    Powell Contracting Company Inc
Contractor Tim (the owner) and his son showed up on 10/24/18 and begin work on replacement my deck railing with a privacy railing. After a few hours Tim stated they needed to go get supplies. He requested a check for about half of the project costs ($675). The next day (10/25/18) they came back and did some work while I was not home. Haven't seen on heard from him since. The check was cashed on 10/25/18. Emails and voicemails have gone unanswered. My deck has no railing on a portion of it currently. They took my money and left the project unfinished (see pictures).

    JD Michael Construction Inc
We, 500 Majestic Properties, have worked with JD Michael Construction for over two years on several projects. Our most recent project was the complete renovation of 1723 Carrs Mill Rd. Joe, from JD Michael, was involved in every aspect of the project, from initial renovation analysis, budget generation/management, permitting, and beyond. Their primary role was as GC, managing the overall schedule, subcontractor work force, materials management, and interface with local permitting/inspector community. Due to the size and complexity of this effort, JD Michael also performed many general construction activities, to include framing, general carpentry, painting, tiling, cabinetry installation, and more. Beyond excellent workmanship and communication skills, JD Michael was very diligent in their selection of the subcontractor workforce and managed them without scheduling or timing conflicts. On the occasion when a subcontract needed special attention, JD Michael quickly and professional dealt with the vendor to resolve any issue to insure the work was performed in a timely manner with no interruption to other vendors or schedules. We are about to start on another renovation project and weve already signed the deal to work with JD Michael Construction.

    Welcome Home Decks
After multiple estimates (some higher, some lower), we looked at their work from a just completed job and decided on Welcome Home Decks. John Manzari is his own salesman. His straight forward answers addressed all our "pro" and "con" questions concerning materials and design. From start to finish John and his crew's performance was excellent on our build. We're more than satisfied with the quality of the materials and their craftsmanship. Wet weather delayed the completion by only a few days. John was actively involved and kept us up to date on our timeline. His crew was punctual, professional and left the jobsite clean after every work day. Deck was on budget and on time. We highly recommend Welcome Home Decks.

    Solid Brick Contracting LLC
We want to provide feedback about our mixed experience with Oscar and Solid Brick Contracting (SBC). They were contracted to demolish and build a new patio along with landscaping of planting beds. Oscar was able to start work the beginning of June, which was ten days earlier than expected. The crews were diligent, hardworking and knowledgeable producing a quality product. We were so impressed with their work that we negotiated to replace our concrete driveway before the patio was completed. The estimates for both projects were very reasonable. While the patio was completed, there was a follow up required to extend the underground drainpipe that was connected to the downspout. The landscape borders turned out great. The weather was not helpful and delayed our driveway construction. Once started during the last week of July, the demolition took a day longer than expected followed by rain that filled the excavated area. The excavated material was placed next to the driveway for grading of the adjacent yard area. The concrete was eventually poured after forming was completed just after noon on Friday. It was a long day for the crew working from about 7:00 a.m. until after 11:00 p.m. (including a few hours for curing before brushing the surface). Oscar and the crew came out the next day (Saturday) and partially removed the framing. In good faith we made the last payment with an understanding that they would be back Monday to complete the work. Unfortunately, they did not return for several weeks. To allow the concrete to properly cure, we did not park on the driveway for a week (during the Fourth of July week). The rest of the wood framing and yard grading was not done until the end of August. In doing the driveway excavation, they accidentally hit one of the landscape border walls. They repaired it while grading the side yard. While they tried to repair the wall, it still needs attention due to loose blocks. One corner of the patio is loose as well, possibly from bringing the equipment in to excavate for the drain pipe extension. We have contacted Oscar several times to complete these follow up items and seem to be on the back burner. These really need to be repaired before winter brings the freeze thaw cycles that will make the situation worse. We have been waiting patiently through August and September. Our neighbors were so impressed with SBCs work that they contracted with Oscar to demolish and replace their patio. The construction of their patio also took longer than expected along with a drainage problem at their basement entrance. A crew finally return to our neighbors to start a repair to stop water from entering the house. That repair is still not yet completed. Our neighbors and us discussed these things and the time to correct problems. Obviously, our neighbors drain repair takes precedent and should be completed before Oscar completes repairs at our house. While we are thrilled with our projects, our biggest dissatisfaction is the lack of attention to promptly follow up on correcting problems.

