Cesar did a great job repairing some water damage around a window on our old home and fixed another contractors poor job on a door installation. We had tons of air leakage around our door from the first contractors install and Cesar completely fixed it for us! :)

    Energy Wizard

I'm delighted with all the work Energy Wizard did.  Marirose's design expertise was invaluable and John's construction teams were totally professional, polite, did top-quality work, cleaned up every day, worked through miserably hot weather, and kept at it until every detail was done to my satisfaction. They also disposed of all the old materials (including recycling what could be recycled).

Most of the materials were special order due to the colors we wanted and the Capozzis made sure all the different suppliers' materials were compatible.

I highly recommend Energy Wizard -- and I'm a perfectionist.

They did the work there were some deficiencies, they corrected some of the deficiencies they promised to correct the rest. That promise was made in early December, they have stopped returning my emails and what have you so I'm gonna assume they're not gonna correct the rest of the deficiencies.

I feel words are not adequate to describe Mr. Dayson Schafer and his team (Travis and Ryan).  From first contact with Dayson in May 2015 when I received an estimate until the final installation and then follow-up call has been fantastic.  This is a small, family-owned company but Dayson really does work hard at getting in touch with everyone as quickly as he can.  But keeping that in mind sometimes you may need to reach out more than once - but let me tell you it is worth it.  Dayson's professionalism and integrity is something that you don't find every day.  His grandfather has taught him well :-)  In each conversation I had with Dayson, I knew and felt he was a straight shooter - and while yes he is running a business - he is not out to gouge your pockets.  He was nice enough to look at a few items at my house during the first estimate even though they were "down the road" projects.  He gave me honest answers on what he thought could wait and not wait and how to "make it through" till the funding was available for the next project.  We spoke about everything from the door he came to quote to some issues with the siding on one side of my house.

While we did have a longer than anticipated wait on the door being manufactured, Dayson was apologetic the entire time (for things outside his immediate control).  He kept me informed the best he could.  I remained patient because I found I really trusted Dayson and couldn't imagine working with someone else.

On the day of installation, Travis and Ryan were to the house first and got to work immediately.  All the while dealing with me asking tons of questions :-)  They were patient with me and so nice to talk to.  They explained everything they were doing very well and answered all my questions to my satisfaction.  Dayson was "in and out" throughout the installation and portico fix but was just a phone call away if I had a question.  I did question the portico a little bit and both Travis and Dayson explained the process a bit more - replaced a bit more than originally estimated - all to ensure I the customer felt confident in there work.

Before they left, we did talk a bit more about the issue I had with my siding when the weather changes - They were nice enough to climb up the ladder and fix it at no charge.  Eventually it may need replaced but they were so helpful in explaining what they saw and how this should keep me from being on a ladder in the cold and wind :-)

Dayson has also followed up with me via phone and email about the work.  We just talked recently as he stands behind his work.  My screen door is a little "tight" so he has said he would come to adjust it.  I also sent him a photo of a bend in my screen door, I am not sure if it was there or if it happened later and he said he would address that as well..  While I am in no rush, he stands by his work and will be out in the next few weeks to address these minor things.

We have had a few rains since the install and I have no more leak in my door :)

I can't imagine working with anyone else as I go forward on the type of work he does.  This is a first class company and it was so nice to work with them.

    Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc
Job was performed last winter beginning December 2013-January 2014, approximately.
After the job was completed, I noticed a leak in our sunroom.  We have a new roof so I called the original roofing contractor to come look at the problem since our roof was under warranty.  The leak was caused by Taylor Custom Contracting.  They removed a satellite dish (per my request) and simply put new shingles over the patched area (that did not match the existing shingles).  The underneath was not sealed properly.  Also, when the new siding was installed they failed to replace the j-channel, that was originally there, and did not caulk properly and this allowed water to get into the sunporch area, also attributing to the leak.  In addition, when the siding was being installed, the installers used a ladder that they nailed into our brand new roof causing small holes in my new roof.  Also causing damage that would eventually lead to water getting under the shingles and leaking.  When I called Taylor Custom Contracting to talk with them about the damage they caused, they offered to repair the damage for free?however, my original roof warranty would be voided unless I used my original roof contractor.  Taylor Custom Contracting contacted my roof contractor and negotiated $200 off the $1800 repair bill, but has refused to pay for the damage they caused.  Also, without getting up on the roof and looking Kevin from Taylor Custom Made offered to fix my sunporch with estimates ranging from $5,000-$10,000.  Saying it was being caused by ice damming.  After actually getting up on the roof and doing a proper inspection, that when it was discovered that the siding job was the cause of my house damage.  Glad I had a 2nd opinion!  He was trying to charge me for work I did not need and still wasn't going to repair the job properly!
My roofing company took pictures and showed me how the damage was caused by the siding installation, but Taylor Made CustomContracting refused to pay for damage they caused.  I did not want them to work on our house any more and possible not repair it properly.  Also, my siding along the back of my house is now warped.  After having that inspected by another contractor, they agree that siding was not properly installed.  I have everything in writing from all companies involved.

