Basement & Foundation reviews in Cheverly

We could not be happier with the job that A A Action Waterproofing did for us in waterproofing our basement. For the past 7 or so years, we would get water seeping in at various places in the basement and also puddle up in the middle of the floor from below ground. Not enough to flood, but enough to be a nuisance every time there would be a soaking rain. After getting estimates from three companies, we decided to go with A A Action mainly because they explained things very clearly regarding how the job would be performed and what to expect during installation, they pointed out issues the other companies didn't and they had excellent reviews on Angie's List, the Better Business Bureau and some other sites I checked. They also had an extremely competitive price. Over a two day time period, they completely dug up/jackhammered the entire interior perimeter of our basement, as well as the bottom of the stairs outside the basement door, installed 94 feet of a French drain system and connected it to 1 sump pump, which drains out to the backyard. They also parged and painted our inner stairwell and connected the new stairwell drain they installed to the main system. I waited to write this review until we had a chance to see how the system has worked. In late May and early June 2018, a tropical moisture pattern settled in over the area and during the course of several weeks, we received an almost Biblical amount of rain. Our basement stayed dry as a bone, however. We couldn't believe it! Every evening we'd go down to the basement to check it out and it was completely dry. If the system can handle that amount of sustained, torrential rain, it can handle anything. I can't express what a relief it is not to have to worry about having water in the basement anymore. I highly recommend A A Action Waterproofing to anyone who is considering having this or similar work done at their house. It was absolutely money well spent!

H & C Construction have done several projects for me over the years. Ranging from painting to installing a shower. Most recently, the company repaired my front steps. Luis, the owner and his team are always very professional and the work is top notch. Response times are quick and prices are affordable. I highly recommend this company.

The service was great!!!! The advice was great!!!! The products are great!!!! My crawlspace looks and feels great!!!! And I saved a BUNCH of money!! The job was physically demanding, mostly because of the small space. Good crew. Timely project completion and excellent cleanup. Quality Product / Quality Service - Very clean, they were professional. Efficient installation. The workers were courteous and took time to explain reason for length of time to do work, etc... Hard workers - they deserve a raise! Have told a lot of peoples and friends about your company.

Jay Bengston, the owner of the company, came himself to inspect our corner - no salesman or non-professional. He looked at the corner, inspected the walls of the unfinished part of the basement thoroughly, and looked around the house to find a possible problem. He suspected the crack in the concrete as well and ran water down that crack for 15 min. with a hose he brought himself. The water immediately showed in the corner of our basement. He advised us, even though he wouldn't earn anything from us, that we should simply fix the concrete and see whether that would do the problem. Also he made us aware of the frame of our entry door, which is damaged by water as well. He also advised us on our rain gutters. He left without charging us one dollar. It became very clear to us that the first company we consulted sent a non-professional salesman to sell us their expensive product, which might not have even solved the root of the problem. I can only recommend Jay Bengston and his company! He seems to be an honest and very experienced professional who would not do a job that wasn't necessary! If we ever had waterproofing issues again, we would definitely go with his company!

Scott came on time and was very professional. He examined every section of my unfinished basement, took measurements of the water retention levels in the walls, and explained JES' process thoroughly. There was no "hard sell" or pressure.

The work was done exceptionally fast, professional, and within budget. I have used many contractors in the DC Metro - none as good and as fast as Fredy. The house was in terrible condition and now looks likes a brand new model home inside and out (that is very significant as it was built in the 1930's).
    1. New Roof, siding, and insulation.
    2. New windows to include custom installation.
    3. A new attached patio, rear patio, and an entire backyard update to include a fence, patio, significant work with the front and backyards
    4. Update bathrooms, dining room, living rooms, electric, lighting, ceilings, and  plumbing.

I am ECSTATIC about the outcome of my basement renovation! Working with Brian and Derek along with two members of their team - Julio and Jason- was an easygoing and pleasant experience. I hired Matthews Construction & Design only after interviewing and visiting the work of three other companies. I definitely made the right decision. What I appreciated most about working with Brian and Derek of Matthews Construction & Design is that they gave me peace of mind and excellent service. I did not have to stress as unforeseen circumstances arose. For example, when water was entering my basement, Matthews Construction & Design explained the issue to me clearly and presented me with next step options while keeping my budget and renovation goals in mind. Brian constantly reminded me that he stands behind the quality of work and service he provides by backing it with a warranty. I was also glad I could trust a company to handle the daily details of my renovation as if it were their own basement renovation I received daily progress reports from Derek - he was always accessible (via phone, email, text and through face-to-face meetings) and he responded to all of my questions and suggestions with the utmost professionalism and respect. I truly valued Derek's guidance during the entire renovation process (before, during and after). Brian, the Owner, checked-in with me regularly via phone, email and in-person to make sure I was satisfied with the progress of my renovation. Neither Brian or Derek were satisfied until I was satisfied. I have dreaded renovating my basement due to a terrible past experience with a previous Contractor. However, Brian and Derek have restored my faith in Contractors and also in the craftsmanship of their industry. I highly recommend Matthews Construction & Design for your next home construction and design project! I had a great experience with a great outcome.

