Fix a flat bike tire

Bike Repair reviews in Bethesda

Aedan came to our home to inspect and repair seven family bikes which had various defects after several moves. Aedan was very punctual, knowledgeable and professional. He identified a number of defects, and repaired them. We are very happy with the bikes now, and I am relieved that the kids' bikes are safe again. This was much easier for us than hauling all the bikes to a bike repair shop. I'd recommend him highly.

I have used Biketex several times in the past few years. They are excellent and so preferable to hauling our bikes to a bike shop and dealing with cranky, obnoxious bike snobs who try to up-sell you and tell you how awful your bikes are, and look down their noses at folks who just want a bike for occasional rides to the coffee shop and/or don't want to spend a fortune on their growing kids' bikes. Pablo is great, and once, he even went to my in-laws' garage where I had left my bike after the tire blew out, replaced the tube, without me or anyone having to be there, and didn't even charge me (because he had recently patched the tube). He cares about his reputation and his customers. Another time, when I was asking for advice as to what bike to get for my growing son, another employee looked around my garage and suggested that we just lower the seat of my husband's bike, and hand that over, since my husband obviously never rides. In-home bike repair is a great idea for a business and I wish them continued success.

I took my bike in because the gears were slipping. The guys put it right on the rack, gave a few quick tweaks and fixed it right up. They could have charged me but said it was no problem. Great guys! I would definitely visit them again.

Amount spent reflects approximate dollar amount I've spent in the time I've been visiting Griffin - from repair stand to accessories, tubes, bells, etc. Every time I've visited they've always been helpful. I've dealt with Bert and Nick on most occasions and sometimes Ray. Even though I've not followed through on my larger purchases (i.e. full bikes) they've been VERY helpful and accommodating with test rides, exploring sizing and fitting and other options. They've also been very helpful when it comes to finding surprisingly rare tools (of which they sold me one of their own!), nutrition and accessories. They've also been a wealth of knowledge about cycling in general and helped with some minor adjustments on the spot. Definitely a great classic neighborhood bike shop!

I arrived with my bike at opening and quickly got changed and had my bike set up on their trainer. I started working with one young guy but ended up working with Seth who I much preferred (and who has since moved to their Bethesda location). He went through all of the basic fitting measurements and ended up adjusting my cleats, recommending insoles, a new stem, a new seatpost and saddle (and new positions for both) and repositioning of my shifters. All of this made a huge difference in ridability and comfort. Not only Seth, but Rob (mechanic) was also very friendly and helpful, truing my front wheel and wrapping my bars with new tape at no additional charge. I have since been back multiple times (EXCLUSIVELY to the Bethesda store). Seth has helped me get my fit dialed in and Rob has helped enormously to keep my bike running smoothly. Both of these guys deserve special recognition. I have, however, since had bad experiences at the Arlington store especially with the snotty young salesman who started my fit back in January ("Come and see me when you want a REAL bike..."). I wouldn't buy another thing from Arlington if not for Rob. The Bethesda store, though has become like a second home. I'd definitely recommend them even if you (like me) can't afford their higher-end offerings. The service is excellent and their nutrition and accessories are great. Not to mention the weekly rides!

I called in advance to ask about bringing my bike in for service. This was smart, since HTO has very little storage space; you have to schedule an appointment and bring the bike in the day before your appointment. This is a bike that I commute to work on. It had always had a noisy drive train, and recently had begun to shift very poorly. In other words, it was overdue for service. I brought it in the night before and dropped it off. At the time, I explained the problem to one of the mechanics and he made notes on the service ticket. He noticed that the brake pads were worn, and would need to be replaced. This meant that the repair would take longer than one day, which they explained to me. Note: Shortly after buying the bike at another shop (Bicycle Pro Shop in Georgetown) I had taken it to that same shop to mention the noise. They basically told me there was nothing they could do about it; it was just a loud bike. So, I wasn't sure what to expect from HTO. The bike was ready just a few days later. When I picked it up it was like riding a new bike. Quiet. Gears shifted very smoothly and reliably. Brakes were tight and strong. I was pleased and very pleasantly surprised. I was completely satisfied with the service. Also, the guys in the shop always seem to be having a good time and will chat with you about anything if you seem interested in your bike.

They had the bike done in a quick amount of time and the pricing was also good for the quality of work they gave me. They did a good job with fixing my bike, and I would recommend them and will use them again in the future.

The salesman was not pushy. He didn't try to sell me more bike than I needed. They were very courteous, knowledgeable and professional. The price seemed fair as well. He was very accommodating to me. He even switched the seat out at no extra cost to me! I purchased a Raleigh. I am quite pleased. Even though they are not the most conveniently located, I would return there for service or sales because of their quality of customer service.

The folks at BWB have abysmal customer service. They're surly as can be- you practically have to beg them to help you. After my husband brought his bicycle home, he realized they did a crummy job "adjusting" the brakes. They had been fine before, but after their tune-up, the brakes rubbed against the tires. He decided not to bring the bike back because he had no interest in dealing with the rude store clerks again. We also tried buying a child's helmet from this store. The store clerk couldn't even be bothered to walk over and pick up an appropriate helmet for us to see. He sat in his seat 1/2 way across the store and pointed to the pile of helmets saying,"They're over there". We definitely don't recommend this bike shop to anyone.

The first time, I was admittedly a little put out because they weren't ready with the bike when they said they would. However, they explained they were short staffed because a mechanic called in sick. Some of the store clerks are kind of young and less helpful. However, there are also some terrific and knowledgeable people there too. Just depends on who you get to help you.
