Garage Door Repair And Installation reviews in Frederick

  • Gary came out within 48 hours to fix our door. He got to work immediately, weighing the door, taking apart the broken spring assembly, and inspecting all the parts as they were removed. He then explained what he found and how he was going to fix it. I truly appreciated his detailed explanation as he began to make the repairs. He has been in the business a long time and his experience was very comforting. He made everything look so easy, even though I knew it wasn't! After cutting a new spring to the proper specifications (the old one was not built to last...), he had everything working in less than 30 minutes. He even had a spare electric eye to replace one of mine that was broken!! He then offered to lubricate all the moving parts. Once he was done and we tested the door - it was like new! It's the quietest it has ever been and Gary assured me the new spring will last much longer than the previous one - and he stands behind that. I would definitely recommend him for any garage doors repairs you may need.

  • The services were excellent. I have used them before and I was so pleased. He is reasonable, timely, professional, knowledgeable and cleans up everything. He took the time to explain how to use everything. I highly recommend them to anyone.

  • The tech showed me that the cables were worn and I agreed to have them replaced for $100. Then he insisted that I add safety cables before he could work on the door, and charged another $100. I thought at the time this was too much, but I didn't have the time to send him away with the door undone. I have just had a different company do a door on another house and I realize how much I was overcharged. They did safety cables of a much better quality for $30. The Family tech only spent a few minutes doing the safety cables as he already had the door propped to replace the lift cables. When I said an extra $100 was too much, he said he had to drive a long way and the company had to make money on the deal, so he obviously planned to make way more than the advertised $89. His work was very poor. The door is harder to lift after his work, the cables are low quality, and a repair he made to the support piece was jagged and now makes more noise than ever. This was an obvious bait and switch and way too high a charge for poor quality work. I contacted the company and they said I would have to pay for another visit to get things corrected. Do not use this company.

  • I called on a Monday for someone to look at my garage doors. A technician quickly came on Tuesday (they have an $89 estimate fee which is not charged if you buy the doors from them and they do the install). I was told I needed new doors. The price that was quoted was in line with prices I had researched on the internet. The replacement was scheduled for Friday, between 11am and 1pm. I waited and at 2:00pm I called the company and was told the tech was running late. After waiting several more hours, I called and was told they techs were still running late. The two technicians finally arrived at 6:00pm and worked until 11pm. However the doors would not open; they had not measured the doors correctly and needed to get special 'quick turn' adaptors from the warehouse, which of course by that time was closed and was not open on the weekend. The doors also did not seal properly (it is a brick garage) so I was offered their vinyl weatherstripping kit at $249/door. When I balked at the price, the tech offered to install weatherstripping on both doors but only charge me for one. (I later priced the stripping at Home Depot and Lowes; each strip cost $8.95 and there are 3 needed per door. That would have been $54 for the strips for both doors, and almost $450 for a 20 minute installation.) When I called the company on Monday I was told someone would be there before 3:00pm to finish the install. So I waited some more. A different tech finally called at 4:00pm saying he did not have the adaptors or the right color weather stripping and could not come that evening to work. He told me someone would call within the hour to reschedule for the next day (Tuesday). Nobody called. Tuesday morning I called the company and was told the original tech would be back to work on the doors, sometime before 3:00pm. I waited. At 4:00, after calling the company AGAIN, I was told the tech was 'running late.' The tech called at 6:00pm to tell me he was 45 minutes away but would be there that night. The tech arrived at 7:00 and worked until 9:00pm. The doors were fixed so they would open and the weather stripping was installed. However, when the old doors were taken down (Tuesday), they were put out on the curb, and I was told someone would come for them the next day with a special truck. It is now Friday morning and they are still on the curb. I will be calling the company every day until they are picked up. Oh yes, the techs used a table I had stored in the garage to work on. It was an antique and was slightly damaged from their equipment. They also split one of the door frames trying to remove the old door, which they repaired with some screws. In summary, I was told it was a one-day job. It took 5 days (including a weekend when they do not work). I had to take an extra 2 days off from work to wait for them to show up. One of the doors was installed a tad bit crooked (see image), and the tech explained it was because the floor wasn't even. I'm not sure that couldn't have been accommodated. The door frame was broken and repaired, and the old doors have not been taken away as promised. The only good news is that I was given a slight upgrade on the quality of the doors, (but only because they didn't have the model I chose in stock!) and they did not charge me for the cost or installation of the weather stripping. I was totally frustrated at their lack of timeliness. It was a big waste of my time. I would not recommend Lock and Door Solutions for garage door installation or repair.

  • I can't say enough about Gary from Doorman of Frederick. He was very prompt, knowledgeable, and personable. He recommended that we go with two springs instead of one for our two-car garage door because it would be more reliable, and he custom cut them for the perfect fit on the spot. He also adjusted the connection to the opener and the safety mechanism, and lubricated the hinges.

  • Gary was punctual, quick working, knowledgable and friendly. Considerate of customers' needs and will not fleece you with unnecessary charges. Provides used parts free of charge!! Great service, highly recommended! Make him your first call. I couldn't be happier with the service provided.

  • He was scheduled to show up on a Saturday to repair my garage door. The window for him to show up was 9am to 3:00pm -- at 2:30pm having heard nothing from him nor seen hide nor hair of him I called. Seemed they were stuck in traffic coming from Baltimore and couldn't be there for another hour. Fine, although a call would have been nice. I wait again until almost 4:30 and hear nothing from them. At that point, I needed to leave for a dinner date. At around 5:30 I get a call from Stacy. They want to tell me they are not going to get there (BIG SURPRISE) and want to know if they can come over the next morning (Sunday). I explain to her that it would have been professional of them, not to mention POLITE, to have called me earlier two and half hours AFTER they were supposed to have arrived. But since I was going to be home the next morning, I figured I would give them another chance. Once again, they didn't show or call. Completely unprofessional behavior with no respect for their client's time. I can only guess that their work would be just as unprofessional and unsatisfactory.

  • I honestly can't say enough positive things about Gary. I have hired several types of workers before from garage door repair, to electricians, to appliance repairs, to woodwork. The majority of them did subpar work or tried pulling one over on me. It is extremely difficult to find good workers today. From the moment you talk to Gary you get a sense of honesty and trustworthiness. He came within 24 hours to diagnose and fix our garage door issues while I was out of state and dealt with my wife. He was a complete professional and was upfront and honest about what needed to be done and what could be put off, how to save money, etc. And just to top it off for good measure, he saved the day for us. While he was repairing the garage door and showing my wife the issue a pipe in the garage busted and water was gushing out everywhere. He quickly got permission from my wife to enter the house and had the water off within 90 seconds. If he wasn't there at that time my wife would have been clueless with what to do. He literally saved us! I will absolutely be using him for all garage repairs from here on out and highly recommend him to anyone.

  • Alan came out right away to diagnose a broken door opener. He explained everything and gave me options for repair. I opted for a new opener and he did a great job with the new install. Everything is nice and neat. Would definitely recommend him and will use him in future if I need anything.

  • When I called Gary to schedule the appointment, he talked to me on the phone as I inspected the motor and walked me through some tests and possible fixes over the phone and told me what to inspect for wear, etc.  This guy is amazing, if we could have fixed it over the phone, I don't think he would've charge me - seriously a top notch professional in every aspect of this repair.

He came on schedule and was very thorough (not in a rush).  He even looked at the other door and did maintenance on it for the total price of around $287.  The last guy who put the oversized spring on 3 years ago, charged me over $300 just to put the wrong spring on.

I even called him the next day and told him he has a customer for life.