    Welcome Home Decks
Wonderful experience. We had thought about a deck reconstruction for years. Told ourselves we would do it eventually. The task just seemed too daunting. We did a few internet searches and each time - Welcome Home Decks was one of the first websites to hit. We liked what we saw on the website -- the pictures and the ideas connected. So I emailed requesting a quote and within a couple of days had a scheduled appointment. John visited us on one of the coldest days in years. We walked around outside looking at our current set-up and discussed what would make sense moving forward. John laid out a comprehensive plan. We were impressed & agreed to move forward. His review was well detailed and it was obvious he put a lot of thought into it. He was responsive and courteous to our desires. Lets get to the demo & build. What a great crew. John has a good group of guys working for him. It is obvious they all get along with each other. They were extremely polite and worked hard all day regardless of the weather conditions. Clear they knew what their task was and knew how to complete it. The crew showed up when they said they would and worked until it was time to go home. Very responsive to anything we requested. The finished work is amazing as well. We could not be more pleased. The sad part is I do not think we will have a need to use John's services again, at least with a deck. So, if I can help drum up additional business for him, I will. If you are looking for deck work, do yourself a favor and at least contact Welcome Home Decks.

    Welcome Home Decks
John and his crew enlarged and replanked or 24 year old deck. Couldn't have been a better experience. John explained everything in the planning and process perfectly. His crew was great and cleaned up every day after finishing and kept our driveway clear to use. They finished the job a day early to boot! The new Azek decking looks great. His price was the lowest quoted but I would have hired them even if they were higher. Thanks John Ed and Cindy K.

    MPW Painting/Maryland Pro Wash
Tony and the guys at Maryland Pro Wash did the most amazing job washing and painting the house. I had found them on Angie's List and initially was surprised that they did interior painting since I'd heard about them previously as a power wash company. Thankfully, since it was winter, they had time to fit our project into their busy schedule. WOW. It's amazing how fabulous everything looks now. Our house is transformed! Not only was the work done extremely well, but the work crew was great. In the 3 days MD ProWash was here, probably 5 different guys were on job site. Each was extremely professional, courteous, and did an excellent job. Pros they certainly are. Looking forward to working with them again. Now I'm starting to wish we weren't moving it looks so great!

    Energy Wizard

I'm delighted with all the work Energy Wizard did.  Marirose's design expertise was invaluable and John's construction teams were totally professional, polite, did top-quality work, cleaned up every day, worked through miserably hot weather, and kept at it until every detail was done to my satisfaction. They also disposed of all the old materials (including recycling what could be recycled).

Most of the materials were special order due to the colors we wanted and the Capozzis made sure all the different suppliers' materials were compatible.

I highly recommend Energy Wizard -- and I'm a perfectionist.

    Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc
Job was performed last winter beginning December 2013-January 2014, approximately.
After the job was completed, I noticed a leak in our sunroom.  We have a new roof so I called the original roofing contractor to come look at the problem since our roof was under warranty.  The leak was caused by Taylor Custom Contracting.  They removed a satellite dish (per my request) and simply put new shingles over the patched area (that did not match the existing shingles).  The underneath was not sealed properly.  Also, when the new siding was installed they failed to replace the j-channel, that was originally there, and did not caulk properly and this allowed water to get into the sunporch area, also attributing to the leak.  In addition, when the siding was being installed, the installers used a ladder that they nailed into our brand new roof causing small holes in my new roof.  Also causing damage that would eventually lead to water getting under the shingles and leaking.  When I called Taylor Custom Contracting to talk with them about the damage they caused, they offered to repair the damage for free?however, my original roof warranty would be voided unless I used my original roof contractor.  Taylor Custom Contracting contacted my roof contractor and negotiated $200 off the $1800 repair bill, but has refused to pay for the damage they caused.  Also, without getting up on the roof and looking Kevin from Taylor Custom Made offered to fix my sunporch with estimates ranging from $5,000-$10,000.  Saying it was being caused by ice damming.  After actually getting up on the roof and doing a proper inspection, that when it was discovered that the siding job was the cause of my house damage.  Glad I had a 2nd opinion!  He was trying to charge me for work I did not need and still wasn't going to repair the job properly!
My roofing company took pictures and showed me how the damage was caused by the siding installation, but Taylor Made CustomContracting refused to pay for damage they caused.  I did not want them to work on our house any more and possible not repair it properly.  Also, my siding along the back of my house is now warped.  After having that inspected by another contractor, they agree that siding was not properly installed.  I have everything in writing from all companies involved.

