  • We paid for an inspection and they didn't get on the roof. They just said everything was old and needed to be replaced. Turns out everything was fine and we had it repaired for less than the cost of their inspection.

  • Great! Came the next day, quickly checked the chimney and did not find a problem, also checked my fireplace chimney. Clean and neat, put down a mat before he came inside. Had a cap on the truck, installed easy and fast. Reasonable.

  • Work was done in two phases.
    First the Roof:
Work started on Dec. 9th and was competed on Dec. 11th
Materials were delivered just as scheduled on Dec. 7th and stacked on the roof.  Before putting down the new shingles the old roof had to be removed.  This consisted of scrapping off two layers of shingles and tar paper to get down to bare wood.  Bad sections of wood were replaced.  I was impressed with the carpentry skills of the gentleman who replaced the plywood. The new roof consisted of installing ice & water shield, synthetic underlayment, new drip edge starter strip on roof perimeter, new pipe boots, flashing and putting in a ridge vent besides new shingles.  Also included was construction of  a small cricket adjacent to the chimney to help keep water from leaking in around the chimney and closing off one gable vent.  Originally included in the contact was reinstallation of  a new antenna and mount (supplied by me), but I started having concerns about the wiring and grounding being connected according to standards since nobody on the crew seemed to have had experience putting up antennas.  Mr. Garner did come and look at the system and do some research in order to install it, but after finding an antenna installation person and getting a separate estimate he agreed to adjust the price to eliminate the charge for the antenna installation.  I do feel they could have done a better job at protecting my landscaping.  They did put up tarps, but they were laid directly on the plants and pieces of material were dropped onto the plants.  Areas where they had removed shingles but didn't get the underlayment down were covered with tarp until the work could be finished.
    Second the Siding:
Materials were delivered on Dec. 19th, but due to all the rain in December work started on Jan. 4th and was completed on Jan. 6th.  Mr. Garner did call the nights before whenever work would need to be rescheduled because of the weather.
Work consisted of removing the old aluminum siding, removing gutters, downspouts and shutters, installing house wrap, flashing tape around all windows, installing new insulated siding with all related details and accessories, new gutters and downspouts and gutter guard and new soffits.  The existing shutters previously removed were replaced. A different crew was used for the siding work than from the crew that did the roof work. I think this crew could also have done a better job of protecting the landscaping around the house.  They did not put any tarps up and some of their equipment went right into my bushes.  Other than the lack of care with my plants I did feel that the crew had good skills.  I was impressed when they used one continuous piece of fascia above my bow window rather than five separate pieces as the previous contractor had done.  Also required was temporarily disconnecting the electric and phone lines from the house in order to get the siding materials behind them.  No power was lost while this took place.  They readily redid the finish work around one of the roof gables so that the construction would match (each gable had been done by a different crew member).  After the job was completed, I noticed that some of the gutter guard wasn't laying flat in one of the gutters.  Mr. Garner sent someone over within the week to fix the issue.
They did a pretty good job of cleaning up the debris, but I am still finding small pieces of asphalt and siding material in the mulch around the house.
A supervisor was pretty much on site at all times.  Only once did an issue come up after the supervisor had left. The crew had brought sheets of particle board to replace the plywood that was removed from the roof.  I showed them that the contract called for plywood to be used, not the particle board brought.  A quick phone call to the main office fixed the situation.  The supervisor was on site for all of my other concerns and readily answered all my questions.  He gave me a good lesson in roofing and siding construction.
During the contract negotiations all of my questions were answered in a timely manner via e-mail and phone.  Answers were clear and revised contracts were sent quickly.  I found the contract to be very detailed and each phase of work broken out so that I could select exactly which work I wanted done.  Compared to the other estimates received Garner Roofing had the best itemized contract.
Overall I am happy with the work done. (The B in quality is due to the lack of care with the landscaping.)