My advice: ask the sales team every detailed question and get every detail in writing. Do not assume the sales team knows how the work will actually happen. There's a communication disconnect between the sales team and the team doing the work. The sales guy told me that they would remove the paneling, drywall, and framing from my basement, jackhammer the footing, install a waterproof barrier, install the drainage system, move and replace the sump pump, and haul away all the debris. When the work team arrived, they explained that they would?only remove the parts of the walls that they absolutely had to and that they didn't know why the sales team tells people that they'll remove everything and that that over-promise happens?all the time. When the work team was done, I got a mini walkthrough that didn't mention the new sump pump discharge, didn't mention the truck load of demolition debris left in the garage and, being frustrated with the half-walls hanging from the ceiling, I didn't think to check those until the guys were gone. They didn't bring a truck/trailer big enough to haul away all of?their own debris and apparently didn't care about the aesthetics of the sump pump discharge leaving the house, hovering oddly above the flower bed. It took two emails before I got a reply from them about the disconnect between promises made and?level and quality of?work performed. After the first rain, it took two emails to get a reply about the leaking sump pump discharge where I was encouraged to fix it myself but that they'd come out if I couldn't. I tried to fix it myself, it didn't work, and it's now been two more emails with zero reply. I delayed writing a less-than-great review but have had it and thought others should know. Since they came, I've removed the hanging half?walls, rented a truck, hauled all of the debris to the landfill, and now I'm going to replace the sump pump discharge myself, too. Maybe I can finally get the build-out started. My experience with them has reinforced that, caring about the details, I should just do the work myself. Trying to find something good to say about the work: the drainage system seems to be installed well. The Dura-Skrim isn't 'to grade' like they promised but it's within a foot?and, even with the gaping hole in one corner, seems to be working well.

Wonderful Experience. Best Basement water proofing company.
I have waited for 2 years before I completed my basement  water proofing project.
I have taken estimate from 5 different companies.  These companies are: All Aspects Waterproofing, Value Dry Waterproofing , A A Action Waterproofing Inc  and several others.
What I found that most renowned basement water proofing company cons are:
    1) Agent comes to your house and tries to sell the package by any means not caring at all about your situation or need.2) Since agent makes commission of each assignment they sell, they will try to tell you anything nonsense.3) Very vague on their work description. No Detail about the kind of work /diagram / description of small details of work. They will say or will give impression of doing everything which they will not provide you in writing.4) Sell agents are marketing guys who tries to play with your mind and sell the package.5) Very Important one point for Basement water proofing: --- All most all Basement water proofing company will pretty much do the same kind of interior drain - sump pump system. Difference is made by who is going to handle the outside water better/ efficiently and with a compacted approach all these other company will not even discuss about  out side water/ gutter down spout water handling at all.6) Many a time, these companies sub contract the work to other small companies which you will not even realize.
Lets come to the Pros of this Company Basement Masters Waterproofing  which I have used:
    1) FYI: First their price is not the cheapest. At the same time, their quote was not the highest also among the other quotes I have received.  I would put them in the middle price range.2) Lets come to the person who came to my house. He is the owner of the company: Mr. Randoll.  3) He doesnt have any marketing nonsense. Best part is: he tries to understand your basement water problem and notes the absolute need. Then He will email you the estimate which will have all the details with map and diagram. He will work with you if you need something different and price.4) Now it comes to the crew. Team which came to my house was a 4 member team (Direct employee not sub-contractor). Head was Mr. Walter.  If he is about to do your job then you dont need to worry about anything.  Mr. Randolls (Owner) quote and Mr. Walter work are so much in sync you wont believe that.  Mr. walter also takes the job as his own house they do many different things extra which was not in the quote to make it nice.  5) Main Work which makes them different is the outside peripheral water management. Once the sump pump push the water outside what and how the water will be drained. Same with the Gutter down spout water draining. They will take care all of these issues.6) They have proper honest business  approach rather than ripping off people.7) I highly recommend them . You will see the difference.

We had been had water leaking from the bottom of the fireplace in the basement. I interviewed a few contractors from different companies and decided to use the services of All Aspect. Kenny shown up on time, inspected the cause of the leaking and described the problem to me clearly and professionally. So we decided to let the company to do the job. The crew shown up on time early of the day. They did very good and clean job. They used plastic curtain to prevent the dust to other areas of the house which is very nice. They finished the job in the afternoon on time. The basement has never been leaked again. Thanks Kenny and the company for your excellent job. Sharon
