  • My dogs are always happy and pulling to go inside when I drop them off here. They can hear the other dogs when we arrive. Not so much at other kennels. They pull to avoid being taken back. Also, unlike other kennels, no up charges for Group play, ball throwing or other extra fun and attention. It’s all included, with “tips appreciated, but not expected.”

  • The facilities and service are good. This place is my backup when the kennel we usually use is full. We prefer that one because it is very close to our house and our dog feels comfortable there as he’s been there many times. I’ve considered/visited a number of other area kennels. I’ve talked with Happy Tails customers at my vets office and all gave positive reviews.

  • Very nice facility nestled in the woods. The staff was attentive and courteous. There was a lot off them too.   The prices are higher end, but so is the facility.  The cost for a bath was in line with mostly every where else.

They em were super accommodating for my last minute booking.

  • We boarded our puppy here for two nights/three days while we were out of town. He had never been boarded before and can be a bit shy so we were pretty nervous. From their website, they seemed just as good as every other boarder out there, but they have a special where your puppy's first boarding with them is free, which was the determining factor for us choosing them. They answered the first time I called, offered upgrades for our pup (which we took for 2 of the days), but weren't pushy about anything. They called me back to confirm they received our dog's medical records, which I appreciated.
Upon entering their facility they had a welcome board with all of the dogs names who were coming for the day, which was a nice touch. Employees were very friendly and prompt and we would have been in and out in less than 5 minutes when we dropped him off, except that we asked for a tour of the facility. The inside kennels are nothing spectacular. Each dog has his/her own run, with both an inside and an outside section. We later learned that our poor pup couldn't understand the doggy door, so they just had to carry him inside/outside! What really stood out to us were the outside grounds; there were multiple and quot;parksand quot; for the dogs to play in - enough for the big dogs to be separated from the small dogs, and even the not-so-friendly dogs could go out and play by themselves separately. We were told that our puppy would only be playing with other puppies, which was a relief.
Upon going to pick him up we asked the woman at the front desk how he did and she looked at the notes in her computer and said that he was a bit anxious, especially the first day. He didn't eat much of his food at all and was pretty scared. Although we obviously weren't happy to hear this, it certainly wasn't the facility's fault - that's just his personality. However, we also got a and quot;Doggy Report Cardand quot; as we checked out - a paper that listed several different categories (eating, playing, etc.) and how he did with each of him. On there, there was nothing about his nervousness, his lack of eating, etc. It just said that he did great and had no problems. We were a bit concerned about this discrepancy, that they were essentially lying to us to make us feel good (and, I assume, come back again).
We've been home for about a week now and he has had some normal post-boarding problems, but nothing specific to this facility (e.g. housetraining problems, barking,). We've heard to expect this after boarding. Overall, we were very happy with our experiences at Dogwood Acres, especially the free first boarding experience. I don't know if we'll be using them again because they're a bit far away and their prices can be expensive, but I would recommend to a friend for their puppy. I would just make sure to have them ask the front desk people what internal notes they had about their dogs stay.

  • I interviewed a few places and this particular company had the right attitude. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the area.