  • My husband and I hired this company to install our pellet stove that we had acquired from my grandparents when they gave up housekeeping.  My parents and several friends had used them to clean their chimney's and do some other fireplace related items in their house, so I felt that they were a reputable company.  Their website said that they could do installations and I even called and clarified this with the company before having scheduling them come out and take a look.
My first experience with the company was good.  My husband had left me a list of questions to ask, which I did, and all of which were answered.  The tech asked us to move the pellet stove into the house, have it placed where we wanted it (and to where it was safe according to manufacturer's instructions which he didn't know), provide it a designated electrical outlet and then they would come back and give the official estimate.
The second time the tech returned to give the estimate he looked at everything, did some measuring and explained what he would do when he returned once we had signed off on the contract.  On this visit, I failed to notice that he didn't use a stud finder to see if the pipe was going to work where he said he was going to put it - my fault, but I didn't notice it at the time.
On the installation day, my husband was there with them during the install instead of me - he works with contractors all day for his job, so I knew he would monitor how everything went.  He called me when it was "complete" and was not a happy person!  This is where it really went down hill.  The tech showed up and actually decided to use his stud finder.  Come to find out, where he wanted to put the pipe originally was directly over a stud, so they had to move the pellet stove, which then caused our new electrical outlet to be in the way (which we had paid for to have put in by someone else).  My husband offered to completely remove the outlet before the tech cut his hole in our wall, but the tech said that it would be fine.  The hole cutting process was terrible - he didn't have the right tool to cut a proper hole, so he used a saw.  When he placed the pipe through our wall and covered it with the plate, it touched our new electrical outlet that my husband had said he would move.  On the outside of the house the pipe was sticking out about 2 feet - it looked horrible - and during the original estimate the tech had told me it would stick out no more than 12 inches!  When it was time for him to leave, he actually told my husband that he wouldn't use it because of the electrical outlet being in the way.  Seriously?!  My husband had offered to move it and he said it wouldn't be a problem.
So now we had a pellet stove that was supposed to be completely installed and working, and it was neither.  My husband had to ask an electrician friend to help him how to properly move the outlet without leaving a huge hole in our wall and without needing the tech to un-cement the pipe cover from our wall.  Luckily he was able to do this on his own and we didn't have to pay anyone.  The pipe was still obnoxiously long though and so my husband called Piccadilly to come out and fix it to the length they had said.  That was last week and they were scheduled to come out on Saturday to fix it, or so we thought.  When the tech got to our house, we discovered he was only there to measure, so the pipe is still not fixed.  However, we have a few other problems that really bother me with this company.  While we were waiting for our pipe to be shortened last week we decided to try it out since we were told as long as the electrical outlet was moved it would work.  We ran it two nights, with the first night being alright, no real problems noticed at the time, however the second night went horribly.  My husband turned it on while I was at work and when I got home it smelled like there had been a fire and all the doors and windows in the house were open (on a 20 degree evening).  At the time, my husband thought that the fan had blown which triggered the stove to think that there was a power failure and turn off which backs all of the smoke up into the house.  However, after further examination he found a second pipe in the back which is the fresh air intake pipe.  Nothing was ever said to us about this being there and needing to be hooked up!  The tech never even looked at this pipe either of the times he came out to our house.  Once my hubby found this he did some digging and found out that the stove will overheat with this pipe being hooked up to bring in fresh air from the outside into your house.  To make matters worse, the original pipe that was installed had a sticker on it that said it needed to be caulked to the fitting on the back of the stove.  On Saturday when the tech came out, my husband asked him why it wasn't.  The tech's answer was that he had used it differently and so it didn't need to be caulked.  Well guess what...if the pipe isn't caulked it will leak carbon monoxide into your house while your stove is running.  So in other words, my family could have died if we had left the stove running while we were asleep.
This company has absolutely no clue what they are doing when it comes to installing a pellet stove.  We signed a contract for having a pellet stove installed - not even knowing that they would install it but it would be dangerous to use.  I am extremely disappointed with this company and have given them several chances to fix the issue which they have not, and don't seem to understand the gravity of what they did in my home.  I handle reviews for the company that I work for and do not like seeing the blown up reviews unless we absolutely deserved it.  I waited and even gave this company several chances to explain themselves and we just keep getting excuses.  I will be turning them in to the BBB due to the dangerous situation that they left us in, and I will never use this company again.

  • Called the 800 number to set up service and the phone rang over 20 times and I just hung up.  Then called the local Harford Co number and got the same thing.
If this company can't answer a phone I don't want them working on my home.

  • They were able to start the initial work immediately, and it was completed in a day.  Roof was inspected and cleaned,  flashing was resealed and vents were resealed and painted.  Masonry repairs were made to brick chimney and several courses repointed.  In addition to contracted work, they also sanded and painted an addition chimney at no charge.  Area was cleaned and swept before they left.  Due to speed and quality of first job, they were contracted to make repairs to a cracked block retaining wall next to driveway, which were begun within two weeks.  They first removed old coat of parge, then covered and anchored entire wall with wire mesh and applied two coats of parge with brushed finish, with waterproofing to follow when weather permits.  Job took about four days in all.  Driveway was cleared and all debris removed each day prior to their leaving.  In addition to contracted work, they also made some repairs to garage siding at no charge.  We have been completed satisfied with all work performed, and would recommend them without any reservations.

  • Eric Stinebaugh returned my first call within 24 hours, and came to my home 2 days later. He reviewed the work we needed, gave us a written detailed estimate and was forthcoming and honest with start time and weather related temperature standards for concrete and mortar work. He also returned before starting the multiple projects we had with his workers to review with them what needed to be done. We had a brick chimney leak that 2 other contractors claimed they "fixed". Eric not only guaranteed his work but gave his word that he would repair our chimney and cap to match our brick ,and he would return as needed to be sure we no longer had a leak!  The next job we needed was very important to us! We wanted 8 basement level windows removed and bricked in from the outside to match the current brick on our home. Not an easy job for any mason! Eric matched our brick after carefully photographing color and texture and making trips to brickyard. He did an outstanding job! We have a Williamsburg style all brick home that only a professional of Stinebaugh's Masonry could accomplish. We also had Eric and his staff repair our brick porch from the inside, as there were settlement cracks, shifting and broken bricks. The inside fireplace also needed some masonry work which again was completed and looks amazing. The Stinebaugh staff are polite and extremely knowledgeable. The work was completed on schedule, areas left neat and clean,we were treated with respect. I would describe Stinebaugh Masonry as competent, thorough, meticulous, and professional. It is a delight to work with a company that takes pride in their performance and puts forth the effort to be sure the customer is satisfied with the end result. We would highly recommend Stinebaugh Masonry and are definitely planning on using them again.

  • They were nice and arrived promptly and on time.  We did however think that they were going to clean out the fire place insert, such as vacuuming out ashes and so forth, but they did not.

  • Jack Savin did an excellent job. Fully explained what he was doing. Corrected the angle of the piping from the furnace which had been causing soot to spill on the floor. Perfect cleanup. I was extremely pleased and would highly recommend him.

  • When I called for information the person I spoke to was quite rude and condecending. She could not give me an estimate and there was no one available to, so they needed to call me back. , I waited almost a full day for a call back and when I did speak to someone else, he could not have seemed any less interested in obtaining my business. Wouldn't give me an approximate cost for a inspection and was unable to fit me into his busy schedule. I went with someone else who was kind and able to work with me to get my inspection done.
