Concrete Repair reviews in Davidsonville

The end product looks very nice. Our neighbors have complimented this needed change. It really cleaned up the curb appeal (and ease of use) for our home. The initial install of our new concrete front steps was out of scale and too close to a utility, so Maryland Curbscape quickly removed the concrete and corrected it with use of a stair drawing provided by our landscape architect. Now we are very happy with the outcome. Paul and his crew were very professional and responsive. It was good working with them.

George did a great job.  I got many quotes, and he was the only one that took the time to go in my small crawl space and tell me he could do the work I needed.  Not only that, but he found many other things that my inspector and all other companies missed in their estimation.  He was extremely thorough, honest and has a great attention to detail.

    1. Power wash was peformed satisfactorily
    2. Contractor refused to warranty his work of repairing cracks in concrete.  I stupidly went along with this. His men did what looked to be adequate work.  However, all repaired cracks have come apart again, and the new color highlights the shoddy workmanship.
    3. The new color (brown) was sprayed such that it dripped down the sides of the walkway.  The rear walkway was not sprayed at all.  Contractor demanded remainder of his money, which I refused until he corrected the unsightly drips and sprayed the rear walkway.  Contractor was very huffy about this and claimed his men had done "great work" and I owed him all the money. I agreed ONCE he DID the work.  It was finally done, and I paid him (by check in the mail).
Again, VERY poor job on concrete.  Did not even last a year. I need to find a reputable concrete contractor.

Work on removing the old concrete was much more difficult than initially envisioned by the homeowner and the contractor.  The concrete was 8-10" thick rather than the 4-6" thickness estimated and had reinforcing bars as well.  While removing all that concrete took considerably more time and effort than planned, the crew did an outstanding job.
The lower patio was also thicker than estimated and reinforced, but it was removed on the same day.
The planning and replacement work on both slabs was done very professionally and looks great.
The front walk was changed from straight to curved at our request.  While this change added slightly to the cost, the results are outstanding.
Mr. Stephen Benson was with his team throughout the process and did an outstanding job.  He and his team were on time, neat, clean, and very courteous. The team consulted the homeowner when necessary and the work went very smoothly. The site was cleaned up at the end and looks great.
I would not hesitate to have them back for other work, nor would I hesitate recommending them highly.

This has been the worst experience ever.  My opinion is that "The Big Deal"  $1,499 for a general contractor for a week is a BIG RIPOFF!!!!!!  My advice to everyone who is thinking about doing this is STOP AND DON'T DO IT!!!!
I signed up for the big deal on 4/30/12.  They came to my house for a consultation on 6/11/12.  I gave them the above list of items to complete and they stated that it would be $4,299.00 to complete the job because they stated that it would take two people to handle the tasks in one week.  I said I had to think about it because it was a lot of money.  I was told that I could think about it but they didn't know when they would be able to come back out.  (Coupon expires in October).  I agreed to pay $4,299.00 and signed the contract.  They showed up to start work on 7/23/12 around 10:00 a.m.  They stated they were finished on 7/25/12.  They did not work 8 hour days much less a whole week.  The work completed was poor quality and half-done so I told them they would need to come back and complete the work.  I was out of town and could not meet with them, so they asked that I leave a note on the door listing the issues.  I left a note on the door with the following issues. 1) Wood was not replaced.  They painted over the rotten wood; 2) They replaced the gutter with a shorter gutter; 3) Right Rake Board trim missing approximately 1 foot; wood soffit was not replaced; poor quality caulk job around chimney; 4) No wires were tucked; 5) Gate not cut evenly and continues to drag; 6) Did not replace the fascia board only painted over existing wood; 7) Painting and caulking were sloppy.  Concrete pad is rough and rocky; and 8) I found gutter screws in flower beds; rocks/cement on ground and in driveway and cut material on sidewalk in front of deck gate.
They came back out and replaced the gutter with a correct sized gutter and they replaced one of the soffit's and painted.  This is the worst carpentry job I have ever seen.  There is holes, incomplete paint, terrible, terrible, job.  I think I could have done a better job.  Everything else stated in the above paragraph remains the same.  I tried calling and the contact person stated that his wife was in hospital, I said okay please call when he could.  I tried calling again in September and they stated that my contact person was in the hospital.  I begged to have someone other than Craig to come out and take a look at the poor quality work that was done.  I set up appointment and made arrangements with my job so that I could be home on 10/2/12 so that Walter could come to the house.  10/2/12 Walter no showed, so I called - He stated his van broke down and would have to reschedule.  We agreed to 10/7/12.  10/7/12, He no showed.  I called and left as message because there was no answer.  10/8/12 Walter called stated he would be out on Friday 10/12/12. I made arrangements with my job so that I could be home on 10/12/12 and of course he no showed again.  APPLE REMODELING AND HOME IMPROVEMENTS, INC has breached their contract.

