    Next Day Blinds
    My cellular shades from NDB came with a lifetime warranty. It has been several years since they were installed, so they are starting to need to be restrung. I shopped with NDB because of their lifetime warranty. It was supposed to be as simple as making an appt to have a tech come to the house to repair/restring the blinds as needed. The repair and follow up services are simply unimpressive and difficult to get scheduled for. I have had appts several times where the tech arrived many hours late (because he was over booked). Then, they will only do very minor repairs and only on a few blinds (less than 3). The last episode was stressful because the tech was very angry at the late time of the day. Apparently, we were not scheduled on his route. The customer service line is an exercise of waiting for along time to get a person to take the call. After a few incidents like this, we were told to take the blinds to the store and drop them off. Needless to say, this is just another chore to add to an already busy list of errands. It takes about 2 weeks to get a repaired blind back. Then, you have to pick it up. Not exactly the customer service promise we were given at the time of sale. 
    I would not use them again. I would not recommend them. Although the purchase was easy to complete, the follow up is abysmal.

    **This is an updated review**

    ****UPDATE**** After speaking to Kevin and revising my Angie's List review, apparently he decided my update was still not to his liking because he attempted to flag my review as invalid even though his response clearly indicates this was a valid transaction. Please be wary of this man, he may have gotten more bad reviews flagged and taken off to inflate his rating. 

    We were getting our windows sanded and repainted- Kevin originally gave us a quote of around 800 dollars. Then we found out that our place has lead based paint, so he upped the quote to 1,300- still doable for us. He asked for pictures of the windows and asked us to purchase our own supplies so we did. 

    The morning of the job (estimate was given sight unseen-which is apparently the way that all Mr.Handyman franchises work) we were scheduled to meet his technician and him at 7am. His technician was on time, however Kevin was not. When he showed up around 7:20am, he spent a while explaining the estimate, which was still guaranteed under 1,500, and the work started around 7:30am. 

    We laid down priorities and said we could absolutely not go over 1,500- so if we were getting close to the limit that we would end the work right then and there. We had to correct the technician and his assistant regarding the priorities during the job, and watch them smoke cigarettes and discuss other renovation projects while charging us for their time.

    The end of the day rolled around and we got our final bill- 1,418 of labor and 317.21 of supplies even though the job was not remotely close to being done. He went over our firm budget and his technician made a mistake on the invoice, overcharging for his labor by 250 bucks! His technician tried to call Kevin to see if we could work out the difference but Kevin did not answer his phone and was unavailable to return it that day. 

    When I called to speak to him after the job, he was "unavailable" and I was told he would be in in the morning to speak to me. 

    Kevin did call in the morning to respond to the email he had received from me and the franchise's message service. He was defensive on the phone at first, however he realized that he had made a mistake and attempted to work something out with me. To his credit, he was not aware that the technicians were smoking on the job and said that was completely against policy- I hope they've been spoken to. We worked out that Kevin would have his technician's assistant come back out to the job sight and help finish the work- he also cut the bill back to our budget of 1,500. 

    His assistant did come back to the work site and work for an extra four hours, and even added in some extra glazing that was not in the original work order. What I find rather funny was when I got to the house to observe the work, it turns out his assistant skipped over a window and forgot to paint it! I asked Kevin how he wanted to proceed with that and he asked if it was "fair" to consider the extra glaze work a payment for the missed window. I decided to let it slide since my boyfriend was able to take care of it the next day. 

    All in all, I honestly am not going to use Mr.Handyman again. Having a policy where there are no firm estimates seems a little odd to me, and not coming to see the work sight before giving an estimate had my Realtor questioning their ability to give a reasonably close ballpark estimate. As you will note, with the extra work necessary to complete the job our bill would have been close to 2,000- 700 dollars over the estimate given at the beginning of the day. 

    Kevin did make things relatively right with the extra work that he gave us free of charge and cut the bottom line back to our budget, but Mr.Handyman's motto is "On Time, Done Right" and I'm sorry to say that this was really lacking in our experience. With my next contractor experience, I'd like my estimate to match my bill at the end of the day :).

    Next Day Blinds
    I spent $3000 on my last purchase.  The last project was fine.  They have put in savannah shutters in my kitchen and dining room, cornices in my living room and blinds in the living room, curtains in my dens.  I keep going back to them because they are guaranteed for life and when I have trouble, they come out and fix it.  They have replaced my cornices 3 times because they were not right.  Their prices are pretty expensive.

    Next Day Blinds
    Installation was terrible!!! The plantation shutters don't open outward as they are designed to. The verticals were hung backwards and when we called to get someone out to reverse them it took weeks. The installer who performed the replacement wasn't any better as they are now hung higher on one side and look so unprofessional and CHEAP.

    After meeting with Tami for a couple of hours in the store, she and her assistant came to our home to measure windows, and to go over examples of what we could do. They came in the evening to suit our schedules. Tami was EXTREMELY helpful. Very knowlegeable and full of good ideas. In the end, we chose not use Ethan Allen as they were not able to quote a price within our budget. Had I been able to afford them, I would have most certainly used them.

    It took a while for the work to get scheduled, but they came out when scheduled and completed the work in one day. Overall we are very pleased with the work, although there is one window that still doesn't open and close properly.
