    Allied-Phillips Inc
Allied-Phillips responded very quickly with a good price. I set up an appointment the next day and the technician was there within the scheduled time frame. The technician did a very good job and was very professional, but I was charged $100 for a part that I found out was around $11 or so on the Internet. I contacted the owner via email about the issue and he said he forwarded the issue to the technician and would get back to me the next week because the technician was on leave (the service was performed on 12/27, and it is now 01/05). I have not heard back from the owner and my check was cashed on 12/28.

    Horizon Services
Contacted Horizon because central AC not blowing cold air. Was told that the compressor went up and suggested a new system. Sales rep went over options and suggested a system between approx $14,000 - $16,000 for 1650 sqft home. Asked sales rep to honor $3,000 discount coupon after he gave us estimate. He said that the price was already included. This would have made the normal price $17,000 - $19,000 before rebates. This price seemed absurdly high. We were dissatisfied with the price and sales rep's response. We were called by customer svc dept and sales rep the next day for follow up. After telling them that the price was very high, they offered to discount the units. HGH came the next day for second opinion. After giving HGH service rep history, he suggested looking at compressor before discussing new AC options. He repaired a small plug on the compressor. Neither AC or the compressor needed replacing. We called Horizon CS to request a refund of service call and told them of HGH's finding. Their response on mis-diagnosis was "...we stand behind our technicians." They apologized that we were not happy and refunded the service call. Based upon our experience, I would not recommend Horizon under any circumstance.

    HGH Mechanical Inc
Was told by Horizon Heating and Air (on Angie's list) that compressor went up on AC. Called Horizon for second opinion. Prior to discussing new AC, HGH service rep suggested that he look at compressor before discussing options. The HGH rep replaced a small plug on compressor. The compressor did not need replacement. was the problem. Would not hesitate to contact HGH for service again. Honest providers are much appreciated.

    American Heating & Air Conditioning
I received an appointment in less than one day. The tech arrived on time and was very friendly. He quickly diagnosed the issue and went to see if the part might be under warranty. According to his supplier the air handler had never been "registered" so the unit wasn't warrantied in their system. The tech got a quote for the part, $1,000. Explained that if the unit had been "registered" the part would have been covered under a 10 year warranty and suggested calling the manufacture (American does not sell/rep the brand of my unit). He left and told me give him a call and let him know if I would need the part replaced. I called the manufacture on his advice and found the previous owner did pay for extended warranty contract (that wouldn't show in a suppliers database) and that the repairs would be covered. Unfortunately I have to use another hvac to complete repair so I can't give my business to American but I can definitely give them a strong recommendation. I was very impressed their service.

DUCTZ of the Upper Bay Region
The Ductz technicians showed up at the scheduled time, were courteous and took extra special care not to mark up the walls with their equipment. If you need ductwork cleaned, this is the company I would definitely hire!

    Blue Dot Services
This process was very smooth from the sale to the installation. Mario (sales) was very professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with during the entire process. The installation process went smoothly as well. The technicians arrived on time each day and were very professional, taking special care to protect the walls and floors during installation. I would definitely hire this Blue Dot team again if needed.

Metropolitan Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning
Mark was able to work me into his scheduled visits on the same day that I called to make an appointment and arrived at our home within less than an hour. He looked over the system and determined that the condensing pan had rusted through, allowing water to leak into the furnace, and through the ceiling to the hallway below. Our heating and cooling system was over 25 years old, and the parts were no longer available. Also, since water was entering the furnace, it was likely that it would soon fail. He recommended a full replacement. It was my impression that 25 years was a fully acceptable run for the system and agreed that they should be replaced. Mark was able to schedule an appointment within less than a week to install the new system and emailed a quote, including a list of the components that would be replaced. The costs seemed reasonable and I did a quick online search to confirm the approximate retail value of the elements of the new system. Marks team arrived right on time on the scheduled date and it took them a little less than four hours to complete all the work and cleanup. Removal of the old system was included in the cost, but I elected to keep the old system. I wouldn't recommend doing the same, I just like to take things apart. To my untrained eye, the old furnace did appear to be in rough shape and it was probably time for it's replacement. I would definitely recommend Metropolitan and plan to schedule yearly maintenance service with them in the future.

    American Heating & Air Conditioning
The A/C unit went out during a storm on one of the hottest weeks imaginable. I had not used a HVAC contractor before so searched for someone local. I called early in the morning and my call was quickly and courteously. I was given a time for the technician (owner) to arrive and received a call that he was on the way. He arrived, went right to work and had the problem identified within minutes. He had the necessary part in the truck and before too long the system was up and running. That you would expect from anyone who reports themselves to be a HVAC contractor. But what set American apart for me was his manner, his ability to explain precisely what he was doing, his transparency regarding cost, and his sincere interest that I was satisfied with his efforts. It meant something to him, not just a slogan.
I will use him for any future issues and replacement of my systems when the time comes.

Josh and his company were absolutely great.  Our Heat Pump /AC unit quit working the Thursday night before Memorial Day weekend.  I called first thing in the morning and added to the schedule at the end of the day on Friday.  Josh worked on the unit for about 2 1/2 hours trying to get the compressor (only 3 years old) going.  In the end we had to order a replacement to be installed after the long holiday weekend.  The unit was still under warranty, Josh took care of all the coordination with the AC unit manufacturer and got the ordered.  Josh offered to lend us a window AC unit for the weekend.  It was great that he took the time to show concern about our comfort.  It was a nice touch.  On Tuesday the part was ordered and shipped out arrived on Wednesday and American Heating & Air Conditioning installed it on Wednesday afternoon.  Josh and his company were polite, professional, and knowledgeable. They are now my go to company for AC issues in the future.
