. My wife was home when they did the work - she said it took them literally 10 minutes. When I inspected the work, the cracks were still completely visible and there were areas of the driveway that were not covered in sealant.
    I contacted the owner who said that he would examine the work personally. He got back to me pretty quickly and told me that the cracking was so bad that the filling was never going to remedy the problem and the driveway really needed to be repaved. He offered to refill the cracks and reseal at no cost. I accepted this as a compromise and they completed the reseal pretty quickly. In the end it looked just 'okay'.
    My main gripe is why did Testa upsell me on the crack filling if they knew that my driveway was in too bad a state of repair for it to give adequate results? The funny thing is if they had offered to either refund me or put the Big Deal money to repaving my entire driveway I may well have gone for the repaving, which no doubt would have cost a lot more!

  • On the first contact we had with the provider, we were informed that a company representative would come to our address to assess the condition of the driveway and let us know of additional services that may be required for a complete and thorough asphalt sealing of the driveway. That representative came when no one was home, did not leave a written note of his/her visit to the property and the recommendations for complete service. A few days following that person's visit, a voice mail message on our home line alerted us to additional services that would be required for the sealant to be placed and a good result be
    achieved. We were instructed to call the company business number to schedule an appointment for the work to be done. The provider was difficult to reach via business phone number -- the answering machine picked up my calls and returned calls were not made until a few days later on 3 occasions. Upon speaking to office staff to schedule the service, we were alerted that appointments were being scheduled several weeks in advance. Finally a date was secured for the work to be done. However on the morning of the scheduled service, after the supposed start time of the work, we received a phone call and a message was left on our answering machine stating that the service would not be provided due to materials unavailable from distributor. Several weeks went by before asphalt sealing and crack repair could be rescheduled. The date of the rescheduled work was a time when we were away on business but we were assured all care would be taken and a thorough job done. We asked if anything needed to be done by us as homeowners to prepare for the work. We were told nothing was needed, merely that we would not be able to use the driveway for 24 hours following the work.
    The work was not well done by our standards of previously completed asphalt coating and repair. The cracks were not filled, the plant materials adjacent to the driveway were left coated with a hardened tar-like substance that extended 18and quot; - 30and quot; from the edge of the driveway. No note of service nor invoice was left in the mailbox or with a neigbor. No invoice was mailed to us for the amount due in excess of the Big Deal purchase price. One week after the work was completed, on a Monday morning we recieved a phone call at 7:15 asking for a credit card number to pay for the work. We had never received written confirmation of work completed nor cost of completed work with balance due shown. We agreed we would pay in full requested a written invoice on two additional occasions, either by USPS, attached invoice to email, or via fax. No Invoice was received. After an additional 4 phone calls from a company employee asking for credit card number to pay for service in full, we stated that no payment would be made via credit card on a phone call we did not initiate, nor would balance due be paid without some physical form of invoice from the company. Finally a hand-written invoice from the owner was sent via fax. The invoice showed amount due but included no details of work done, previous payments, or date of service. There was no return address for the check to be mailed included on the invoice. When we completed an internet search for the business address for the company, two companies by the same name were listed, showing the same ownership, but with different addresses shown on each listing. Upon calling the business number listed, a recorded message from the phone company said that number was no longer in business. It was a true hassle to arrange payment, from the harassment we felt we received from office staff requesting credit card numbers when no invoice or amount due had been delivered to us to determining the correct address to send payment. Finally, after receipt via USPS of our payment by check for balance due, we received an email from an employee of the company that simply said, and quot;Thanksand quot;.
    I would not refer this company to any one else, nor will I use them in the future.

  • Mr. Nichols came during the early summer and inspected and measured our driveway suggesting a few area that needed patching before sealing then recommending that we wait to do the work until the air temperatures were consistently hotter (80s-90s) so that the sealant would dry faster and allow us to walk on the driveway sooner. He said he'd be back sometime later in the summer and true to his word, he called one evening in July  and said he'd be there the next day to do the work if it would be convenient for us. He showed up on time with 2 helpers, some hot tar and a trailer tank full of sealant, I gave them a few bottles of cool water - because it was indeed hot as Hades that day; about three hours later, he knocked on the door, said he was done and asked if I wanted to inspect the job  and give him a check or would I prefer to wait for my husband to come home and inspect it before paying him - he even offered to come by the house the next day to pick up a check if I preferred the latter. I inspected the work, found it flawless and paid him promptly. All in all, we were very pleased with his work and his work ethic. Our neighbors were also impressed with his work and we were able to give him several referrals from our neighborhood.

  • They did a terrible job and I had to go to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission before they finally completed the job. They refused delivery of registered letters as well. When they came back to repair the work, they sent a better on sight manager and they did a better job. I was not satisfied with their service.

  • A seven-man crew arrived with a big truck, a front-end loader, a roller, and other equipment such as a jackhammer. They removed some (but not all) of the old asphalt and laid down a 3 to 4 inch layer of new asphalt, which they rolled and smoothed in a very professional manner. On each side of the driveway, they tamped a sloping border. I was pleased with the job, and wondered what the other bidder could possibly have done for THREE TIMES the COST!