We are very satisfied.  Everything is beautiful and the improvement in functionality and natural flow is even better than we dreamed.  We have had lots of family and friends visit in August and September, and everyone is just stunned that we have "a completely new house" after living here 26 years!  We expected to run into lots of unanticipated issues on this project and we did.  Our house was owner-built 44 years ago by someone who did not do things correctly.  I wish we could count the number of times over the years we have had a plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc., in to fix a problem and they would say something like: "I can't believe they did it this way."  in anticipation of this situation, we searched Angie's list for someone who seemed to have broad expertise, good communication skills, flexibility and who was fair in handling contract changes in addition to having high quality standards.  Jim seemed like a good choice based on reviews, and we had confidence in him from our first meeting.  He exceeded our expectations on every one of these selection criteria.  He is a perfectionist!  His team members all reflect Jim's values. Besides being very good, they are pleasant, and take time to answer your questions.  Joe, Wes and Mandy stand out, but all his team members were very good.  I would echo all the specific accolades from the other reports on JLGraves.  Jim handled all the hidden problems (like termite damage and missing beams) in a fair and professional way, giving us options and recommendations.  He loves to "turn a problem into a feature!"  He has excellent color and design sense, and helped us a lot in those areas. You may not believe it, but we quite easily lived in the house during the entire project!!  Jim moved our old refrigerator to the garage, and we had a microwave in the basement and grill outside.  We did laundry at a nearby friend's house.  Jim's guys cleaned up well each day, so it was not a hardship at all to carry on with life.  We're looking forward to phase 2, a smaller project in our basement that we're going to start soon.  In fact, I was going to wait to submit this report until after phase 2, but I've delayed it  based on some decisions I need to make.  So we're submitting this report now. We'll update it with photos as soon as we figure out how.

We began working with Hyde in early June, when we knew we wanted concrete countertops for our planned kitchen renovation that we were starting June 9, 2012.
Greg, the owner, personnally measured our new cabinets and made a template for the formwork construction on 21 June. My wife and I were invited numerous times to check the formwork and see the process in progress.
The first pieces were delivered in early August, and the final piece was installed August 17. The pieces fit perfectly, with very litte site work required.
My wife and I are absolutely thrilled.
Concrete countertops may take a bit longer because of the handmade element and finishing required, but definately worth it. Would use again in a heartbeat.
Price was absolutely fair for the quality and value received.

The company was responsive about setting up a time to come look at the project. Miles was very professional when he came. The problem is that the deal was $199 for $400 worth of masonry. Sounds like it should cover a very modest patio pad. Turns out that it is only enough to cover about a step. Miles told me that concrete runs about $14 per foot. The bill minus the $400 already paid would be $1400 for a 5 X 6 foot pad. My fault for not checking into the cost of concrete. But for $200 I can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get pre-formed concrete squares for about $2.50 per square foot. So I'm going to ask for a refund and go buy the pre-made concrete. Not Miles' fault. He's a good salesperson. The deal just wasn't something that would work for us.

The work was performed in a very professional manner. This is a family run business begun almost 100 years ago by the current owner's grandfather. For the amount of work undertaken and the unknowns involved in investigating and correcting the cause of the failures of our garage slab and patio, I found his quoted price quite fair and reasonable. The contractor honored the quoted price and did not bill for any extras and we were very pleased that he had completed a high quality repair.
