    I had to wait almost a month for an appointment, in spite of being referred by the ER (from the hospital this practice is associated with) and being in extreme pain (bedridden, unable to care for my family). Dr. Spinuzza is a nice doctor and seemed very thorough. The problem was in the follow up to this visit and the manner in which I was treated by his staff. Dr. Spinuzza ordered an MRI. This test is scheduled by his staff, who must first check with my insurance company for approval. I explained to the scheduler before leaving the office that while I do have high quality health insurance through Humana, I also have a benefit plan through my husband's job that covers 100% of medical costs, even if Humana declines to cover the test so they should go ahead and schedule it regardless of what Humana said. After one week, I had heard nothing from them about the MRI, so I called and left a message on the recorder for Dr. Spinuzza's medical assistant. The message included the fact that I was in a great deal of pain and unable stand for more than a minute. I did not receive a call back. Two days later, I called again, and left a nearly identical message. I did not receive a call back. The following day I left the same message--for the third time. Nothing. Not a peep. Two weeks after the original appointment, I finally went back to the office in person and asked to speak with the scheduler. She said that she hadn't scheduled the appointment yet because she had to call my insurance company. This is the same thing she told me at the original appointment, two weeks prior. This was on September 28th--15 days since the doctor first requested the test. On September 29th I did not hear from them, so I called late in the day for an update. I was told that they were "working on it" and that I needed to be patient because they had a stack of about 50 tests to schedule. On October 1st I called again (after not hearing anything) and was told that the test was scheduled for the 7th. When I asked why no one had called to tell me this, I was told that it was because "I just scheduled it yesterday". Because of a conflict I had to change the date of the MRI to October 13th. Between the 1st and the 13th, I had an additional injury and called Dr. Spinuzza's office to ask whether the test ordered would detect this additional problem. I wasn't surprised that no one called me back--in spite of the fact that this message included details such as "a have a strong burning sensation in my back" and "I am unable to walk properly--I have developed severe weakness in my left leg and cannot lift my foot off the ground". I had the MRI, called a friend who's an orthopedist in my hometown about two hours away. His associate saw me within a week and I already have a firm diagnosis and treatment plan. De. Spinuzza may be competent, but I cannot trust a practice that ignores a patient who is pleading for help. I was in agony, and they couldn't be bothered to return my phone call. I would not recommend this practice to anyone.
