DTHOMPSTON MANAGEMENT, LLCI was on a tight budget and after contacting quite a few places, Thompston management had one of the more competitive prices. But it was a struggle to even get that started. I initially got a wrong estimate, had to get a 2nd estimate done. I had to contact them multiple times to get a separate estimate for the storm doors. Took quite a few messages and several WEEKS to finally get through that.
I had explained that I was in an unusual situation, that was quite stressful. I had just moved, had significant plumbing issues, which is why I needed the new floors. Black water on the carpet, so that had to be ripped out and replaced.
About 3 weeks go by, while I was getting the new flooring delivered etc. And I get an email asking if I signed the contract, which I had not received. So I stated I never got any contract, please resend... and if possible just shoot me an email when it is sent so I can be sure that I don't miss it. I did give a payment of 1/3 of the total cost of the estimate I received.
Finally the install date comes, approximately 4 weeks after my initial contact. The worker shows up by himself, it was supposed to be a 2 person job. And he showed up late, and he seemed flustered. He started doing basic prep work by removing baseboards, (I removed the carpeting myself, to speed things up and save money), started to lay down vapor barrier, worked for all of an hour or 2 and he comes upstairs to tell me that he has to leave. I of course wonder why, he says that Thompston management just fired him, and that he is sick of how they treat him and he has to leave right now to meet with a lawyer about it.
Imagine my frustration after months of hardship (prior to my contact with Thompston management), then 4 long weeks trying to get working with them, and now this! I just needed this space finished. I call to find out what on earth is going on, I am being told that he was never to be there at all, that they had fired him the day before. That they didn't know he was showing up at all. Which doesn't even make sense, because if he truly was fired the day before and was no longer coming then why did NO one contact me to tell me that things are not going to be installed on the agreed DATE. They didn't send anyone else, or reschedule me, so I guess they were going to just leave me high and dry?
I was then told that someone else can come out, and they will have to come see the space and understand the job and basically everything is now delayed by another week or two. Since this other person is already on another job they can't juts switch to my job right away.
At which point I asked to just get my money back, so I can find someone else. I was then given a hard time and an attitude about how contractually they don't have too, that they have spent time on my project (helping moving the flooring into the house which took 30 minutes and the actual time to work the estimate I guess)..... which technically there is NO contract because despite multiple times me saying I didn't get it and to let me know when it is sent she never did. Eventually she was nice enough to give me like 90% of my money back. Which leaves a bad taste in my mouth but I wanted to be done with it.
Also, as I stated earlier I had an unusual situation. The other thing that really bothered me is I was upfront and honest about my situation from day 1. I had to ask for special arrangements, like the job had to be done in multiple days, instead of just one day so that I could re-arrange spaces for them to work. This was all known and agreed too, yet I got an email complaining to me about my situation and lecturing me about how I had to move things before work could be done. Which I had already made clear I NEEDED to do and I needed them to give me the time to do it, hence I needed the work done in multiple days. It was downright insulting, and rude.. and very insensitive, when this was something that I couldn't help... something that had been sprung upon me and I was dealing with it the best that I could. (and again they knew all the details of how this situation happened, why I was in the situation.... everything so that they would be understanding.... or I had hoped they would be)
My other HUGE complaint and the reason I decided to leave this review is that the worker that came and worked in my house for 1-2 hours..... that was fired... turns out he had a serious criminal record. An entire page of charges of criminal history ranging from assault, to breaking and entering and now this guy knows my house inside and out by evaluating, and working in it. I really don't want anyone else to take a chance with these guys because the workers they use are dangerous. At least that was my experience. This was so unsettling to me, to know a criminal with that history was IN my house on multiple occasions (carrying flooring on one day then the day of install).