IN RESPONSE TO TAYLOR MADE'S COMMENTS BELOW:  I DID NOT ask him to purchase materials for another job.  He offered to do so to save me money.  I, however, did not use him to purchase my materials.  I hired the other contractor, also through Angie's list, and used him from beginning to end on the other project (a bathroom remodel).  My other job did have some issues.  I asked Taylor Made as a favor to look at my bathroom project just for a second opinion.  The contractor that was doing the bathroom remodel completed my master bathroom job perfectly and I gave him a stellar review on Angie's list.  My costs were high on the other job because I used high end materials that I chose myself.  As for the other work on my house, Taylor Made never even got up on my roof to look at the damage.  He assumed it was ice damming because that's what my neighbor thought it was?who also had not gotten on the roof, but suggested I contact my roofing company, which is what I did.  There was not too much ice to see at the time?it was melting, which is why there was water pouring in my sunroom!  I do not appreciate his lies or his personal attacks.  He recently wrote me an email stating that I did not need the money he owed us, which is why he mentioned that I was calling from our beach house.  My next step will be to file a formal complaint with Angie's list and go through their  complaint resolution process.  I have documentation from my roofing company that the damage was caused by Taylor Made and also that Taylor Made called them to get the price reduced, which they did.  I also have emails from Taylor Made where he said he would pay us after I gave him a good review.  When he refused to pay us, I simply told the truth about our experience.

    Old New England Carpenter
He is an excellent carpenter, he takes his time and does it right, and he stays with it until it is complete. He is not jumping around to other jobs and things like that. If people want quality work, he is an excellent work. He may be pricier, but he does quality work, and I figured that before I went in, because I read on Angie's List, and he did what he said, and didn't disappoint at all. When I contacted him, he was doing a job, it took him about a week before he came over, looked at everything that I wanted, and about 5 days later, he came back with a proposal. I said fine. This house is probably over 100 years old, and he ran into things he didn't expect, but he never waived from the price. There were extra trips to do things that he needed to finish, and he never changed the price. If that had been somebody that was an amateur, or somebody who did not have the experience that he did, this job would not have been done to my satisfaction. He made it all look new, and I considered it a safety item. I didn't not compare the prices to anybody else, but I have no qualms about the price.  When he spoke to me and explained everything that he had to do, he did it, and he ran into problems, and it took him an extra 6 hours for him to do, and there was never any waiver of the contract. I paid in 3rds, when he finished in parts. He said I should pay in a third when he started, a third when he was half way through, and a third when he finished. I was happy with that, and he was happy with that. I have been with my daughter looking at new homes, and the workmanship cannot compare. It would be hard to beat the quality he did. He and his son work together, and they took measurements, looked at everything, and got the materials that he thought was needed. When he came with the proposal, everything was broken down. Once he started, they stuck to the job. He left the door unpainted until the weather warmed up, and it took 3 coats, so he took it off one day, and he brought it back the next evening. He said he would be here at 8:00, he was here at 8:00, if he said he would be here at 8:30, he would be here at 8:30. I told him I have a masonry job that I don't want to get done right now because of the freezing temperatures, so when the spring comes, I will get in touch with him, and he said it is fine.

    Carls Door Service Inc
I was interested in a very beautiful (more expensive) set of doors, which they could have sold me and said nothing about. However, after pointing out that they weren't really suited for the brick rancher style of house, they suggested a less expensive design which looks even better with a rancher than the doors they replaced. Also, they noticed a dent in one door after putting it up (I didn't until they showed it to me), and replaced the door for no extra cost. Would definitely use again.

Great attitude, great job, reasonably priced, and punctual. As a further note, I want to mention how I found Ray. I was looking on Angie's list for a handyman to do my project, and I decided to use the handyman who had the top rating. I will not mention names, but dealing with this guy was a nightmare. Phone calls not returned. Tried to give estimate over the phone, without looking at job, made appointment to come out to look at job, and changed date and time at least twice. Tried to get me to mail him $200 as a down payment before even looking at job (to a P.O. Box, yet).

