Great - I've been using the service for a few years - very happy with them.  When something broke on my mower, they were responsive and got the parts they thought they would need before coming out.

I had used them in the past and they were pretty slow and expensive, but they did the job right. Today I could not even get them on the phone. After being put on hold for 20 minutes, I hung up and called back. I was asked if I would hold and was instantly put on hold again, and again, and again. In frustration, I called their Bethesda store, hoping to talk with someone live. Same experience. I guess they don't need repeat business so I've taken my mower elsewhere.

On July 3rd, they picked up our mower (which was good) and I paid a $35 deposit and had to ask for a receipt (which was bad). We were going out of town for a week and asked to have it back in 2 weeks. They said fine, they were moving from Silver Spring to Kensington, and what they didn't tell us was that our mower was very far down in the queue of machines to get repaired! Upon our return July 13th, we called for a status update, having been led to believe it would be ready by the end of that week. No such luck! The next 3 weeks it was phone-tag/runaround with the company either not returning calls, or saying it'll be ready at the end of the week (it never was) or early next week (again, it never was) and so on. This irritating and unprofessional behavior continued (for example, they never told us what the problem was, then they made major changes and charged us without giving us an estimate first and asking permission) until August 3rd, when we received a call that the mower was repaired. Of course, that was the week we were at the beach, so we waited until August 10th when we got back to get it and paid them that day. While it did work well and looked good, the stress and distress from having the grass growing and no means to mow it, not getting calls returned, etc. was very very annoying. We did hire John for the week we were gone in July to mow for $30 the front yard, which he did semi-competently. However, the next few weeks we kept believing it was almost ready, so we never hired anyone else to mow and finally borrowed a neighbor's mower to do it ourselves.

They were great. I gave them instructions where the mower was in our shed and left it unlocked. We didn't even see him. I came home, found the receipt and note that he had winterized the mower and tuned it up but it was running well. When spring came, it fired right up on the first pull. They also gave advice about gas - try to only get enough to last you a month, as it gets stale any longer than that (they stabilized both the gas in the mower and in our can). Hope they can keep our 1994 model mower running for a long time! (yes, for the green-ies, it is a California model - low emissions, 4 cycle - I've used less than 3 gallons of gas this whole year).

Repair was done in a timely manner. They honor warranty by other dealers. They are very concentious and have lots of parts and equipment available. Sometimes they get busy so call ahead and see how it is. You might have to wait 10 mins during the busy months otherwise.

    Johnson's Lawnmower Service
Wind your way through the series of repair shops off of Nebel Street and you'll find Johnson's. This is a throwback to an earlier time, when a single owner who has dealt with hundreds, maybe thousands, of mowers, answers your questions, assesses the problem and gets to work. The price was higher than I expected, but the mower looked like new when I picked it up a week later. I recommend Johnson's, but be sure to ask about the price so there are no surprises.

They were nice, friendly, and quick. Not only did they do the tune up, but they repaired the lawn mower all within the $99 service price. Mower started up on first pull.
