Irrigation System reviews in Columbia

The quality of the hardware that was installed is excellent. The water draining problem appears to be fixed (although their work has caused water damage in a corner of our basement where we have never before had a water problem in our 40+ years of living here). The patio blocks and the layout of the blocks look appealing. The backyard stoop also looks excellent. Our biggest complaint with this company is about how they handled communications about the changes that we desired and about our concerns. We informed them, in writing, within three weeks of their beginning the job, about our dissatisfaction with some of their design and plant ideas. The company representatives responded with defensiveness. In the negotiations that transpired, we reminded them that they had told us verbally, on day one, that they would work with us regarding the patio design, the location of flower beds and the plant selections. However, in the end, they were rigid in defending their written contract and justifying why we had to pay for plants and bed locations that we did not want. We paid what they demanded despite not being satisfied with the adjustment they made to the original contract when they planted considerably fewer plants than they first proposed, because we did not want those plants. This company does good work. However, we would not recommend using this company because they are so difficult to work with regarding changes and concerns that occur as the job proceeds. We would suggest that if one wants to use this company, that the consumer work to write out, very explicitly, in the contract, exactly how changes and alterations to the contract will be handled, including how adjustments in the fair cost would be made to accommodate changes and alterations requested by the consumer. All in all, the process was a very unpleasant transaction for us, although the quality of their work is good.

We carefully supervised the work and everything was done well. We did have to provide some reminders on a couple of things that were in the contract that were not being performed when the work was being completed, but after the onsite supervisor called the company and verified our reminders, the work was done as per the contract. We also requested additional work to be performed outside the written contract, which included an extension to the rear stone patio by having them add more pavers. The company reduced their initial work estimate to meet our price after negotiations. We are overall content with the work performed and is of high quality. In addition, the company took great care to ensure that we were happy with the finished work, which also included ensuring that the landscaping was left with good appearance. At the end of the project we had two items we wanted the company to address; 1. A rear pipe was exposed and extended too far into the grass (tripping hazard and posed difficulty when mowing lawn), the company returned to cut the pipe so that it was closer to the mulched area and not as exposed. 2. A front corner 5" is exposed and drains to the driveway. The white pipe detracts from the home appearance and we are worried that it may be an issue with the home owners association. Unfortunately, the pipe could not be moved to be buried into the ground to drain further down the driveway. The company did address this issue via correspondence to let us know that it is impossible to relocate it. We recommend this company and will not hesitate to use them again for other work in the future.

    MONTGOMERY IRRIGATION
In late 2010, when I was going through the blowout/winterization process, zone 3 of my irrigation system would not open. I called Montgomery Irrigation to find the valve (the original installation, by a different company, was sloppy and did not mark valve locations) and repair it. They came out as promised and (using some kind of magic that I don't understand) found the valve. Then they had to ascertain whether it was the valve that was bad or if the electrical connection had failed. They had absolutely no idea how to trouble-shoot the electrical connection. I had to do myself, while they watched and occasionally expressed doubt about the process. When we finally determined that it was a bad valve, they replaced it. While they were fairly careful about avoiding damage to the lawn during the valve location and replacement, they made kind of a mess in their initial futile attempts to locate the wiring (which, actually, turned out to be irrelevant).
The next season went smoothly, though zone 3 is one that is lightly used. When I started using the system in April 2012, I began noticing a lot of puddling around where the valve had been replaced. After a while, I could see water bubbling up near the repair. I called Montgomery Irrigation back out and they again dug up the valve area and found that, during the prior repair, the outlet pipe from the valve had been cracked. So they fixed the damage they caused. But then they tried to charge me for the second repair! After much more time and many more phone calls than should have been necessary, they canceled the invoice.
Last season, 2013, I noticed that the valve for zone 3 was intermittently sticking open. I came out one morning to find that it had been running for 5 hours! I began using zone 3 very sparingly and only when I could keep an eye on it. This season, 2014, I set up zone 3 to come on at 7:30 a.m. so that, if it stuck, I would see it right away. So this morning, it stuck open again. I am able to get it to close by cycling power to that zone. (By the way, I have not had any problem with the valves for any other zone -- just the one that they replaced.) I don't want to call Montgomery Irrigation because I don't want to go through that whole process again. I am very frustrated with this company.

