Deck Building reviews in Gwynn Oak

The Village Carpenter, Mark L., did an excellent job rebuilding my deck. I had 10 long floor boards that were rotten and needed to be replaced. The deck looked somewhat the worse for wear and needed a fresh coat of stain. Mark gave me a detailed estimate right away. He noticed that some of the wood I had purchased had not been treated properly and so he took care of that on my behalf with out increasing the estimate. He removed all the old materials. The deck now looks brand new and I feel happy every time I go out on it. The best thing about all this was that he actually followed through and did things quickly and well for exactly what he had estimated. There was none of this "and when is he coming back to finish the job," which I've experience with other contractors. He works hard and well, is friendly and reliable, and does what he says he's going to do. He has also rebuilt my front steps which was a more complex operation that I'm also very happy with. I've posted a separate review on that project under masonry.

Jeff came to provide an estimate. He set clear expectations and we decided to go ahead with the work. There were delays due to weather but their office did a great job of keeping us updated. Jeff's team came out and completed the work with minimal intrusion. They were polite, did a great job and left the work area clean. Extremely happy with the experience and would use them again without hesitation.

Paul worked with my scheduled, he started the job on Saturday,Paul andhis crew came on time, demolish the frontporch and steps, framed and stamped the concrete, day two they removed forms and clean, day three its like a brand new home everything looked so spectacular, my neighbors where stopping by taking pictures and commenting how great it all looks, the stamped design was the icing on the cake.
I would hire Maryland Curbscape again and will recommend to my friends and neighbors..all they have to do is look at the results.

It went GREAT!  George removed 2 attic doors and built new doors including the frames, installed the doors, door handles and door closure.  He removed and hauled away all debris and cleaned up after himself.  He also repaired a ceiling that required cutting out a 3x3 section of the ceiling, installing new drywall, sparkled and finished it to a paint ready state.  He hauled away all of the debris and cleaned up after himself.  Finally, he removed my entire wooden back porch.  He rebuilt the porch and installed composite deck boards for all flat surfaces and the railing.  He hauled away all debris and cleaned up after himself. George stayed in contact with us so we always knew his schedule and timing of each of our projects. George's work, work ethic and customer service are impeccable.  This is my home improvement company from now on.

As stated above, they were absolutely on the ball.Their interest in doing a high quality job showed from the very beginning. No "front man" to soften you up with a sales pitch and a bunch of promises about work that he had never done himself! You met with Mike and his brother where the rubber meets the road. Can't help but like these guys. No frills, just honest hard workers. Would use them again in a heartbeat.

My deck with its attached wheelchair ramp was constructed 3 years ago but had never received a sealing or staining coat.  I needed the ramp to have a nonskid surface to accomadate a wheelchair.  I live in an historic distirict that recommends that we use colors that match the current house.  Hands on Painters was able to respond to all of those needs.  Most of our communication was by email, although they came to my house to take a look at the job and give me an estimate.  I was pleased with their price which was much less than one I had gotten last year.  The recommended specific paints and colors for my particular needs which increased the cost a little but I believe improved the quality of the final product which I was very happy with.

The company was very sensative to my requests and arranged to do the job at a time that was convenient to me and my family. I am very happy with the price, the product and the process!

A salesman made exaggerated claims and promises that were not honored by AROCON.  The sales person left the company and it took a period of time to resolve the issues created by the sales person.  The company was professional and reasonable when it came to finding a solution to the problems.  All issues were settled amicably and in a timely fashion.

Chet Haifly was helpful, fair, and gave an exact estimate and contract within 30 minutes or less. The front porch work was done by Mike. It was quality work completed within 3 hours. The 2 carpenters who replaced head beam did work to die for. They were great, clean, and if I didn't see them work I would not believe that much was done. Mike's crew led by Manual B. were the best. Never seen such quality workers, handled 40ft ladder like they were nothing. The quality time used and clean up was A+.The office person Jason was sincere. there when you needed him. Right down to giving his cell number. What a group.

They originally installed the quarry tile over the original concrete steps.  The steps were not even so they should not have placed the tile over the steps.  They attempted to fill in the areas that were not even but it did not work.  The quarry tile started falling off the steps in 2009.  They also installed a separate set of concrete steps from the sidewalk to my porch.  The original steps were 5.5 inches and they made them 8-8.5 inches without consulting me - the steps are not even.  Those steps are now too high.

On the day he was to start the work, he never showed up. We called and left messages for a week asking him where he was. A few days later, he finally showed up, saying he was caught up in other jobs. He took some measurements, then left. A week later, I returned home and saw that they had put caution tape around the patio. No one was there, but since I saw the caution tape, I assumed that they were coming back the next day to start the work. When they didn't come, I called and they told me they were working on another job again. I called them for the next few days, again receiving no answer. I eventually called them from a different phone number, which they answered, telling me they would come after they were done with the other job. Finally, a few nights later, Mr. Barnett showed up. He explained that he could not do the job for the amount he quoted us; he needed more money, $3000. He would be losing money if he did the whole job, including the rails, for $9000. He said that he would have another contractor come over to estimate the price of the rails. At that time, he said, we could determine whether we could afford them or not. The contractor came, estimated and determined that we should pay the additional $3000. After discussing the situation with my wife, I told him that we didn't want him to do the work anymore. He agreed and said he would meet us to return the deposit. Several days went by, and again, we didn't hear from him. I called him again, and no one answered the phone or responded to our messages. Eventually, I reached his son. He said he would give us the money back after they returned the materials they purchased with our deposit. I agreed and asked him to call me when the materials had been returned. I waited three days, then called him, waited four days more, and called again. When I finally reached someone, they said they had not yet had a chance to return the materials, since it had been raining. I spoke with Mr. Barnett a few days later, and he said he would give me my money back within the next week. When we hadn't heard from him for three days, my wife called him. The owner answered the phone acting like he was his son! She told him that she knew it was him and asked when they were planning to refund the money. He said he could not refund it in full because of the time, the materials, and the cost of returning them. We have still not received our deposit and work was never done. We are disappointed in how unresponsive they were and offended at the many efforts they made to avoid us.
