    I set up an appointment a week ago to get an estimate today regarding having my stairs replaced. The guy calls AN HOUR before my appointment time (which was even a window of time) and he says that he's in the area 20 minutes away and just wants to stop by. I tell him that I would like to keep our scheduled appointment since other people were in my home also giving estimates. I could tell he didn't like my answer and that he was copping an attitude. As I expected, he was a no show. Very childish and unprofessional. Good luck to anyone looking to hire this group when they could not do something as basic as uphold a simple commitment. Thank God I didn't hire this group. I can only imagine what other commitments they will break.

    Like an idiot, I paid for their 16 hour "special" that's only $1,900. They sent a new guy out - Patrick - who had just left a family owned business and spent a lot of time talking about how he's not appreciated by his current company (instead of working). It was very hard to get him to stop talking and start working. It took him 8 hours just to finish a powder room. He put it together very badly the first time - the finishing was obviously very poorly installed with spaces around the toilet and the walls. He had to take THREE trips to Home Depot to find the write hose to attach the pedestal sink. It would take all the time in the world to list the problems we had with Patrick. He came the second day 2.5 hours late. He was only supposed to work for four hours that day! That time was never made up. He spent most of the first day on the phone! I could never find him inside the house! He would take 2 hour coffee/Home Depot breaks. He would arrive late, pack p early, and told us he needed to avoid traffic! We paid for 16 hours. He worked incredibly slowly. He spoke a lot about his resentment for the company he worked with but begged for a positive review b/c he was new. I did call his boss Rose and discuss ALL of the problems we were having with Patrick and she said Brian would talk to him. The next day he showed up and was surly. I quickly realized we'd only be able to get the house ready before listing if I humored him. I wrote "great job" at the end b/c I was so relieved it was over and also b/c I felt a lot of pressure from him to do so. (When we did pay him in cash that weekend he worked like a fiend - which makes it so obvious that he just didn't give a **** while he was working on company time). Obviously, the company never made this right. Weeks later I realized we'd been conned and it was ridiculous not to dispute half of the charge. I filed a dispute with AmEx. I got an incredibly aggressive phone call from Brian who said, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" Um, yes you can dispute transactions if the merchants are terrible. I've never had to do it before but you better believe I did this time. What happened? Brian sneered that the problems had already "been resolved" after the multiple phone calls with Rose. Oh? Resolved? We didn't get any type of a refund, Patrick didn't work extra hours - nothing. Literally nothing was done - we had to pay the entire price. Next, to my amazement, Brian said they "ALWAYS win AmEx disputes" b/c customers have to sign that they approve when they pay at the end of the day. I couldn't believe he was openly admitting that merchant disputes are a regular problem for this company - that says quite a bit for how they operate! I tried to calm Brian down by explaining we were only disputing half of the charges (even though after all of this we will be asking the national company for a full refund). Brian abruptly said he'd speak with Rose and hung up. AmEx credited us but then sent us 2 emails that we couldn't open and neither could the AmEx agents overseeing the dispute. As a result, since we couldn't actively communicate during the dispute, it was resolved in the merchant's favor. You better believe we opened up another dispute right away and will be calling AmEx regularly to make sure they don't mess up again! I have an actual voicemail from Rose calling me back to discuss all of the concerns we were having with Patrick! SO - BE CAREFUL - go with a handyman you know in your neighborhood. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. They either don't pay the contractors well enough (Patrick kept complaining he was treated like he didn't know how to do anything even though he could build houses, blah blah - wish he'd shown us some of that while he was on the company's dime!). I can see the most recent review has the exact same problems we did - the guy came hours left, worked as slow as humanly possible, etc. Home renovations are EXTREMELY expensive - this company should be ashamed of how they take advantage of consumers. Absolutely disgusting. Heads up - Patrick asks to be paid in cash so he doesn't need to pay the IRS. He will work hard but as soon as you leave town he'll try to screw you over. If we had had more time we would have switched to another company immediately before listing the house.

    From the first meeting with Moses I knew we were in good hands. Everyone at Merrell is stellar, from Moses on down the line. The fact that this team has worked together for so long speaks volumes, and the quality of their workmanship can't be topped. They always had a creative solution to the inevitable "surprises" that come up, and they were infinitely patient with my questions and suggestions. They were a pleasure to have in our home and we can't recommend them highly enough.

