  • This was a brilliant experience from start to finish!  I called Cleartree because of their high rating on Angie's List.
Estimate:   Mike was delayed to the estimate appointment due to true emergency, and he called right away to let me know he would be delayed.  He was apologetic as well, even though he was not at fault for the situation causing the delay.  He was actually at the hospital helping someone else.  He called a few times to update me on the evolving situation, and wanted to make sure I'd be around when he arrived.
Mike called again just prior to arriving, and when he showed up, he was professional and thorough in his explanation in what would be involved to remove the tree.  He explained the various options for taking the tree down (climb vs. bucket truck vs. crane, etc), the pros and cons of each, along with his suggestion for the best approach.   His overview of the company, crew, and procedures was better than anyone I've dealt with before.  He explained the proper procedures for proof of insurance, and supplied me with written proof as well as email proof from the insurance company.  By doing this, the insurance company was demonstrating his policies were current and in good standing.
Due to the danger of the tree to the house, he expedited the job and was able to come out two days later.  He indicated the crew would be out at 7:45 am, and at 7:45 am "on the dot", they arrived.  Mike was there to give the crew a final check on the work.  His crew of 5 people included (another) Mike as the crew chief/bucket worker along with 4 other ground workers.   Once they got underway, Mike the owner chatted with me one last time and then was off to do some additional estimates for other customers.
Several on the crew (including Mike the crew chief) have been with the company since it started, for over 11 years.  Mike started removing some of the lower limbs for the chipper, and he noticed I was watching.  He stopped, and I saw home lower the bucket to the truck while he fished around in a job box for something.  He handed something to a ground worker, and he came to me and I learned they offered me some earplugs from their kit so I could be comfortable and watch.
Mike went back up to the tree, and then I saw him help a tree snake (prarie king snake - very docile) down.  It was up about 30 feet on a limb.  I walked over to see it, and he asked if I wanted to hold it.  Snakes don't bother me so I took it, and walked it to some other trees on my property.
The crew worked in harmony and the tree was safely down in about 2 hours.  They cleaned up perfectly and thoroughly.  Mike (the owner) texted me right away to make sure all was good and I was happy).  I let him know that this was the best experience I've had with a company contracted for work.
I would not hesitate to call Cleartree for any future work, and they will be the first (and only call) i'll make.  No need searching for the best deal/company when I already know the answer!
(And +1 for Angie's list, they have come through yet again, as always!)

  • I called several tree services on a Saturday after our trees were blown down. Charlie from Porter tree service was the only one to call me back and he came out on Sunday to estimate the job. We scheduled the work for the following Wednesday. Charlie called Wed. morning to let us know the crew was coming that pm. The crew arrived on time and completed the job in a timely manner. I wanted the wood so they cut it into lengths for the fireplace and piled it where I asked them. They cleaned up the area spotlessly  (there was not a twig or leaf left on the lawn ). Charlie stopped by later that evening to check on the job ( we had gone out to dinner) and left a phone message to see if we were satisfied with the work. Which we were completely. We would highly recommend this tree service. They kept in contact with us to let us know the status of the work, they did a great job and left the work area spotless.

  • I worked with Russ Davis, who was professional and listened to all my concerns. Russ made several trips to my house for measurements with design changes and to address my many concerns and questions (I live close to the nursery but had never visited there). Russ considered my problems of living close to the road and put them into a workable design. He guided me through many trips through the nursery looking for plants that I liked and that would work into the landscape. He was patient and every time I called (so many times that it was embarrassing), he and Rose, the reception staff, addressed all my issues to my satisfaction. If necessary, he researched and consulted with other knowledgeable nursery staff. On the first day of planting the crew and Russ arrived to complete the job. All crew members worked very hard and paid attention to details. Since I had mistakenly had another contractor place the sidewalk a foot closer to the house, we had to make design changes and Russ returned to the nursery to pick up the necessary plants and sod to cover an additional area I chose to redo at the last minute. When the bushes I had insisted on bringing from the back yard to the landscaped area did not look right, Russ again returned to the nursery for replacements. Russ continued to remind me that I needed to leave space for the plants to grow so I would continue to enjoy the landscape in 5 years in spite of my concerns to cover all the empty spaces. I was very pleased with the results and the landscape is beautiful. I was hesitant to work with a company that I could not find anyone familiar with or that was not on Angie's List. Had it not been for Russ' demeanor, knowledge, attention to detail and tolerance for all my changes, may have chosen another company. Pinehurst has a lot to offer. Look at the website and portfolio - great designs. Of note, since the landscaping was completed, another local landscaper has stopped by to tell me how good the area looks.

  • I was very reluctant to remove the tree, as I had a picture of a stagecoach in front of our house and the tall tree could be seen in the background behind our three-story house. But as I watched one side of the tree die and it leaned over the house, I knew it had to be done. I got several estimates and had some difficulty finding a company that had the equipment to complete the job. One of the C2 owners, Chris (both owners named Chris hence C2) gave me the estimate and provided the Angie s List discount. He explained that I could complete the job whenever I wanted, but the tree would definitely fall but there was a chance it may only destroy the corner of my house. C2 seemed to have the equipment and was not overly concerned with the size and location of the tree so I decided to use them. C2 arrived with 3 very large trucks, one with a crane and began removing the tree from top down. Chris worked near the top, tying limbs the size of trees and cutting beneath them before lowering them to the ground. Some were allowed to tumble to the ground on the side away from the house. The first day they spent working down to the trunk of the tree. When they reached that point, and I saw Chris look into the hollow trunk and say, three of us could fit in here. There was only 4 thickness in the trunk holding the tree up, I knew we had made the right decision. The four-team members worked well together, laughing and providing feedback to one another. While cutting the trunk down, several chain saw blades were broken when they hit a horseshoe that was hidden from sight as it had grown in the tree approximately 70 years ago. They made no mention of the problem until the end of the day when leaving to return the next day with more equipment and chain saw blades. All crew members worked very hard, answered my questions and tolerated all the pictures we took from the 2nd story window. They were professional and looked out for one another. They had a good attitude, sense of humor and continued to work diligently, but cautiously when they were noticeable tired. When requested they positioned a shoot to blow the chipped wood into my garden for mulch. When the job was done, they raked up the wood chips and filled the holes in the yard. I kept 3 large stumps for outside tables, which they placed in locations that I chose with their crane. They are to come back and trim one limb that could not be reached. I was pleased with their work, would recommend and hire them again.

  • Work was done faster than expected, results were beautiful, attention to detail was excellent. Chris and Mike were very knowledgeable and communicated well with us throughout the project.

  • The finished product looks great and I am very happy with it. The work seems to have helped reduce if not eliminate the water intrusion problem.