    ADVANTAGE LAWNS LLC
I didn't dislike anything. They came out. They were very clear and they seeded my lawn. They did what they are suppose to do. I had measured my lawn and I knew that my lawn is larger but they charged over their limit. The aeration was good until the climate changed into cold weather and I don't know yet if it's still good. I was pleased with them. They were responsive because they coordinated with me in what to do, tried to do his work, returned phone calls and at the same time they catch-up but ones we called up, they were around here and a mater of fact, they did show up earlier than what I thought they were coming. They were very professional. If I need lawn service again, I would call them.

    Green World Irrigation And Landscaping
Initially, we met at my house for a look at the yard and a quote. We agreed on the job and price. Pete showed up the next day and began work on time. Work was completed within a few days, and everyone was pleased at the end.

    MVP Irrigation
Had a bad water leak in the back yard.  It was a constant stream/puddle down a slope.  MVP irrigation came out and inspected it, and suspected it was due to a problem with the sprinkler system.  However, it turned out the be a gutter problem - the ADS piping was broken.  They brought back piping and repaired the problem.  They actually charged us $180 total -- much less than their original estimate because it was a simpler problem.

My only issue was we asked them to explain how to program the sprinkler system to my wife -- but then they billed us an additional $80 for explaining it.  If they were going to charge us that much, I wish they would have told us - I could have google'd it instead.  Not to mention my wife doesn't remember what they told her!  I'm going to call and discuss with them, I suspect I may be able to negotiate that charge.

Overall, very happy with service.  Quickly taken care of, accurately diagnosed problem.  Excellent service and would recommend them.

    MARYLAND LAWN SPRINKLER
We just bought a new house on July 14th.  I immediately noticed there was a stream of water in the back yard going down a hill, and suspected there was a leak in the sprinkler system.   The previous owner gave me the number for Maryland Lawn Sprinkler, and told me they had a service contract with them.

I called them around July 18th, left a message explaining the above -- and no one ever called back.  I called them again one week later, no answer.  I called them again another week later, and left 2 messages with an "answering service".  I labeled each one as an "emergency", and the person on the phone each time assured me that I would receive a prompt call back.  In total, I called them at least 6-8 times over the course of a 6 week span.  Because there was a service contract and I figured they installed & knew the sprinkler system, I kept trying to get a hold of them.  Meanwhile, there was a constant puddle in my back yard.

I finally went with a different company who diagnosed and fixed the problem immediately within 2-3 days.  Maryland Lawn Sprinkler finally called back (!) -- a full SIX WEEKS after my first call.  They told me that they "did not know" I had a contract with them, because I was a new owner.  This was despite the fact that every message I left stated I was a new owner, etc.  From my perspective - even if they "didn't know I had a contract" - why wouldn't they return 6 emergent phone calls??  After I told them I went with a different company, they actually asked me if I would want to renew the service contract!  I asked him if he was serious, and refused.

I would definitely not recommend this company.  I do not know if they do good work or not, however the unprofessional manner they handled 6-8 "emergency" calls without responding for 6 weeks -- suggests very poor service.

ATLANTIC LIGHTING & IRRIGATION CO INC
We've had them forever and we are very happy with them. They came out in April or May. They did an excellent job. The sprinkler system works very well. We had one issue so they came back and took care of it. We've been using their service for less than seven years.

They did a wonderful job they installed everything perfectly. I wanted to get a sprinkler system to make sure I didn't have to water my lawn manually anymore. The new sprinkler system is working great and I'm very pleased with these guys' work. I would definitely recommend these guys to anybody. I would rather not disclose the price.