AChesapeake Thermal Enterprises IncChesapeake Thermal did a very good job on two separate contracts that I signed with them about six months apart. The first contract was to replace exterior doors and the second was to replace some large picture windows. For each job, I got bids from three contractors before picking Chesapeake Thermal to do the work. One bid on each job was from a local, unlicensed contractor that I had some limited previous experience with and the other two bids on each job were "A" of "B" rated contractors on Angie's List.
For doors, Chesapeake Thermal specializes in ProVia, which are pretty high end and I expected their bid on the doors to be the highest but I was surprised when their prices came in a little under the highest bidder (an Angie's List "A" contractor). For windows, Chesapeake Thermal uses more than one manufacturer and I picked the manufacture that I thought was the best fit. Again, their bid was a bit less than the highest bid I received. On both jobs, the unlicensed contractor bids were about 60% less than the others, which provides some indication of how much prices can range when you're getting bids from contractors. But those bids was too-scary low for me to have confidence in. One thing to keep in mind is that not all doors and windows are the same and you really have to do your research on the manufacturer to assess whether you're getting good value for the dollar.
Chesapeake Thermal is a family-run business and Tom Dawson came over a few days after I called them for each bid and he took measurements. I liked that he was able to give me a verbal bid for the doors right there on the spot for various options. Specializing in ProVia, Tom was pretty familiar with the product and the manufacturer catalog is pretty comprehensive. For the windows, Tom and I went back and forth on different manufacturers over a period of a few weeks and he sent me bids for several options. but he was very responsive with each of my requests. During the whole process, Tom's demeanor was low-key and there was no sales pressure.
Regarding installation, on both jobs, when Chesapeake Thermal received the doors/windows from the manufacturer, they called me to schedule installation. There was a bit of a glitch with the scheduling of the window installation because of manufacturer delivery and Chesapeake Thermal had to reschedule the window installation with me at the last minute. But in the case of both the door and window installations, Chesapeake Thermal did a good job of communicating with me.
Overall the installations went very smoothly. The crew showed up when promised each day and worked continuously through the day. The only complaints I might make, which are relatively minor, is that when the window installation was finished, I wasn't completely happy with some of the finish/trim details but I let it slide. Also, when the crew came to the house with the windows there were no screens and there was a bit of a scramble to get the screens from the manufacturer after the fact. I would have thought that the installation crew would have checked that before coming out to install. But they were unaware until I pointed it out.
Overall, I would use Chesapeake Thermal again. They're not the cheapest contractor but also not the most expensive. But they seem to run a fairly professional and fair operation.

AKPM Home Improvement, L.L.C.Exceptional!!!
We cannot say enough good things about our experience with KPM Home Improvement, L.L.C.. When my father passed away my sisters and I were faced with a neglected home in need of many repairs before it was in any condition to sell. We had several "quick buy" companies trying to get us to sell the house at give away prices. After several interviews with contractors we contracted with KPM Home Improvement, L.L.C. to do the work. Since Jim Kirsch and his team completed the work we have increased the value of the house by over $125,000.00.
Jim and his team, Jason and Andrew, were very professional and met our every expectation. Jim was available anytime to answer my questions and to advise me on the many decisions I had to make. He is well versed in all areas of home remodeling and his years of experience allowed him to advise me on many different areas of the project. He made the whole remodel a pleasant experience. We had no hidden expenses. What we contracted for is what we were charged. We even asked for additional things to be done and they willingly added them and still completed the job within the time frame he gave us.
I have recommended KPM Home Improvement, L.L.C.to my family and friends and would gladly have them work on any future projects.
Honesty and integrity are rarely found in this business. I found it in Jim , Jason and Andrew on our project.

AChesapeake Thermal Enterprises IncFrom meeting with Tom during the sales process through final installation, Chesapeake Thermal was very professional and provided good communication. I ordered new patio doors with blinds in the low E glass and a sliding screen. The patio doors are the ones that look like french doors not the sliding kind. Tom measured and took time answering my questions about features and options. The doors had to be ordered and Tom said it would be approx. 6 weeks. I marked my calendar and exactly when he said they would be in I received a call from the office saying they were in. Due to the excess rainfall we have had this Spring, she indicated it would be about a week before they could install them. She scheduled it for the following Friday at 10. The two installers arrived on time and got right to work. They even put down mats to protect the carpet. It took about 5 hours to get the old doors and jamb pulled and to install the new doors, jamb, and trim. They were friendly, professional, and efficient. When they left I couldn't even tell they had been here except for the new doors. The filled the little nail holes and even had paint to cover the holes they filled. Great job! Thanks Chesapeake Thermal!