NEVER showed up to look at job, and the last straw was when I told him what week I got off of work early, so that I could meet him where he had another job going on. I told him to call me and that I could take lunch any time. He called a week later, after my schedule had changed. I was looking again and found Ray. I left a description of my problem on his web site, and received a call from him that evening. Can you believe it? I was promptly set up with an appointment for him to look at the job, was then set up with a work appointment, and was greeted in every case with punctuality.  I can't say enough about him, his co-worker, and his company. My wife was holding a baby shower in the basement a week later, and we were up against the wall because of all the jerking around from the other guy, so Ray was a life saver. I highly recommend him.

    Providence Construction Services
To summarize: Do not use Providence Construction Services. The work was slow, sloppy and disorganized. The contractor did not complete the job. The contractor was difficult to work with.
Here are the details. The initial visit from the owner of Providence went well. We had known the owner casually from church, and he said he could use the work. His quote was competitive and we thought he would give us a good product. We wanted to purchase Ikea kitchen cabinets, which he had never installed before, but he was confident he could do the work. He was given installation guidelines and an installation dvd to review before he started construction. We provided a CAD drawing of the kitchen with dimensions, and a sketch of the overall space. We were given a contract to sign, and we did. An initial schedule was provided allowing 4 weeks for all construction of the new spaces to be demolished and re-built.
We were never given a copy of the signed contract. After 8 weeks of construction, the project was still not complete. We never received schedule updates. The site was not cleaned unless we cleaned it ourselves. The base cabinets were not ready for template even though he knew in advance the date that Norwood Marble and Granite was coming out (and he promised the cabinets would be ready). He did not layout the cabinets correctly, and we had to go back to Ikea to purchase replacement cabinets for the cabinets that he damaged by drilling into them incorrectly. Things were out of square, walls were added that we did not have on the plan (and we were not asked to approve prior to him building them). The details were neglected. He sent his helper away from our job to start another project. He came late most days (8:30/9) even though start time was supposed to be 8, and left most days at 4pm. He took off the day after 4th of July, even though he was running behind schedule. He became defensive every time we asked questions about how work was going to be completed. He argued when we pointed out work that he did wrong - not following the drawings we provided. EVERYTHING was at least 1/4and quot; off.
We paid 2 draws on the project totaling $18,000.00 plus $1,175.00 in extra charges to the plumber and electrician. We were given 2 bills for extra work due on receipt even though our contract terms were 1/3, 1/3, and balance due upon completion. When we questioned the extra charge of 9 hours for framing and drywall of a 5' by 9' wall (which we observed only took 3 hours at the most because the electrician was here at the same time to install an outlet on the wall), he refused to question his helper who performed the work. He packed up the materials and tools and left the job. We found out later that the sub-contractors had been paid in full for their work. The electrician came back and finished the job. We had to pay a new plumber to complete the plumbing because the plumber did not return our phone calls. Providence Construction sent us a bill for an additional $2,500.00 because he is choosing to ignore the contract and changed it to a and quot;time and materialsand quot; bill, charging us for drill bits, saw blades, and other materials that he took with him to name a few of the items. Then he charged us as if he paid the electrician for the extra electrical work, when in fact we paid the electrician directly for that work.
We had other carpenters came through to give us estimates to complete the work. We were told it would take at least 40-60 hours time and materials to finish the work. And no one could start for at least 3 weeks. My husband is handy and had tools, so he took apart the cabinets, fixed the walls and floors, and then finished the installation. I painted everything. We went back and forth to hardware stores and Ikea buying items to finish as much of the job as we could. The reputable contractor we hired to finish the work we can't do is available to start in September. We both took a week off from work to get our kitchen ready for the second countertop template appointment.
Providence Construction left a family of 4 with an unfinished space - no kitchen, no powder room. Here is a detailed list of the work he didn't do:
    -unfinished plumbing
    -unfinished electric
-no gas line for the range
-no heat in the new space
-cabinets not level with shims sticking out everywhere
    -walls not square
    -flooring not finished or trimmed
    -no base trim
-window apron installed too wide so the faucet could not be installed
-no vinyl siding around the newly installed smaller windows, just exposed wood
-the exterior frame and sash still in place, not properly removed when the new window was installed (just plywood filling the gap between the new window and the old sash)
-storm door taken off and laying on the deck outside
-exterior door jamb cut at the bottom (needs to be completely replaced now)
-100 year old wainscot ripped out on a wall that was not to be touched (he didn't repair it)
-a gash in our refrigerator cabinet end panel
    -trash thrown in a knee-wall
-100-year-old trim around our dining room door ripped off and thrown out (which he didn't need to touch)
    -no kick-plates or cabinet trim
    -no knobs on cabinets
    -no range hood
    -no toilet or sink
    -no dishwasher installed
-nothing painted to completion - walls and ceiling were only primed

They did a good job and I liked their cost.  I think their quality of work is good as well but I don’t think their good at follow through.  I will use their services again in the future.