    Really well. The work began on time and the team stuck to the schedule. They even worked on a Sunday! There were a few tweaks to the floor which were handled beautifully. The result is stunning hardwood floors in 6 rooms. The sub floor is level and solid.

    TERMITE DAMAGE REPAIR CO
    The work was done by the contractor with the help of one assistant. The contractor was obviously very experienced and knowledgeable about termites and termite damage, He explained the damage he detected and how he would proceed with repairs. More damage was detected as the repairs progressed which added to the original estimate, but it seemed reasonable that this damage couldn't have been noticed until some of the initial work had been done. The contractor and his assistant were friendly and took care to clean up the work area. We chose to repaint the wall ourselves.

    This past summer (2017) I was fortunate to have used the services of NLT Construction, specifically, the owner, Dave Cedrone who functioned as the head contractor overseeing the work of 3 sub-contractors (electrical, flooring, and painters). I contracted with NLT Construction for carpentry and coordination of the work of the sub-contractors. Dave had me contract individually with the subcontractors he recommended, which worked out well. I used the painter and flooring subcontractors Dave recommended but foolishly decided to go with a different electrician (who did not play well with others). Dave coordinated and checked the quality of everyone���s work. The entire job was finished within the expected timeframe and within the estimated cost. Here are some very specific reasons I recommend Dave without reservation: ��� Responsiveness and excellent communication skills: (How many times have you heard those words used to describe a contractor?) Dave was ALWAYS reachable, frequently getting back to me within minutes of my placing a call or sending an e-mail. As I was disassembling my house, I experienced a ���shelf emergency��� involving shelves installed years ago by another contractor. I realized that most of the existing shelves throughout the basement and garage (onto which I planned to load a house-full of boxes) had been installed shoddily and were in danger of collapsing. I called Dave (before his work was even scheduled to begin) in a panic and he had his men come that same day (and the next) to rebuild and/or reinforce the shelves. ��� Problem-solving and cost saving: One of Dave���s greatest strengths is the fact that he always came up with solutions for the inevitable and unpredictable problems that arose along the way. For example, he had warned me that a picture window with a rotting frame may need to be replaced, but that he wouldn���t be able to tell until his men worked on it. It did need replacing, but he called one of his window contacts, got me an excellent price, which (including his crew���s labor) was $6,000 less than my husband and I had been quoted years previously when we first noticed the rot beginning to form. Along similar lines, I had been told by numerous contractors I interviewed that a (different) living room window would need to be replaced. When I asked Dave how much he would charge to replace it, he said he didn���t the entire window needed replacing ��� only a section of the wooden casement, which he thought Pella still made. He called his Pella contact and had him send me a replacement part that cost round $60 ��� instead of several thousands for window replacement. He was the only contractor who did this. ��� Insistence on quality work: Dave stopped by frequently to check on the work of the subcontractors. During his visits (inspections) I noticed that he would routinely ask them why they chose to do the work in a specific way. Afterwards the supervisor of the painting crew commented that Dave is always always open to learning new ways of doing things. He knows what quality work looks like and will ask them to redo something that is not done to his standards. Because they know this, they take special care to do things right the first time when working on his Jobs. [Worked for me!] In addition to doing excellent work and expecting (and getting) the same from his subcontractors, Dave was also very fair with his pricing and very clear in setting up and implementing the specs of his contracts (in order to minimize misunderstandings down the line.) I truly appreciated the care Dave took with my house. Once I fully recover from the trauma of having had to disassemble and then reassemble my entire house, I hope to renovate my kitchen and bathrooms. I wouldn���t even think of calling anyone but Dave to do the work. You will not regret your decision if you hire him.

    Dave informed me about my house and gave me options on what to do. He and his crew seem to have a passion for doing things right and that is what convinced me that the few $$ I might have saved going with replacing part of the siding with cement board was not worth it in the end. We discovered that part of chimney needed plywood replacement which they did as well. Love the look of my freshly repaired and painted Woodman-built contemporary in Columbia. Dave did send crew on wrong day once (a day early), but worked with me on little things that came up. His crew was amazingly professional and clean. They even working on Sunday (after clearing that was OK with me).

    Our Handyman was on time, efficient, courteous, friendly and...overall fantastic. I rarely write reviews - and to be honest, we have had several contractors in recently for other work and have been very disappointed - but this was a great experience.
