    United Health Care
Over the past 5 years I have had only positive interactions with United Health Care.  When claims are submitted to the company, they have always paid the appropriate amount and have never withheld payment.  At one time I needed to call to ask about a specific prescription medication and the service representive was amazingly helpful and friendly (a far cry away from some phone service reps!)  The representative was honest and straight-forward, and even offered to call me back after she had resolved the issue.  United Health Care sends periodic preventative health care information, which is always welcomed.  They even have a 24-hour nurse questioning hotline for your medical questions and concerns.  overall, United Health Care is a step above the rest!

    United Health Care
United Healthcare has been great to us as a family for the past 14 years.  Each year we have the opportunity to swich, but we never have felt the need to.  Easy customer service and rarely been denied treatment.  Low co pays and a variety of doctors to chooos from.

    Aetna Inc
I love aetna. I have aetna insurance through my school and I can say it's the best. Their customer service reps are excellent. I had a baby early this year and so I used them a lot. The explanation of benefits/ statements they mail are very easy to understand because they break everything down. Also, I like the fact that they have a wide range of providers across the nation that accept this insurance.

The individual Aetna healthplan I chose has a $5000 deductible and pretty much covers all my wellness/regular check-ups 100%. I also purchased Accident Insurance to cover that high deductible when something unexpected occurs; Accident Insurance doesn't cost much.
I chose this particular Aetna individual plan because it was advertised as having a less than $200/month premium, given my 50-ish age and non-smoker.  One of the first issues I ran into is Aetna ALMOST DOUBLED my monthly premium due to having had neck/shoulder issues in the past.  Because I could not say honestly that my neck/shoulder issues were 100% resolved in the past, they increased my premium.  I'm 50-ish, so of course I have neck/shoulder problems occasionally.  I've never had nor needed surgery for it.
I called the phone number listed to complain about my increased premium.  I actually reached a person, who was very, very nice and helpful.  She walked me through my entire application and told me which of my answers to Aetna's questions contributed to the increased premium.  That's how I found out it was the neck/shoulder stuff.  While my premium wasn't changed, it did feel better to understand the decision process and have someone actually talk to me and answer my questions.
In using my Aetna individual health insurance, it works.  It's decent coverage.  Aetna has an enormous in-network list of providers, so it's easy to find doctors that take the insurance.  One of the other things that drew me to Aetna's policy is it included an option to cover mental health services and medications.  Turns out mental health medications of any type are excluded from the normal and regular prescription coverage.  You have to specifically add on the extra cost option of mental health coverage to even get those prescriptions.  Many other health insurance companies' individual plans did not cover those prescriptions at all.  You have to read the fine print to find that out.
It is very tough to have to go the individual health insurance route.  I do hope ObamaCare makes it better, meaning more coverage at a less expensive price.  I often wonder if I'd be saving money by paying for the health needs solely out of pocket and not have insurance.