IN RESPONSE TO TAYLOR MADE'S COMMENTS BELOW:  I DID NOT ask him to purchase materials for another job.  He offered to do so to save me money.  I, however, did not use him to purchase my materials.  I hired the other contractor, also through Angie's list, and used him from beginning to end on the other project (a bathroom remodel).  My other job did have some issues.  I asked Taylor Made as a favor to look at my bathroom project just for a second opinion.  The contractor that was doing the bathroom remodel completed my master bathroom job perfectly and I gave him a stellar review on Angie's list.  My costs were high on the other job because I used high end materials that I chose myself.  As for the other work on my house, Taylor Made never even got up on my roof to look at the damage.  He assumed it was ice damming because that's what my neighbor thought it was?who also had not gotten on the roof, but suggested I contact my roofing company, which is what I did.  There was not too much ice to see at the time?it was melting, which is why there was water pouring in my sunroom!  I do not appreciate his lies or his personal attacks.  He recently wrote me an email stating that I did not need the money he owed us, which is why he mentioned that I was calling from our beach house.  My next step will be to file a formal complaint with Angie's list and go through their  complaint resolution process.  I have documentation from my roofing company that the damage was caused by Taylor Made and also that Taylor Made called them to get the price reduced, which they did.  I also have emails from Taylor Made where he said he would pay us after I gave him a good review.  When he refused to pay us, I simply told the truth about our experience.

    Excel Fencing & Decking
The job could have gone smoother.  Charlie knew I had just been through a bad experience with a previous contractor, and I definitely do not like confrontation. Unfortunately, this overall experience left me feeling defensive once again.  First he told me on the phone he could give me an estimate in the $5,000s to beat the competition.  Then the estimate came in at $6250 including a 5% discount for paying with cash.  I was desperate and tired of getting estimates and decided to go with him anyway.   Then, he ordered my supplies and had them delivered to my driveway before my permit was issued. He told me it could be up to 10 days before it was issued (and I am thinking; if it is issued at all).  Luckily the delay was only one day.  The crew came to work Thursday and dug the footers.  They also worked Friday and built the frame. A winter storm was predicted for Sunday night, which everyone knew   However, the crew left all their big tools and supplies out in the yard. And they did not volunteer to work Saturday, which was a beautiful warm day. Then, it snowed as predicted Sunday night and they did not come Monday.  My kids could not play in the yard all weekend.  It is Wednesday now and they just finished. The deck looks good but I had some concerns about siding. I pointed out a large loose piece of siding they had cut to put in flashing, and asked if he could secure it. He snidely told me," I'm not here to fix your siding."  I had also asked earlier if he would cut 2 pieces of siding for me to replace 2 broken pieces bordering the deck.  Not too much to ask, right?  But it was not cut because his blade broke.  No offer to come out later and fix it.  As with the previous "bad contractor," they underestimated the time it would take and wanted to settle up after the end of a long day,  The settling up experience made me uncomfortable as it was raining and we had the confrontation about the siding.  My yard and driveway is left now a muddy mess. I guess I can't blame them for the yard, but maybe they could have put out cardboard or something.  Maybe they will come back tomorrow and clean my driveway and sow some grass......right.
