He refused provide proper documentation for my employer and threw a fit instead. I thought he acted callously and very unprofessionally. He gave me what I thought was a bogus diagnosis of anxiety disorder, which I have never had, and when I told him I didn't have it, he threw another "fit" (in writing) saying I am "not the one making the diagnoses here." Bad experience. He is fine if everything is straight-forward. Give it a small twist, and he loses it.

So far so good with the healing process. No signs of clots, bleeding or infection. There is bruising and for me and my family it is a lot but this also will be absorbed in time. I am looking forward to a life without heavy legs and with more walking and standing without my veins pooling my blood. Circulation has been restored? My procedure was performed in the Columbia Office.

Dr. Maslen was his usual, very friendly and cheerfully funny self, as he carefully explained and re-explained my results until I fully understood them. He valued my concerns and questions. Time was not an issue and I suspect he gave up his lunch time on my behalf.
I'm at an age where most of us have been to many physicians already during our lives and I am no different from my peer group in that regard. I mention this because I consider Dr. Maslen the, single, best physician in every way that has ever treated me or whom I have been a regular patient.
There are not enough words to express how great a physician and a person that Dr. Maslen is. It is reflected in his staff who mirror his philosophy of what being an internist and a primary care provider means, from a patient's perspective first and a physician's as well.
I was not surprised that he has been named as a physician that other physicians would go to themselves as well as send a family member for any issue.
I considered myself blessed that he is our family's physician. It is impossible to say enough good things about: Dr. Maslen, his staff and his practice.
If I could grade him higher than and quot;A,and quot; I would immediately do so.

Dr. Schachter is the most caring and giving physician I have ever known in my life.  In a big city, he provides "small town" personal care while being a superb diagnostician.
Very friendly, very medically knowledgeable and a terrific bedside manner.

Let me first say that for my individual urologist, Dr. Walid Mufarrij, in this large urology practice, I would give him and quot;Aand quot; grades through the complete checklist.
All of the urologists within a 5 mile or so range, approximately five years ago, became a group practice. In June
of 2012, they gave up the overwhelming majority of their private practices, some maintain a private practice about a half day a week at a different location, and moved into the entire 8th floor of a building as a group urology practice of over 10 urologists and their staffs. They maintained the same outpatient surgery centers at another site that they shared when the group practice was formed five years ago and is about a mile from their new group office which is the entire 8th floor of a professional building.
Your opinion of the practice will be largely determined by your relationship with your individual urologist. Dr. Mufarrij has been my urologist for years. I think he is one of the best physicians I have had in my long life. I've had interactions with another urologist in the practice and would not be treated by him in the future unless he were the only physician available such as the doctor in the on-call slot for a night.
How you view the physicians in the practice really depends on the relationship that develops with you and the urologist you're seeing.
You may like the urologist that I did not but saw when Dr. Mufarrij was on vacation. I don't mean to knock that doctor but we were simply not a good fit. Those things happen and you can request another urologist or wait for your own to return to work after a vacation, meeting, etc.
Dr. Muffarij, on the other hand, genuinely cares about his patients. He gives you time. He is patient and always offers
encouragement while being completely honest with you. To say he is a conservative physician is an understatement. He will not dole out antibiotics or order tests unless he completely believes they are necessary. He treats you as he would treat a member of his family. To me, that is the gold standard for any physician and particularly for a specialist.
The staff is a combination of all the staffs from the urologists former private practices. I didn't think this was going to work out well
initially but since the single practice opened up in June, 2012, the kinks have been shaken out about 95%, maybe a little higher. A test result may be misfiled but quickly found, etc. on rare occasions as an example of this.
Every staff member though has always treated me with the utmost of courtesy, respect and understanding for my personal situation.
My only criticisms are two-fold. First, I wish each urologist had office hours for a complete day. To the best of my knowledge, each is in the office for 3 half days a week while doing procedures and surgeries the remainder of their time, in addition to a half day or day off per week. It would be more beneficial for the patients if every urologist was in the office for a full day, one day a week, in addition to the half days that they currently are in the office.
My second criticism is that I wish the group had a third option for procedures and surgeries besides their own surgery center about a mile from the office in another professional complex and Doctors Community Hospital of Lanham, MD. It would be more reassuring, for me as a patient, if all practice members had hospital privileges at Holy Cross Hospital which has a much better overall hospital rating as well as being connected to a much larger and broader hospital network within the Washington, D.C. region and is less than 10 miles away from the practice, right off the Capital Beltway. Holy Cross has also received numerous awards for medical and patient care.
In conclusion, I think this is a top notch medical group with a staff that cares and everyone is on the same team in their commitment to patient care with gentle compassion and willingness to go the extra mile for the patient.
Overall, Mid Atlantic Urology Associates is a very good, if not outstanding group. It's more a question of finding the urologist who matches your personal needs the best. Once you do that, I think you will be very happy with the care you receive from this specialty group practice.

Dr. Maslen is thorough, attentive, and knowledgeable. He is a tiny bit too much of a stickler for the protocol, which is not the best in complex and unusual situations, but overall he is really good. His staff are good people too, even though I think that they can be a little too focused on the office's perspective of the patient, as opposed to the patient's needs perspective. On the whole, however, they are friendly, attentive, and well-organized.

I think Dr. Mufarrij is one of the best physicians and specialists I have ever known as both a patient and someone whose background is in health services.

He cares about his patients! I say that simply in the belief you will understand how meaningful and important that is. His medical knowledge and experience makes him one of the best in his field. His and quot;bedside mannerand quot; is always understanding and compassionate.

Dr. Mufarrij is a very conservative physician. If he says you do not need anything, give him your complete trust. If he says you need a procedure or a prescription, rest assured that if you get a second or third opinion, those other doctors will very likely agree with Dr. Mufarrij. He does not and quot;over-treatand quot; and he will always decide on the most conservative and safest approach to take.
His degree of knowledge is incredible. I put my complete trust in him and I would do so for everyone in my family or is dear to me. I have no hesitation in giving him my highest recommendation and commendation.

I've been going to Dr. Maslen for about 4-5 years now. After my long time physician passed away, I bounced around going through 4 or 5 doctors before I decided to go to Dr. Maslen. He was my father-in-law's doctor through his final illness and came on-board late after my FIL's previous doctor retired. I was impressed by Dr. Maslen's caring, thoroughness and the time he took with both his patients and their family members. I'm really, really comfortable with him. He treats his patients as people, not as a number or an illness or the 10 minutes between the last appointment and the next appointment.

I have been seeing him for about 4 years and he is really good at what he does. He is very kind, thorough and makes you feel very comfortable. He is incredibly talented; when he did surgery on me and had to do reconstructive work on my face you could not even tell. I will use him again in the future.

I like everything about him. He is a wonderful doctor. I'm 63 years old, and all the years of all the doctors I have experienced, this doctor still really cares about each patient. He takes his time with me. He is not in a hurry with me. When I talk, he really listens to what I say.
